Almost 6 Months - I thought we were supposed to be F2P by now?

ESO has been out for six months and as predicted by the prognosticators and "people in the know" that ESO will be F2P within 6-months we have finally arrived at that magical date in time . . . wait. What's that? We still have a sub? Zones are loaded throughout the leveling process? Players are excited for the future of ESO? Oh . . . sorry . . . never mind!

Sorry slow ESO Forum day.

Edit: Ok so the original post was posted a month early. But it was recently necro'ed by someone at the six month mark. Enjoy its original intent.

The game still has a plethora of issues to be worked out but just enough appeal to keep me sticking around. I like the sub model.

    Maybe you're a min/maxer. Otherwise race doesn't matter a whole lot.

We may well joke about such things, but sadly I have seen a big decline of the no of players on line in my guild, I am not subbing for September, hoping game play improves for October due to an awful game play experience in the previous few weeks with PvP being virtually unplayable. I haven't given up, but need a break for a month to get over my constant frustration.

My guild has always been very positive towards ESO, but in the past 2 weeks a few people have left saying they have had enough of the bugs, and for the first time since launch, the following thread title appears in my guilds forum

    "lack of members online"

Sure there seemed to be a lot of people who obviously had tried beta for 5 mins and for some strange reason wanted the game to fail.

But in the past few weeks I have seen a lot of players who loved this game and expected it to be their home for many years, real;ly wanted the game to succeed, simply give up out of frustration due to various bugs/lag they encountered

So while there will always be moaners (and people who refuse to believe anything is really wrong with their beloved game), I do think it's a bit of a warning to Zenimax when the sort of decline I've started to see starts, then you get threads like this appearing from others who really love the game but are frustrated.

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/130273/open-letter-from-the-noore-to-zenimax-addressing-unresolved-issues-driving-players-from-the-game/

Edit, but no way would I like this game ever to be F2P

    1) How are you still posting on the forums? You need to have an active sub to post, I thought.

    2) Frell how...WHY are you still posting here? Move on.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Sadly not true for all. Most of the people on here "causing trouble" are simply doing that and actually don't play the game. It really needs to be rectified.

Don't feel bad. Your idea for posting this is hilarious. We've already seen "Is this game dead?" posts, and "Will game x kill ESO?" as well. According to the doomsayers, Cassandras, and internationally accredited experts on MMOs, we shouldn't even be here!

Maybe because he's still hoping things will get fixed. I quit playing like a week ago (sorry, Templars not getting the boosts they've been asking for so long, total domination of certain classes, PvP being a total exploitfest, heavy armour not getting the right fixes to be viable, etc.), and tbh I'm not missing it.
But I like to think it will get fixed. I actually liked the landscapes, so I have hope.

Well, if he paid a 6 month sub, and can't get a refund, maybe posting here is more fun for him than playing the game.....?

People who pretend the game is fine and ignore the large amount of bugs and class/stat imbalances.

I love this game, and I have always loved the ES franchise. But that doesn't mean I am blind to how subpar this game is for a SUB game. Usually a sub fee means bugs get fixed very fast, and major imbalances don't persist for 6 months. Usually. =(

The math fail is important too as many people did a 6 month sub. The game is sinking like a lead weight. Quieter and quieter each month. PvP is now unsustainable with imbalanced populations and many have unsubbed as a result - this will start to show later this and next month. So, yes, it's going to have to go F2P reasonably soon.

That's really not something anyone with a clue could doubt. It has nothing to do with liking or disliking the game. It's a cold, hard numbers thing.

I have to heartily disagree with that. Even in a subscription based game, bugs can and will exist for a much longer time than six months.

    Wait.

That's not what I was trying to say at all. :disagree:

What I meant to say is, I do not need to pretend the game is fine any way in order to enjoy it tremendously. Frankly, I don't care about bugs, of which I encounter fewer and fewer the older the gamed gets, if at all. Whole days go by now without me being affected by a bug, quirk, lags, or whatever. And I love the three classes I've played so far, they are great and diverse fun.

^Couldn't agree more, but you're forgetting that free month everybody gets. That means a lot of subs are due to expire in early November. When zos does do a f2p announcement, I think it will be immensely entertaining to see how many quit threads pop up from all these "loyal players."

I'd be willing to bet 500k gold that the number of subscribers that opt for the 6-month option is under 5% of the current playerbase on most any MMO ;).

Well, that's a safe bet to make. I doubt there would be many takers, because I have yet to see a company to publish numbers on sub model distribution. Numbers on active accounts, yes, but never sub model. It would be interesting to know nonetheless!

Assuming that the distribution is bell curve shaped, in between the 1, 3 and 6 month options, the 3 month would be the most common. But that just poses the further question: how probable is a bell curve distribution? :P

Biggest Sub Game in History is Warcraft HANDS DOWN.

For those old enough that played at release The bugs were crazy. There was even the ability to kite world bosses into Stormwind and destroy everything around it. The bugs of quests and the imbalance between classes never got fixed ever.

Even now Ice Mages are very hard to kill in Arena - Resto Druids again require super dps.

In my view this game is relatively bug free from what I would have expected. It is beautifully designed with wonderful story line arcs. What's more the 4 man Vet dungeons are the most challenging I have seen in a long time - Trials need some work agreed but they have identified that. And in 5 months we are almost up to Update 4 with an entire new Trial - and new PVE content Arena

Im tired of the people on the forums coming here and bashing the game with no regard for truth or fair comparison. Its like they know they cannot get their way and now are silly enough to think a significant portion of players actually use this forum.

Agree about WOW. But F2P games weren't as relevant at that time as it is now. Most F2P games during WOW's early days were children's games. Only in the late 2000's did it become a viable option for gaming companies. Also, there has been situations where going F2P increased a company's income, making it a more favorable option for a company losing money while using the P2P method.

I hope it doesn't come to that with ESO. I think this game is well-funded. There are still many issues that have been left unsolved - grouping problems, phasing - but there are also plenty of improvements being implemented. There's also been an influx of new players recently. But Vet zones are still mostly empty and Craglorn is still a grindzone.
