Do stupid player names wreck the game for you at all?

nah does not ruin the game for me, in fact I get a good chuckle out of some of those folks names, just in like in rl takes all kinds.:)

I rarely notice another players name except in zone chat. Even in PvP I hardly knew who I was fighting, the only ones I remember are the ones that cheated.

    1. If they implemented Pre Generated name, all the not so awful names would be taken up and everyone would be almost identical.
    2. When they run out of pre generated names if it's anything like other name generators we will end up with people called CherryNipple296, I'm all for Mr PeePeePants over that.
    3. And three if you think other peoples names wreck a game you need to re-evaluate your life, what happens irl when you see someone called Mr Ben Dover? I would like a reply on that one ^

Aside of being not too tight wound... I wonder myself if they are not ashamed to run around labeled like that. And sometimes its a bit immersion breaking. But not that hard that I have to go away.

Same problem often with Ship names in STO. Brrr...

My take on the matter is simple, if people chose stupid names it doesn't bother me cause they're the ones stuck with it and the embarrassment, but on the other hand I do appreciate a lot seeing a char with a lore friendly name that adds to the immersion ;)

Doesn't wreck the game, but it does annoy me--sort of dings the immersion factor a bit sometimes I guess. The funny ones don't bother me much, but some are just screaming "I've never matured past 10".

Absolutely would not group with someone using one of the cruder ones or ones touting their drunkenness or weed-smoking though--just don't have patience for that kind of stupid.

Wish guild leaders would kick people with really bad ones, just on principal.

It bothers me, but I keep playing. I'm more confused than anything else about their thought process when creating a character.

I usually take great care, knowing that whatever it is I choose... It's permanent

I generally don't care what other people call themselves. If they want to have the name lubs-to-smoosh then fine. For the most part I don't care.

They are easy enough to ignore...unless they talk. There is about a relativly decent chance that they are just as immature as their name but otherwise it can be taken as a light hearted joke. I saw a guy named Mr. Fiddleysticks who was quite a respectable RPer who was playing the guy that wanted to gain enough money for his children at home.

It seriously can't be that bad for you right? Nearly every game that allows you to choose/create your own name have these sort of people to an extent.

Why? Chances are, the guild doesn't know the character name for every member. We are allowed 8 characters.

Guild chat only has userID, not character name. Zone chat and group chat show character names.

The only names that wreck things for me are stuff like butt sack or poopjuice.

I guess if I were a 12 year old boy those would be funny. Instead they make me a bit queasy.

Who gets to define which names are stupid and which are not? Personally I found all of the bot names stupid, but they just made it easier to report them.

Some names are clever, some are from other games where the user got comfortable with a particular name, some are misspellings of common names because the common spelling has already been taken or cannot be used.

I have alts with varying degrees of names, from something simple, to descriptive ones, to silly.

As someone else also said, and personally for me, 'stupid' names are the ones that show a complete lack of imagination.

I am more impressed when someone takes time to create a unique name, whether it is silly or stupid. Those running around with Ragnock, Thane, King, Prince, or whatever else may have already been used within ES lore makes me think they have inferiority complexes, or at least a weird need to define who they are by their "hero worship" of fictitious characters.
I like players and guilds with lore names. Brings back memories. Especially the guilds with vampire house names. I want western Skyrim zone open so a guild called Volkihar can post up in Castle Volkihar, haha. hopefully stage 4 vampire becomes kill on sight as well because ESO is so lore breaking at the moment because of it.

There is nothing wrong with a Guild name that harkens to the game Lore. Or even a name that does the same. But please come up with your own name character name instead of using one from the game is all I am saying.

If you are an RP'er then use your imagination to come up with an appropriate name instead of using one that already exists in this game, or others. :)

Don't recall saying I did. I do, however, recall saying that I think that players who pick a name that is already used in the game have issues. :)

Please take the time to learn the difference between someone dictating what others can and cannot do and opinion regarding what they are doing. They are vastly different.

oh you are just personally insulting those of us who have chosen already existing names then?

Oh well okay then, that's completely different, nothing to see here.

Rp wise it's perfectly fine considering the vast gap of time between now and any of the games. This issue lies within you, not the rest of the playerbase. I find that if something is a me issue and not a them issue, I should look towards my own behavior to resolve the problem. ;)

You ask why, then explain "how" it can't be done.

Why?--because i personally don't want to be in a guild--at least a players' guild, maybe not commerce-oriented one--with anyone who thinks calling themselves "poopjuice" is funny or appropriate. Just as I wouldn't want to be around them in real life. I don't want to get in a situation where I have to talk to them, look at them, group with them, or interact with them, just as I don't like interacting with morons in my non-game life, and I'd appreciate my guild's factoring in the player's name--any of them--when considering who's allowed in.

As to how--the same way some guilds kick people acting like idiots in zone chat or doing things against the guild-leader's idea of how members should conduct themselves. It doesn't have to be pre-emptive--just kick 'em when you see the "poopjuice" alt is logged in in the list of guildies online.

My names are generally a mix of serious and light hearted, but I made a suggestion to one of my friends, our resident pothead, to name his character "High Elf Four Twenty" and he did it. The funny thing is, he's an argonian.

Some of my favorite roleplays in previous TES games were with character that I imagined as relatives of existing NPCs. I'd even mod in new dialogues to create this family connection. I wouldn't call my character Tiber Septim or anything (IIRC this kind of names are actually forbidden, so report right away if you wish), but borrowing someone's last name is fine in my book. Heck, even the whole name if it isn't someone widely famous. It's not like in our world every single person has a unique name.

Besides, we aren't all RPers. People often forget that. Learn to ignore what you dislike, folks - we're stuck sharing the server, for better or worse.

None of my toons names fit in lore-wise and likely someone may find one or two "stupid" or the sign to avoid me.... works for me! :D Just means one less person who takes the game way too serious won't bother me while I'm enjoying myself.

Sometimes silly names have a special meaning for the player, such as my NB wearing my 5 year old's nickname.

As long as it's not completely vulgar, live and let live @Cladius30 or you could always offer to pay other peoples subs so they play how you expect them to ;)
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!
