Memory leak and lag

Even though you guys over there at ZoS claim to have fixed this, it's still there. I start up ESO and eventually the amount of memory it's using causes FPS drops, and slower reaction times. It just keeps bleeding and bleeding until bam, crash.

You guys seriously need to address this issue in depth in stead of band-aiding it. This is the kind of issue that makes the game completely unplayable for people.

Me too. I played hours without any issues yesterday when suddenly without any reason my FPS started to drop from around 14-20 to 0-5. I had to force quit ESO cause it crashed when I tried to quit it normally. I waited 5 minutes and started again. As this atm my only solution to this problem. But this srsly needs to be fixed... -.-
I want to play it as long as I want and not have to restart it again after a few hours all the time.

I was crashing excessively before they patched the memory leak in 1.3.4. Since then I haven't crashed a single time. Sometimes memory leaks can be on your end, I would suggest checking to make sure your game is set to use your monitor's native resolution since not doing so can cause a memory leak, especially if you are using Windows 8 as that is a known problem with that OS.

I have a Logitech G-15 keyboard and it has the ability to show the CPU AND RAM usage on it's LCD screen.

This morning, while changing toons, I noticed it went to 31% RAM usage.

I have 16 GB of RAM but I don't know how much the OS itself takes up, but 31% of the remaining after the OS loads would indicate it is running right up against the 4 GB max memory limitation of the 32 bit OS.

That just might cause a few problems, eh?
Surely they could afford people who know how to make a 64 bit program.

I'm on the NA server. I was playing the game. Running around doing quests, dropping stuff off at the guild bank, etc. I already checked and my addons have no effect on whether the memory leaks or not, faster or not.

After slightly over 2 hours of gameplay, eso.exe *32 takes up 1,512,316k of memory and 9 - 10 CPU.

Definately. Zeni, you guys need to develop that 64 bit version of the game, this is getting ridiculous.

What area were you in? If I go to Stonefalls or any of the areas in the Ebonheart Pact my game eats memory like mad and I have to log out and back in constantly. My alt in the AD keeps the game around 1.5-1.8 Gigs of memory being used and the Daggerfall Cov area is usually around 1.8-2 gigs. Something about the EP areas that my game hates. I've repaired and repaired, reinstalled and sacrificed frozen chicken legs to the three and still EP hates me.

1.8 to 2 gigs for a process is not all the much ram for a game of this type.

Going x64 as was suggested will not change anything if that ram load is causing you a problem. An x32 app running inside an x64 OS can have 4 gigs of ram assigned.

Something that might be more relevant and key, do any of you have a utility to show how much Vram is being used by the GPU?

I have a Zotac GPU and a utility called 'Firestorm' is available on the manufacturers website. Other companies tend to have similar applications.

I can use Firestorm to check my GPU load and how much Video Memory is being used in real time. I see the game get up to 2.5 gigs or more on a regular basis. For me not an issue (see my sig) for anyone with 1,1.5 or 2 gigs of vram this could cause performance issues as textures are being swapped in and out of the GPU. The longer you play the more people/zone you run into the more Vram the textures fill up.

I am curious guys how much vram you each have? What texture quality are you set to?

1,5 gb is actually the normal mem usage. I know this from when we had the huge leak earlier this month, and i was monitoring memory - 1.5 is where the game started at (progressively increasing up to 3.5 where it crashed)

Also playing on EU server. I was playing about 2-3 hours perfectly fine with my Vet 2 NB in Vet Auridon. Questing, getting the area done. Travelled with wayshrine. Exploring. From one second to another my FPS dropped to 0,5-4/5. After restarting ESO it was okay/normal again.

As ArcVelari says when this happens it takes much more memory and CPU. And my laptops temperature gets higher then while normally playing.

But I do have days where Im not having any problems. So... hm.

(I don't want to mention my latest Cyrodiil experience with my guild where ESO crashed after a few minutes of lag and crash my laptop along with it. :/)

I would like it if Zenimax and all of its subsidiary's stop producing 32bit software and switch to 64bit across the board for all future endeavors.

And Improve 64bit for ESO as it will likely be a long lasting game that will likely witness the death of 32bit OS support during its lifespan.

The leak is still there. I have win 7 64bit OS I go to task amnager and highlight ESO exe file and shows 1.4 mil KB. So the problem is still there. Yes I run 16 GB of Ram.

Patch 1.2.4 ruined the game as far as memory leaks and fps crushing is concerned.

I have been running this game for about a year now and I could go into a massive 3-way siege in Cyrodiil and stay above 60 fps. After 1.2.4 I would drop below below 10. Hell last night walking around in Bang, I dropped to 8 fps. This is very much a ZOS thing. Think about it... ESO hardly has half the players it had in May, and less representation in a Cyrodiil campaign. Take Wabba for example... most people made a mass exodus to Wabba when a lot of people cancelled their subs after the first month's bugfest. If you could run this game on the same settings back then, enter a massive zerg battle and not drop your fps, it's clearly the lighting changes and other screw-ups from 1.2.4-forward.

Despite the massive complaints from people regarding this issue, you would expect them to remove those changes. Nope. They plodded forward and took almost a month for some piecemeal update that tries to regulate your fps once it dips. Yay... However the catalyst for the fps problems remains, hence the memory leaks, crashes, and lower performance for a lot of players.

Same. Playing for more than 30 mins in cyrodil eventually leads my game's animations with particle effects and char textures disappearing or corrupting and eventually auto-closing with no error.

My sub is expired already tho for other reasons including this and won't be reactivated for a while. Hopefully ZoS can actually fix this issue by the time i resub.

BTW I am NA megaserver and it only really ever happens to me in cyrodil, where any real action takes place. PVE areas and combat don't cause spell effect loss or char texture corruption.

I'm curious ... I've played in Cyrodil only a little ( to get some skyshards ) and am only level 42 ... but I've NEVER had the game crash my computer / run out of RAM etc. as is being discussed.

It seems this only happens to a few people out of the thousands who play.

So wouldn't that mean the PLAYERS have some sort of computer problem rather than that the GAME is at fault since it doesn't do this on other people's computers?

This One does not think it rational when 3 out of 1000 users experience a problem to blame the game / programmers.

I will try to remember to check the size of the eso.exe file today while playing and see what happens to mine --- if anything.

i start wondering how much ram eso should actually use; i thought 1,5 gig is normal.... at least in my computer. vram i have 2 gig so that should not be the problem. maybe someone from ZOS can answer the question?

edit: to play some pvp with large battles, i have to put all the graphics down and it is still laging as hell in between.

I just played for 2+ hours and kept Task Manager open on my 2nd monitor.
I saw memory use go as high as 1.8 GB and fluctuated as I played. Most of the time it was 1.5TB or less with surges as high as 1.8GB.

For those who are having a problem with " memory leak " I suspect their memory manager is not functioning properly or perhaps they even have some defective RAM.

During this session I fought as many as 4 NPCs at once and I leveled up and assigned skill points etc. etc. and NEVER got above 1.8 GB.

I didn't pay attention to how much CPU was being used. But right now, I am logged out to character select screen and it is idling waiting for me to return and it is using 11% CPU and 1,496.9 MB.

As much as I would < love > to blame Z's K-mart programmers, this is one thing that does not appear to be their fault.
