Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

Almost 6 Months - I thought we were supposed to be F2P by now?

Honestly, it might be that a lot of us projected what the game was going to be onto it rather than having more realistic expectations.

Certainly being slammed in face slogans like: "Play how you want" and "Epic PvP from DAoC developers" did not help forming realistic expectations!

Given the current state of the game and wow expansion a month away, it still might be.

time to push out something big to compete!

This game's competition is not WOW. This game was too far of a departure from the WOW formula for most former hardcore wow players. Some will go, but not many and not for long. Update 1.5 is looking rather sweet right now though.

I love this game, and I have always loved the ES franchise. But that doesn't mean I am blind to how subpar this game is for a SUB game. Usually a sub fee means bugs get fixed very fast, and major imbalances don't persist for 6 months. Usually. =(
Some of us are just patient, and mature enough, to take the bad with the good, put our feedback in and hope for the best. And if ZOS fails to deliver in a time we deem appropriate, we talk with our credit cards.

I'm not pointing a finger at you, but the people who complain in every thread they post to aren't fixing anything. They're just poisoning the community.

Biggest Sub Game in History is Warcraft HANDS DOWN.

For those old enough that played at release The bugs were crazy. There was even the ability to kite world bosses into Stormwind and destroy everything around it. The bugs of quests and the imbalance between classes never got fixed ever.

Even now Ice Mages are very hard to kill in Arena - Resto Druids again require super dps.

In my view this game is relatively bug free from what I would have expected. It is beautifully designed with wonderful story line arcs. What's more the 4 man Vet dungeons are the most challenging I have seen in a long time - Trials need some work agreed but they have identified that. And in 5 months we are almost up to Update 4 with an entire new Trial - and new PVE content Arena

Im tired of the people on the forums coming here and bashing the game with no regard for truth or fair comparison. Its like they know they cannot get their way and now are silly enough to think a significant portion of players actually use this forum.

What the hell is going on here ! Are pigs flying ? Did hell freeze over ? This is coming from someone who has spent the majority of his 600+ post bashing this game, talking day in and day out how glorious wow was. What you said in this paragraph contradicts so many things you have said previously. Just amazing, anyone with 600+ post spends way to much time on here, just my 2 cents. O btw still waiting your response in your other thread, you know the one, No end game = no MMO one. Where you said in a previous post that you had already unsubbed and had 2 days left, that was 9/27, it is now 10/1, was wondering what suddenly made you re sub ?

The secret world. I loved it. Bought a lifetime membership on Monday, Wednesday it went f2p. No refund, no I'm sorry, no bonus, Nothing.

This game really is good, but just needs major overhauls in places, but the company seems stuck in a rut and isn't willing to change.

There is no way ESO would go F2P in just 6 months. The possibility is even more remote due to the fact that the console versions are not out yet.

Even with the console versions released, it would be a pretty weird decision to turn the PC version to F2P, unless the other versions would go F2P too, and why would they do that while they were "fresh on the market"?

Even with falling sub numbers from the PC version, I believe they would keep the current model going for several months, especially if the console versions sell reasonably well, which they probably will.

The transition to F2P is not that very easy actually, they would need to provide a plethora of items / services through the shop, that would sell a lot and provide good (if not better) income, compared to that generated by subs, and there is little indication of this happening. On top of that, the game would have to get internal changes as well, to further support the F2P model, although those could be easier to implement with a large Patch / Update.

Looks like ESO will stick around with the sub model for quite some time still, unless they face a really big financial disaster or something, which looks unlikely (and in which case pulling the plug on it could also be the better decision).

Not that I believe this game will EVER go F2P ...... They COULD at the 7 month point cancel the console version and start their journey to getting ready for F2P which would start at 1 year 1 month......gotta take the free month into account.

That being said I don't see this happening as theres too much "around the corner". All the have to do this month or next is release info on what else is to come for this game.

