Any zone where you put a giant mountain/cliff range along the middle of the zone, making it possible to only cross between the two sides at certain locations.. Reapers March for example.. Boy o boy do I hate that

Playing/moving in the world, mountains and otherwise making it hard to move around in is annoying.

Graphically, they're all good. I'd probably have to pick Craglorn (general above-ground) as it just feels like an extension of Bankorai with no real terrain differences. There are a couple other zone pairs that do this, but picking Craglorn out of them because it was a major update.

Story-wise, Shadowfen kinda fell short. The Argonian quests in general get to be repetitive ("save my guar", "save the hist") and Shadowfen has the most of those.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one that HATES the zones with all the obstacles.
I love being able to point my nose towards an objective, and just look at the scenery as I bee-line towards it. Having to map out a path, like a rat in a maze just ruins it for me.

    Grahtwood is pure frustration.

  • Drjones501
Grahtwood, the lag in the capital is enough on its own, but traveling around the zone is terrible.

Stonefalls, the giant mushrooms *** me off for some reason.

I agree. It was the first zone in the game that felt oppressive and claustrophobic. The blue-gray monochrome added to that. I kept stumbling over scamps I hadn't noticed... That abstract electronic music doesn't help much, either.

The rest of the gameworld seems like a living place. Coldharbour is nothing more than a killing field. I was glad to get it over with.

Alik'r Desert and the southern half of Bangkorai. I'm not fond of a desert background to start with. Then these zones don't have enough nodes and I don't like most of the quests.

The worst zone overall, by a mile, is Grahtwood. The lines suck, the quests sucked (although working for the Thalmor sucks overall, even if it is Kate Beckinsale,) and Elden Root is the worst city in the game.

I didn't love Shadowfen, but I'd rather do any other zone in any other game than ever do Grahtwood again................horrid zone.

With that said, Rivenspire is the best zone in ESO. Amazing story, real sense of clearing the bad *** out as you progress.

    About the Thalmor...
Well, the Thalmor we have in Skyrim is the Thalmor we would have if the VH win in the AD storyline.
So they raised the floor and lowered the ceiling. Except the ceiling has spikes in it now and the floor is also lava.

This is just based on comparison of having run characters through each faction non-vet.
I don't hate any zone, but Bangkorai is the zone I like least. Why? Because if you've run characters of the same build and same level through each faction, DC has some ridiculous hard fights compared to the others.
Now I don't mind a hard fight, but there's a difference between hard+rewarding, and hard+frustrating and several of the DC battles were (for me) the wrong side of the line.
Similar builds breezed through non-vet EP and AD content (to the point where it was too easy at times, which is frustrating in a different way).

Love the game mind you, but there is a definite imbalance of difficulty between various fights in different faction quest lines.

Wow....all of you people complaining about poor cliffs and mountains realize there're ROADS there, right? Not always shown as roads, but those little yellow-ish dots on map mark paths where you can go through those "impassable" mountains without really losing much time. Just pay attention, people;) I never had any problems with cliffs aside from Coldharbour(and there it was mostly those endless abyss-es, not just cliffs) and THAT ONE DOLMEN in one of elvish zones, can't remember which. You know, the one to which you can only get through circling around half of the zone, literally? That one sucked, everything else has its ways and I kinda like the diversity in terrain.

Ironical enough, Grahtwood is my second favourite, right after Greenshade. And Elden Root is fricking amazing. It's the most uncomfortable city there is far as actually getting somewhere goes but my god, it's stunning.

I loved elvish zones, tho I really, REALLY don't like altmer. But Bosmer, while being kinda nuts, aren't that bad and I'm a big fan of those gigantic forests and forest spirits and all that stuff. They also have some gorgeous quests there, like the one in that gigantic ancient cemetary sort of thing with talking/living bones<3 And Wilderking storyline, too.

Far as hate goes...Stonefalls. Definitely Stonefalls. Grey, gloomy, barren landscape and those fricking dunmer who behave like they all as one have entered annual "dumbest NPC of the game" contest.
"Oh, an Argonian that wants to save my life? OMG no way, better death than help from this filthy slave! You! Yes, you, hero! You can save me, I graciously allow you. Well, as long as you aren't an Argonian."
"I'm just going to summon this gigantic fire spitting bone colossus(Balreth), there's ABSOLUTELY no way this could go wrong...oh ***, I can't control it, ruuuuuuuun for your life!"(totally unexpected)
"Now that brother of Strife #1 has almost killed us all, I'm going to summon Brother of Strife #2! Hell yes!"(if only here was, ah, I don't know, some sort of clue as to how that could go wrong, like someone doing this kind of thing a few days before...)
^that's basically my impression from the zone=P The only sane dunmer I remember seeing there was a ghost, death must've had a revitalizing effetc on his brains.

