How big a threat is the coming autumn/fall games rush, to ESO?

It won't affect it in a negative way. Fall/Winter are big game buying times. It is also when people are in doors more. ESO has already been out a while meaning people looking to pick up a game will be able to buy it on a discount, plus with all the updates and the justice coming out by then it will give people more of a reason to try. I think Fall and Winter will see an influx of new and returning players.

I hope your right. Wish I had your faith.

Plus when they finally release consoles there will be another influx but that won't help us over here because we won't be playing with them.

Some may already have arranged a transferal, PC games are infinitely more mod-able true as it is, but some have social commitments they would prefer to keep. As for sales when ESO does go on console, here is hoping you're right. The games early life may have damaged those.

It hasn't. I am active on their Facebook and there is about 30 new posts a day asking about console release. People are losing their minds over it.

30 a day...I would not call that "losing their minds" In actual fact its a bit lukewarm if you ask me. Had you said 3000, or 30,000 or heck, even 300, that would be more like it. But 30 is a bit worrisome.

The facebook page is like the forums a very very very very small percent of people look at it. Your dooming and glooming over nothing. Want more numbers? FF14 is considered a huge success has released on PC,PS3, and PS4, and has around 500,000 subs. Last numbers we got where around 772,000 and that's only releasing on PC. That was also before the steam sale which saw yet another influx of players. I have seen more "Im coming back" posts in the past month vs the "I Quit" posts. This past content also another small influx and a lot of people I have seen talking are waiting for the justice system and then will be coming back. So get your panties out of that knot and quit worrying.

    1. This thread is NOT dooming and glooming. You mistake recognising obvious faults and potential threats for throwing in the towel. I am committed to this MMO much as I am another one that is much older yet I hold a similar love for the world. If this were dooming and glooming I would write ESO off, I do not, I say it has a tough road ahead, and it would be an idiot to say that is NOT true.
    2. No, I do not want numbers, I do not want you jumping on something and getting all irritable over what is NOT there. Do not be so defensive, and stop being such a fan boy, everyone else here is grown up enough not to do so, please do the same. In any case the 772.000 is a guestimate. ZOS wont release numbers until the 6 month point, or the 1 year point.

In any case. If you want to give actual numbers how many are subscribed to that facebook page, knowing that figure would shed light on if 30 is good or bad, depending on the amount of facebook subscribers there are.

Ok want facebook numbers? 1,872,286 likes not sure how thats proof of anything but there you go. The fact is the game keeps growing and getting more players with every patch. People where predicting its doom since it was announced. Quit worrying and just enjoy it. If it fails it fails nothing we can do about it. Get into the game, play it and enjoy.

1.8 million likes, with most of those being from pre-release when the hype train was at its peak. This proves nothing.

The only game I would drop ESO for, would be Fallout 4 or Fallout online.

I would be extremely excited if they announced a Fallout Online.

They already tried that, got sued and cancelled it.

Dang... I would rather have a fallout game online than an Elder scrolls game. Kind of tired of the medieval fantasy type of MMORPG. We've had nothing but that for years now (apart from wildstar, which is a pretty mediocre game). A post-apocalyptic MMO set in a universe a lot of people love would be awesome.

    It's called Fallen Earth

And no people would have said the exact same things about Fallout online that they did about ESO.

Although Star Citizen is going to be a blast, the game is on alpha stages and already blows, it is so different from the fantasy MMOs that i dont think will affect ESO much, EQN looks like is going to be main competitor of every fantasy MMO

If EQN can deliver on half the things they promise then it will be one of the best MMOs to hit the genre in the past 10 years. What MMO has ever delivered on all their promises though.

I do think EQN will be a great game and it's the only Free 2 Play MMO I have ever been excited about. I just don't think it will be as great as some people hope.

EQN will shake up the MMO Industry with new features and game mechanics, and that will be a good thing. So even if EQN fails it will still breath much needed change into the industry.