This PR move will be JUST right to get enough people to consider staying that were considering leaving. This game I don't believe is in a bad position sub wise currently. Also more word of mouth for this game can go a long way, I know I have been telling people in Rift about this game so they can make a informed decision about it, not really talking it up or bad mouthing it just stating facts.

The problem with F2P business models are that they totally ruin the game play for a real MMORPG. If ESO went F2P it would be very hard to call it an Elderscroll game because the game play had to be changed so mush from any other Elderscroll game.

And who the *peep* wants this to go F2P?! You have to be really ignorant if you do.

People on this thread have a misconception about F2P really, thinking its a cursed thing which destroys MMOs and makes them die out. The truth is its a lot more complicated than that, and many MMOs that do have some form of f2p option available only have it as part of a general package, or as an example, get x amount of content [normally the original game, x amount of levels and areas sort of fair] free, and then either via in game shop, and purchasable update, or via a form of sub you need to pay for the rest of the game, like say a gold membership monthly pass to enable you to play the entire game. Its just an option really, and most often means if a game IS F2P people only get the bare bones and have to unlock vital features via a form of in game currency [which the company harvests as actual profit by the way]

To me its not a problem. Nor should it be a problem for anyone who understands this sort of thing, and is not simply reacting out of fear to unjustified negativity. F2P is simply an option. Nothing more and nothing less. And more often than not its incorporated into other models as a smaller part to a bigger picture. This is not to say specific fears have no grounds for belief. I do feel when MMOs go F2P its community suffers as you get more in the game who play it simply as something to fill a amount of time up. And I do think a community in any MMO can suffer because of specific kinds of player, who have no respect for the game they play, or the community they are playing that game around, but that is more something which needs to be addressed and policed to a certain extent, by an MMOs creators, and not an issue with the F2P model.

Bottom line for me? I would not have any real issue if ZOS started advertising ESO as F2P. I pay a monthly sub. I must point out I do not go on ESO all that often, I pay my sub to support the game, and to go a small way into helping finance future content for this game, and I pay it because I believe this game will have a huge future. The first year is not such a big deal. I believe eventually this game will be crafted into something at least remotely like the game ZOS told us it would be before its release, and am more than prepared to wait for that. IF ESO goes f2p before that time, would I cancel my sub and go F2P? No, I would not. Would I have a problem with those who do play this F2P if it went it? No, I would not, but I would like to see it that the F2P model in this game if it ever did go F2p, was a basic model which incorporated say only the first 20 levels worth of content, and that F2Pers naturally miss out on many premium features. That I feel is fair. For me, a F2P option should be more an incentive, something to draw in more potential subscribers, like a trial. F2P should be all about incentivising those who do it, to invest in a subscription. But even if its not so long as everyone who plays an MMO pays for content in one way or another, its no big deal.

I find it interesting how Wildstar everyone was hyping and giving great reviews is so dead they have to merge servers and a lot of guilds are leaving due to being unable to do the raid content.

Eso on the other end I have not heard that many news that the game is dying and unemploying developers is normal. They most likely have employed double the amount of people for the first few months to fix the game as quickly as possible and now that it is running smoother they are slowly bringing the amount of people working down to the actual number that they were planned to have.

Also either my maths is really bad or it is 6 months today.

Subs are supposed to be of higher quality than f2p games as a matter of record. Lately though it seems some developers are getting pretty cheap when putting money back into the product, (reinvesting for you stock market types).

I would normally expect some issues but with the way things are not being fully documented in what can only be a very obvious attempt at social engineering I have to conclude we are being managed, not very successfully either, and wonder what will happen first, player exodus or fixing the game.

The game is not dying. The comment you made I can not agree with, consciously or unconsciously. ESO has issues, but all of which can be dealt with in the fullness of time. As for the question on subscribers, most MMOs tend to reveal subscription numbers [those who do some form of subscription model] every 6 to 12 months. That means it could be tomorrow, or not until April 4th 2015.

SWtor wasn't dying, it was holding a steady subscription base, it's just they decided a freemium model would bring in more players.

Which it did, but it wrecked crafting in the process and drove away nearly as many players as it attracted.