Yeah, Reaper's March sucked, too. AD's zones are awful.

    Auridon is bleh.
    Grahtwood is the worst.
Greenshade is OK, but not great.
    Malabar Tor is very bad.
Reaper's March is also very bad.

Cadwell's Gold wasn't a pain in the ass due to difficulty but because working for the Thalmor sucks and the AD zones are all terrible.

Bangkorai: Nothing new in the zone, and visually just looks like they combined Alik'r with Stormhaven with worse quests.

The Ebonheart Pact zones and quests are way more fun IMO. Way more versatile.

Anything in AD territory. I played them as veteran, but that's not why I dislike them. Ignoring my great distate for elves in this game and the quests that made me like them even less...

Cliffs. Cliffs everywhere. Every zone: Auridon, Greenshade, Grahtwood, Malabal Tor, Reaper's March. Cliffs right in the middle of the damn zone that I can't go over or around without having to travel across half the zone to find a useable path.

    Drives. Me. Insane.

Pretty much this sums it up for me too. I'm playing as an Altmer templar in AD, and I'm lvl 11, and I die a lot, and every time I find a boss, even the most solitary and small one, I have to call for help, because the thought that if I die I'll have to run all the way around THE WHOLE ***' REGION SIMPLY DRIVES! ME! INSANE! And did I mention I died a shipload of times thanks to my inability to judge cliff height?

On a side note, after playing Skyrim for ages, I'm really not much interested in the Rift and Eastmarch regions of the EP...

Hey why is everyone hating on Stonefalls? :) I loved it, The ash the lava, the green meadows sprinkled in ash. The Netch and Guar grazing. The small rivers. Its also the zone I spent the most time in. Since I mainly played EP back in Beta. And I still love to go back there. Lend some newbies a hand.

But what I am really annoyed at, are that most cities are so damned provincial. They are cute. Mainly in the DC area. But the only city that came across believable was Wayrest followed by Shornhelm. The Cities in Morrowind are horrible. To cookie cutter style. A bit more variety would have been nice. And I know that this is mainland Morrowind. But seriously. A bit of retro engineering of Morrowind architectural content wouldn't have hurt. Mainly when it comes to the Velothi style. Which by name must be at least a remnant of the first era. And the odd Telvanni Tower wouldn't have hurt either.

I haven't seen much of AD so far. But I was in Kenarthis Roost. Which I liked pretty well.

Also Stros M'kai was a great setting, since it resembled Redguard content pretty good.

I like Alik'r and the few sneak peeks I had from Bangkorai look promising as well. I guess I have a thing for barren landscapes. Maybe mainly because they differ from my native european stuff I am used to. I usually am pretty sick of the medieval/renaissance style portrayals in Fantasy. TES usually was kind of a relief. Not consequently. But at least Meretic content was usually different.

I loved Shadowfen. Even though I hated the crocs like the next guy. But their appearence kind of solified the plausibility of the whole Blackmarsh concept. Whereas I found the Kagouti sometimes a bit strange. They should have given them a retexture from the ones in the Morrowind zones.

So what initially was pretty disappointing, was EP zone start on Bleakrock. I played Skyrim extensively. And I got served with a mini Island of Skyrim. I was kind of sick of snow and ice. And the typical Dragonpriest ruins. Even though a bit later I had to revise my opinion. Mainly because the Island was nicely done.

Up to date I like grathwood the least. Not because of the cliffs or the woods or the weather, in my opinion that fits quite well, but because of the habitated-trees. It took me 30 min to find my way into the throne-room in elden root (which is very frustrating) and another 20 min to leave that tree again! Somehow my redguard just doesn't seem to get along with this first-level, second-level thing and the doors that hide somewhere behind a wall... the alikir was fun compared to that, despite all the undead... running with the winds and swifting through the sands. (Seems I am a little homesick ;-))

I can certainly understand the cliff issue. When you look at a map and realize that there's a huge mountain range in your way that'll take a good five minutes' ride in either direction to get past.

For me though, the worst part of Grahtwood was just how oppressive it felt being surrounded by trees. I've always been a claustrophobe though.
Also, I love how Shadowfen's crocs are so well camouflaged. Yes, it's a pain, but frig it feels real. It's like when I was playing Skyrim and a Falmer would just leap out of nowhere and scare me out of my skin. Playing caves with headphones on was certainly interesting! lol

My personal worst area, and I'm probably biased after playing it 3 times, is Glenumbra. Wayshrine in Daggerfall is the opposite end of the city to the merchants and bank, and if I see just one more ghost needing help with fixing his grave/wayward son/murderer, I'll choke a goat. They definitely overused that plot device.
