Provisioning items are also set to your level now. If you want the basic starter provisioning items, you will have to either purchase them from someone, or collect them on a low level alt.
This isn't entirely true, in VR6 stone falls, I'm still pulling things like Meal, Thin Broth and Drippings along side Mudcrab meat, Mountain Berries... etc.

Yeah it seems as though when you go to the VR zones the ingredients are zone based.

Yes and no. I find plenty of honey comb in every zone after they made a change on where it dropped. The only place it dropped before was the 5th zone in each faction plus Coldharbour.

Why does it matter so much if you get purple low-level recipes? How much actual use could you possibly ever get from them?
If it doesn't matter to you it may matter to others. Not to mention the illogic of this design simply hurts my brains. It's shoddy workmanship.

Having leveled several veteran characters, I can tell you that the purple recipes are something that you get used to. Eat it and forget it. A stack lasts a long time, and that pretty much makes up for the rarity of things like pepper and what have you.

So now that I'm leveling some new alts, I appreciate them for their utility. Sure, I'll level out of them, but once I've got them I can feed the next generation of alts, too.

So yeah, that. I haven't found any purples, but I do have some level 25 & 30 blues, and believe me, I use them. I also make tripots for those characters, too, for the same reason.

The lack of powerful food and potions made the early levels a lot harder for me than they should have been, back in the day. Now that I know better, I'm glad they're there.

    Just my 2 Septim's worth. ;-)

Wow, an answer to the question rather than just a petulant, snarky response. See, it makes some sense now.

When ur a level vr12 u can run through areas and loot every single container without blinking at any of the monsters. Ur suppose to earn the mats. U should have leveled the crafting u wanted as u leveled. AS INTENDED. or u should make a char who can EARN them for ur main.

I can't put my finger on when exactly they changed it but as I recall initially food ingredients were tied to area not level.

Recipes where based on level and faction. If you where looking for a particular recipe you had to be within about 5 levels of it and in the corresponding faction. So if you were looking for "Squeak Soup" you'd have to be within the range of 15-25 on the EP faction to find it. However once you hit the lv40+ recipes faction is no longer a issue, the recipes are the same for everybody regardless.
This is still for the most part true. There have been occasional hiccups (I was finding lv10 EP recipes on a lv30 AD char on occasion a while ago) but it's more or less working as it should.

Ingredients where also partly based on faction (you could find kwama eggs on DC side but not very frequently) but instead of being tied to character level or provisioning skill they where largely based on the level of the area you where foraging in. Quality mats like red wheat, salt, onions, ect being the exception as they could be found universally. So if you where a v1 character in Stormhaven you would still find primarily venison and milled flour.

It was a fairly intuitive way of handling things more or less. However when it came to the vet level zones things ran into a bit of a snafu. Containers were almost exclusively dropping early tier ingredients like thin broth and drippings. Forcing veteran level players back to Coldharbor anytime they needed tier 5/6 ingredients.

This prompted a change in the way in which ingredients where handled to it's current state, which although well intentioned isn't without it's own flaws. Namely players wanting to start provisioning late game being forced to either buy the needed mats or suspend playing their main to level an alt to the appropriate level range of the needed mats.

Hopefully the proposed reworking of provisioning will address those issues when it's eventually released. Unfortunately until then prospective chefs are just going to have to make due as best they can.

This isn't about the mats, this is about the recipes. On top of that they changed how the mats drop because of exactly the same complaint I'm making about the recipes.

Also I have never heard of crafting in game where you can only make things your level but you can't make things that you leveled passed. This is like saying you can only kill mobs your level but if you run to a lower zone you can no longer kill those mobs. Not just that you don't get experience, you can't even touch them.

I can make the same accusation about your remark, since you chose to belittle and demean my concern.

make lowbie: Collect mats, drop in bank, craft on high lvl char.

I had to do the same made 50 in 3 hours.

Huh? They fixed mats, you can collect any level with any level character. However, they did not fix recipe drops.

    Job half done.
