Do stupid player names wreck the game for you at all?

I honestly think I see more stupid players names then not in this game. It is sad to see, this is such a good rp game and then you see someone come along with the name Mr. Peepeepants and it just ruins the game. The only fix to this i think would be having to choose pre generated names without choice. I would be for it.

It doesn't ruin my game, but I do wonder why people choose those names over the infinite number of good names they could have gone with. I just laugh at their childishness, and move on. Chances are, I'll never see them again.

Also, if the only other option is to have per-generated names to choose from, I will never support that. I like that I can make up my own name for my character, and if that means that I have to put up with some stupid names, so be it.

I notice them, but they do not wreck the game. I am used to stupid names from other games.

The funny names make me smile. A serious situation suddenly becomes light hearted and it reminds me to have fun and enjoy myself :)

The fact that another players name "ruins" the game for you is laughable. The measure of a man is what bothers him...

No, it in no way 'ruins' the game for me. If that is all it takes to ruin the game, thats a shame lol! Are people silly and think its funny to have silly names, sure. Laugh about it, its just a game. And good grief NO to pre generated names, i wouldnt stand behind that, ever. Just, no. Besides, you say its such a good rp game, how much would it break your role playing immersion to have a pre generated name? Yeah, no lol!!

Fortunately there are no nameplates and we can close chat too. So nope, doesn't ruin the game, unless I let it.

It doesn't bother me, a lot of them make me laugh. I would rather have the freedom to make my own name. Then have to choose from a list of names

I don't really care for names like those, but, I know there is nothing I can do about it and they are free to call their character anything they want within the limits of what ZoS would consider to not be profane or offensive.

That said, it does not ruin my experience at all since I just ignore them (not literally using in game ignore, just chuckle to myself and move along). Taking away the ability to name your own character would not only remove those, but also remove all of the good, unique, fantasy driven names as well that players have come up with.

If it doesn't ruin your experience at all, and you just ignore them, why did you make this ridiculous topic in the first place?

Yes the topic is ridiculous but the person you quoted wasn't the one that made it.

I mostly find silly names fun. I have seen some outright offensive names that would violate the forum rules if I posted them here, and I must admit I have used the report feature to flag some of the most inappropriate of them. Most have been strongly racist or sexist, some in a language other than English which I have happened to understand. Names that are just silly can make me laugh, but they don't make me upset.
  • philip.ploegerb16_ESO
As long as the names aren't offensive, I usually don't care.

There are some calling themselves "Fuckermother" or similar, that I find not so funny.

I also wonder why people choose stupid or even bad names over good or funny ones, maybe because they simply are... ? ^^

Thx to Giny, Sarana, Thaili, Derra, Cherahim, Gloy, Raweelz and Drimacus, you make the game worth playing even with AoE-caps, no usefull progression past Assault / Support Rank 10, and with PvP being not even close to balanced.

Reminds me of all those people getting upset at the thought of gaudily dyed armour.

    Why isn't this a poll?

I do share this sentiment. I have seen vulgar names, misspelled variations of very foul words and extremely stupid names. I just ignore them, they ruin my immersion and when I see someone with one of those names getting handed or calling for help or making trade offers, I just ignore them. I save my time for people who display higher intelligence.

Hurts them none and makes me feel better.

Not an Infinite Number, very very large, but not infinite.

Oh, I agree with your point, a choice between a name you can say without sounding like an idiot or what some individuals went for, hmmm.

Not at all. If they're funny, I smile, if they're strange/stupid, I wonder why anyone would want such a name, but I am never annoyed. It's not my problem.

Now this, this would *** me off. You say you like RP, but you want to remove an element as important as personalized names? Freedom of choice and creating a unique character doesn't come without disadvantages, but it's a price I'm more than happy to pay. If I end up seeing someone with a controversial name or in a rainbow armor every now and then, so be it.

    Depends on the name.

Some names I avoid even if they are slightly amusing, because they indicate a certain lack of thought.

Silly names that show some thought, I'll agree with you on. Silly names that have no originality or might have been something made up by a five-year-old who giggles every time someone says the word but, not so much.

Playing EP, I do get a bit annoyed with all the Ragnar Lothbrok's running around. Counted up to 28, since early access lol. I bet AD have have loads of Bosmers wielding a bow and called something involving Legolas...

That's my definition of stupid names. When you're so bloody unintuitive and boring that you need to steal a name from a well-known fantasy character. Than add random letters, diacritic marks or numbers, because the name's already taken by like 50 other guys with the same lack of imagination.

I mean, I get it if you're 12 years old and want the same name as your hero. Than it's understandable, even cute. But this is done by adults.

I do love funny names though, especially witty argonian ones. I like silly names to, as long as they're clever.
