Can not validate version of patch

Since the patch for the Eu server last night whenever I launch the came it can not resolve the version I have and I have to run repair.

Just to update. For whatever reason all is well today. I have launched the game twice today and have not had to run a repair either of those two times.

Same problem here. Needs to run repair every time I launch the game.

Annoying, to say the least. I wish ZOS would stop making these stupid and unnecessary mistakes. The patching I made was from the immediately preceding version that I played last night to the most current version, same as for most everybody else. Seeing the developers fail at that simple task is discouraging.

    Hey there @snowmanflvb14_ESO,

When you open the launcher, do you receive an error message above the download bar? If so, what does the error message say? We'd be happy to assist you with this.

    I'm having the same problem.

The first time I did receive a message, something about a manifest I think, if it appears again I'll take more notice of it. No message the next time, however.

After making the repair, I still could not log in to the game. Hit an endless loading screen (>20 mins) and never got to character selection. Rebooted my computer, and the game started OK, after another forced repair. After that reboot, the repair finally stuck, and the game now runs without requiring a repair every launch.

So: problem resolved, at least for me.

Got Error 209 PatchManifestError_VersionFail when trying to run the game from the client after downloading today's EU server patch. Tried to repair through the client, while checking here for possible solutions. After the first repair attempt, I hit the same issue as stefan.gustavsonb16_ESO above me: got through to the login screen, but then got stuck at endless loading screen between that and the character selection screen. The music while on this screen kept cutting in and out, which had me suspect a possible memory leak issue - checked my resources, and my CPU was running at 100% while at this loading screen.

Aborted program, got the Error 209 message again, rebooted the computer, launched client again and received the Error 209 message yet again. Ran another repair from the client and still getting the Error 209 message, so it would appear I am not as lucky as stefan ...

Would this Error be similar to the Error 210 message referred to in the thread from last week in this section of the forums and possible to fix by flushing my DNS?

Edit: ran the client game consultant as prompted in the error message, the DxDiag found no issues.

Edit 2: After the fourth repair through the client, I am still getting the Error 209 message, but actually managed to get into the game. Weirdness.

    Hey there!

Error 209 is a separate error from 210, though they are similar. They are both related to issues with the patch manifest. Here's a link to our KB article about error 209 and some possible solutions.

If these solutions don't help, please let us know if you notice any changes in the error message and we'll be happy to continue assisting you.

    NO !

I'm also getting this yet all other patches have come in without problem, many people are having issues with this patch.

This is on your side Zos and its not up to paying customers to mess about trying to rectify your mistakes, I suggest you get it fixed within hours rather than days or weeks.

Update from me is that it's pretty flaky. Sometimes it prompts a repair, but I can close the launcher instead and relaunch it and it will no longer require a repair. Other times I can run the launcher and it's ok from the outset.

Never had a single problem with the launcher until today's EU patch.

Having the same issue, Error 209, same goes for my spouse (who runs the game from another PC). We're now running the recommended repair steps and are hoping those will resolve it.

Will keep this updated with info as we get it and, if all else fails, contact CS here.

    Update:
Resolved by using the repair function, no restart needed for me (but for my spouse it was), also had no need to remove add-ons, so overall it was smooth enough for an error.

    Hey there folks,

Thanks for the updates, it's a big help. We'd like to gather a bit of additional information for the problem to see if we can find a common factor in the 209 errors. If you're still experiencing the issue, please submit a ticket to customer support and include a game consultant file in your ticket.

Here are instructions for creating a game consultant file
Here's a quick link to the support site

Please let us know when you have submitted a ticket with this information. Also, please do not post your game consultant file publicly on the forums. The information it contains is quite a bit more in depth than a DXDiag, and while it's not particularly risky to post, your safety is preferred.

Thanks for the patience. Keep us updated and we'll be sure to do the same.

Ok, this is indeed kinda weird...

I get home, run launcher, it installs the patch fine, "Play" button shows up normally without any errors, I enter the game and play for a couple of hours without issues (besides a bit of lag - EU server here).

