Some names are clever, some are from other games where the user got comfortable with a particular name, some are misspellings of common names because the common spelling has already been taken or cannot be used.
I have alts with varying degrees of names, from something simple, to descriptive ones, to silly.
As someone else also said, and personally for me, 'stupid' names are the ones that show a complete lack of imagination.
I am more impressed when someone takes time to create a unique name, whether it is silly or stupid. Those running around with Ragnock, Thane, King, Prince, or whatever else may have already been used within ES lore makes me think they have inferiority complexes, or at least a weird need to define who they are by their "hero worship" of fictitious characters.

There is nothing wrong with a Guild name that harkens to the game Lore. Or even a name that does the same. But please come up with your own name character name instead of using one from the game is all I am saying.
If you are an RP'er then use your imagination to come up with an appropriate name instead of using one that already exists in this game, or others.

except not all of us are RP'rs, why should how you play dictate how we play?

Don't recall saying I did. I do, however, recall saying that I think that players who pick a name that is already used in the game have issues.
Please take the time to learn the difference between someone dictating what others can and cannot do and opinion regarding what they are doing. They are vastly different.

Why? Chances are, the guild doesn't know the character name for every member. We are allowed 8 characters.
Guild chat only has userID, not character name. Zone chat and group chat show character names.
Some of my favorite roleplays in previous TES games were with character that I imagined as relatives of existing NPCs. I'd even mod in new dialogues to create this family connection. I wouldn't call my character Tiber Septim or anything (IIRC this kind of names are actually forbidden, so report right away if you wish), but borrowing someone's last name is fine in my book. Heck, even the whole name if it isn't someone widely famous. It's not like in our world every single person has a unique name.JessieColt wrote: »DagothMacellarius wrote: »YI like players and guilds with lore names. Brings back memories. I honestly think I see more stupid players names then not in this game.
Pre-release and a couple of weeks into launch, 90% of names were classy and fit in the atmosphere of ESO. The community was so much better back then. Ahhh... good memories.