I also do not expect EQN to hit markets until at least late 2015 to early 2016. Should now more after the next SOE event. Could even be 2017

Yeah me too actually f2p is a turn off and from what ive seen in landmark beta it might be quite a bit grindy. Thats why as a sci fi lover i see much more potential in star citizen, is sand box and it has all things that people loved in eve plus other modern gaming ideas

Truth be told...They better be worried.
Aside from the wow expac coming mid nov there are serious issues still with eso and I don't mean the overpowered dk/sorc QQ crap.Fact is eso has yet to find a reliable server that doesn't drop fps from 100 plus to 15 or crashes for no reason #1.#2 the fact that they have yet to as of this post fixed the Massive memory leak causing cache overloads and art data errors shows another reason for concern. There are many other reasons for worries as they show no respect to founders or pre-order members by adding items to new purchase members that are unavailable to the previously mentioned.no big deal until you add it all up. Eso has a slogan for tech issues "call time-warner" they take no responsibility for the own faults and seek to push legitimate issues back on the player. I am not saying that WOW is a god in fact hate the game now but tbh we have all seen the return for xpac crowd, so it will affect this game. Also to any of the super-cool big boys stuck on the ZEN utter my comp is 6 core 32 gig ram running a GTX 780ti and fiber cable so the must be your comp comments can end before they start same with the I never have those issues lies...try playing with your fps up and feel free to post a vid in any main area, pvp area while engaged with a decent amount of ppl on a keep or just hanging out at davons bank that's 10 mins long with no fps drop and prove me wrong. So anyways just saying I enjoy the game but don't kid yourself with the it wont have an affect..Swotor thought the same thing about there 4 month patch to fix issues and atleast they tried before the mass exidous :)

Those FB likes are hardly an accurate indication of the current popularity of ESO. Of course it is a quite popular game, of course it has a following, of course it has many likes. A little point though: I remember very well, before launch the FB likes were something like 1,840, 000 or so. Right, so, 4 months after official release, what, ESO gained another 30k likes? A drop in the ocean it seems.

Everyone with half a brain would also know how "artificial" those "likes" can be, every company, and not only, has many ways to "buy" likes (by the ton actually).

The real numbers about everything concerning ESO, right now, only Zeni knows them, and almost everyone else just speculating. It is a successful game and will continue to be, what with the console kids jumping in, sooner or later, to boost sales and numbers.

The fact also remains that ESO, sadly, has managed to alienate quite a few people too, and does pretty little to remedy this situation.

I would like to be totally wrong in those assumptions of mine. The little "evidence" there is suggests otherwise.

It's called bugs not a memory leak do you realize how fast a massive memory leak would take down a server or client? WOW had some and in no time completely crashed the whole server in no time.

I have crashed a total of one time in pvp. If it was this "massive memory leak" it would effect everyone which its clearly not. It looks like more a problem with your computer or network connection.

    Niche game is niche.

The blockbuster of the season will be Destiny, so if anyone is buying a game this holiday season they're going to be buying Destiny. If they are in the ESO niche then they're already playing ESO or likely aren't going to see it release until next year. There's a chance ESO might make it to console before the end of the year, but I doubt it'll do well this Q4 season with a $500 million dollar "most preordered game in history" as a competitor: Destiny.

Will the competition effect ESO negatively? Not anymore than ZOS has done themselves with relaseing a buggy, incomplete, mechanically imbalanced, and notoriously unoptimized product. I'm a fan and I tell people ESO is bad and they should check back in a year when hopefully it'll be stable, feature complete, mechanically balanced, optimized, and relatively bug free. If I'm a fan and have a low opinion of the product's current quality, ZOS has done themselves no favors in expanding their fanbase.

As for subscribers dropping over the holiday season I'd say there's a safe bet you'll notice a drop in numbers unless October-November-December updates are worth logging in for...the upcoming update 4 is a bad joke (hey all that stuff we hyped at Quakecon? Yeah we're not doing any of that in update 4, enjoy!). But that's fairly independent of market competition, since ESO is servicing a niche market, and thus people will come and go from ESO's subscriber base likely just as often this Q3-Q4 season as any other season...again unless update 5-6 make the game more attractive.

@ZOS late October is a great time to add crime and murder.