I decide to take a break so I normally exit the game. And then noticed I had an error message window in the launcher " 209 PatchManifestError_VersionFail".

So I just closed the launcher (don't repair or anything). Had some windows updates to do so I did those and rebooted pc after.

Tried running ESO launcher after pc rebooted and it was normal, no errors or anything and the normal "Play" button.

Did nothing and just waited and after a while the same error window I mentioned above comes up. Just closed launcher again without repairing and came here to report this.

Weird indeed... only thing that comes up to mind is that it might have something to do with the push of Update 5 to PTS servers... a guildie had issues with that, he exited game normally last night and today he ran launcher and it started downloading the PTS game without him doing anything...

    Dunno :(

    Hey there folks,

Based on the new information, we have some steps that have been successful for players running into the 209 error.

The steps below are very similar, but contain some important differences. Please go through them step by step and let us know if you're able to get beyond the 209 error.

    1. Make sure you're not running the client already when you delete the files. This will screw the process up.
    2. Go to your Zenimax Online folder: C:/ProgramFiles(x86)/Zenimax Online/
    3. Inside the Zenimax Online folder, delete the following files:

    Inside "Launcher" folder, delete "Bethesda.net_Launcher.version",
then back out of the "Launcher" folder into the Zenimax Online folder.

Inside "The Elder Scrolls Online" go to the "depot" folder, delete "depot.version" and go back to "TESO" folder.

Go to the "game" folder and delete "game_player.version", then back out to "TESO" folder.

Go to "vo_en" folder and delete "vo_en.version".

    4. The above lists all four version files that need to be deleted or renamed, under the assumption that they are named the same as the ones in my folders. Basically, look for four ".version" files if you can't find those above.
    1. Launch your client.
    2. WAIT. Wait for the client start patching like it's downloading the full game again and ABORT
    3. Go to your recycle bin, select all four files, right-click "restore".
    4. Restart your client.

If that doesn't help, keep us updated on any changes you see and we'll be sure to continue looking into it. Thanks for the additional observations as well as your patience.

    I had the same problem

    Solution:
    • Repair in ESO launcher
    • Do not start ESO
    • Make sure you got the Microsoft patches from Tuesday this week
    • Quit ESO and terminate the ESO service running program in task manager
    • Run Virus killer (99.99 pointless, but you never know.)
    • Run CCleaner. Both Regedit fix and normal.
    • Reboot

    Worked for me.

Same here. The progress bar on the update wasn't even near the end when the manifest error popped up followed by the "repair" prompt. I ignored that and just closed/re-opened the launcher and hit "play" without any problems. The game ran fine (after the slow loading screens and pause in the music that I always get on the first log in after patching).

I'm having the same problem, can not validate version of the patch. When it finally does load after repairing etc, I can not load a character most of the time, ie I'm sat on the loading screen from picking a character to load. I did not have this problem yesterday. Excellent work by the QA department............

    The error message is:-
    Error 209 - PatchManifestError_VersionFail.

Now I can't load in with any character, it just sits there on the loading screen and sometimes gives an error after a few mins but mostly just sits there without an error message and I have to close it via the task manager. I'll try the above fix but to be honest I'm REALLY not impressed. I've had no issue with my game until today.

    Edit:

    @ZOS_GaryA

After a restart it would run a complete repair instead of a partial one but the result remains the same, this is exactly the same as last weeks patch, see screenshot.

This only started last with last weeks patch so what are you doing differently Zos ?

just to note i am having a similar issue, though nothing major..
launcher remembers/recognises game's version per session, "loses" it after rebooting. Opening it again (after a reboot) gives me the update button, rather than the play one. Pressing update immediately changes the button to launch, nothing downloaded. Game then loads just fine. Exit game, re open launch, it is still on play, options wise. Reboot, re open launcher? Gives me the update again

no changes of any sort to my PC since last update, which concluded successfully. No manifest or other errors either.

When this Error 209 first appeared for me, (after the most recent EU Patch), I tried the official Fix mentioned above and also ran the repair option which seemed to resolve the error.

But today, when I started the launcher the same Error 209 message has returned.
