It fits lore, considering Auridon is part of the Summerset Isles, home area of the Altmer, who are racists against all others of Nirn, especially Men.

There have always been racial tensions in Nirn. You have several quests in the game where you can enlighten those who are bigoted. There is even an Achievement you can get in the next zone you are headed to help the races get along.

So, its good that you don't like it, and the game lets you help alleviate this.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Um, racism has always been a part of the Elder Scrolls universe.

The game does not glorify Racism, it points out the stupidity of Racism, usually by making a caricature out of it (metaphorically not literally, game does not draw funny pictures).

Racism was present in Skyrim, were Dunmer were secondclass citizens in windhelm.

Racism was Present in Oblivion, were Argonians and to a lesser extent Khajiit were regarded as scum

Orcs are also frequently picked up because of their race.

It's not just in Auridon.. Every race is reciest to another or all. Several times have the Breton and the Redguard try and kill off the Orcs. The Dark Elves enslaved the argonians.. and now with the Pact being formed the Argonians are supposed to be free but they are still looked down up on by the Dark Elves. And the Race of Men, both Imperial and Nords are raciest to all Elves.

They are all Raciest. Ignoring that and only calming the Altmer are raciest only makes it look as if you didn't follow the lore.... In any of the TES games.

All three of the Aldmeri Dominions were formed on the same principle of Altmer "master race" superiority so to speak.

I'm a bit confused about the OP's discomfort. Are you uncomfortable because any kind of racism is portrayed at all in the game, or are you uncomfortable a the very idea of calling somebody racist?

If it's the former, the Veiled Heritance (and supporters) are not exactly portrayed in a positive light, and you spend a good amount of time thwarting their plans. As Rylana said above me, it's lore-appropriate, as the Altmer are notorious for placing themselves above all the other "inferior" races of Nirn. The best of them get over this prejudice when actually exposed to other races - the worst of them form supremacist groups like the Veiled Heritance. There's plenty of other 'mature' concepts portrayed in the game - racism certainly wouldn't be the most controversial.

If it's the latter, I'm not sure what the issue would be. You pretty regularly run across members of the Heritance (and non-member supporters), and they're rather willing to explain their ideology. That ideology generally includes calling Khajiit and Bosmer (and any other non-Altmer) inferior mongrels and beasts, and decrying the alliance with them. When one group of people starts calling another group of people inferior and sub-human (or sub-mer) purely due to their race.. well, that's racism.

I don't understand the comment you are making; for example are you seeing racism from players in chat? Or are you seeing (more likely) references to the racism among some Altmer towards Bosmer and Khajiit? There are a number of references and at least one quest related to the later; it's part of the story in ESO and part of the broader story in the ES franchise.

I was offended while riding around Craglorn, I'd come across the same NPC and just about every time I rode by, she would say "Wait, don't kill me!" I play a Dark Elf, so I get the subtitle racist undertone they are implying

Racism is an interesting evil that all races seem to share to some extent, which makes sense since we have racial based provinces. Given the separation of the summerset isles from mainland Tamriel it also makes sense for Altmer to be more xenophobic than other nations/races.

Altmer is far the worst of the racists.
Will say that the Dumer is far worse, at them its official policy, just smothered a bit because of the pact. Still keep Khajiit as slaves and multiple high ranked npc think that it was a mistake to free Argonians,

You also see very few of of other faction races as npc in the Ebonheart areas.
Daggerfall area is very tolerant, lots of out of faction races and they are doing well.
Dominion as an second and well behind, Ebonheart far to the bottom.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I've seen it. It's really sad. Seriously, what's the difference who is at the keyboard? It's just better not to identify your race, religion etc and not to talk religion, politics etc. It's a game. Supposed to be fun. And there's absolutely no reason at all why it can't be fun for everyone. Shouldn't care who's playing - race, male, female, kid or elderly for that matter.

Another thing, if someone ticks you off, there's no need for name calling etc. Just don't play/deal with them. Elites are light years ahead the rest of us on this. We may not care for their holier than thou attitudes but at least they don't waste their time (and everyone else's) entering into a swearing match that degrades both of them. The profanity in zone chat on fri/sat nites especially is really unattractive and dumbs down the game.

    Just my thoughts on it.

Edit: This may have been a discussion on eso racism i.e. Elf vs Nord vs Argonian, but thought I'd thow this in there, from some of what I've seen online. (oh yeah, I could share some screenshots but, you'know naming & shaming rule).

I can see how ppl new to TES universe (or not a frequent visitor) might think that racism is a wierd thing to have in a game. But it is just one of the many ways to make the world more believable. If everyone just got along, and no one had any prejudice against the other races, then there would be nothing to fight for or against ;)

What's racism got to do with it? Is it racist to point out that, say, dingos are dingos, and weasels are weasels? They're not other races—they're simply animals. Like orcs.

You have to understand... The racism isn't how you might see racism... From what I've seen in the lore, there is next to no "racism" between the races of men. racism is mainly between elves, men, and beastfolk.
