Few suggestions in an attempt to fix Impulse spam.

yes i,m all for removal of target caps. that would ideal. but i still think some decent ranged aoes are needed. normally the tradeoff between ranged and pbaoe is that pbaoe is easy cos you dont need to aim it but its short range should put you in danger cos your close to the folk you are trying to kill.

ranged is safer but then you need to target it and cant hit everything in a 360

Mobility is a large part of the issue. Half the people that die in the games current state werent even targeted, just some group ran past spamming an attack without actually having to really track a target. its an aoe issue, if pulse was nerfed they would only move on to the next aoe mobile spam.

I would look at removing mobility from such skills, and give melee inherent aoe resistance. Range single target nukers can already kite, the aoe issue needs to be neutered to all other skills and weapon choices to be viable

Removing the cap wont stop aoe from being king. Aoe should be about area denial and area pressure for healers not obliteration. Single target needs to be the primary source for killing in all engagements, groups will have to focus fire more deliberatly.

    another winner thread...
as someone in some other places said, if a bunch of unorganized idiots want to solo kill a very good, althought smaller, organized group, they will die whatever those are casting, even just light attack.

you know, impulse and every pbaoe have a close range only, so maybe, dont rush into them, even with a dk ultimate you wont last a second.
use sieges to eat their barrier, and cc them, as they hit everyone, use as much negative effects, esp. snares as you can, because purge can only remove 2, and purgers will be oom very soon.

ps. as also said, many class skills/other skills are better than impulse (fragmented shields, sap essence, liquid lighting, necrotic orb, just to name a few) changing impulse will only hurt the bads who just think that impulse spam=i win?

Here's another thing I thought of as a possible nerf to impulse-like AoE skills. As you get further away from the caster, reduce the damage based on where you are. So for example someone standing right on top of the caster takes max damage and if you're at the edge you take a significantly lower amount. This is what I see in a lot of MOBA's and it adds a high risk high reward type of play.

It should have been a Sorcerers spell only in the first place.

I kindly disagree. Single target is the primary source of killing in duels and small scale combats. Some of those already happen all over Cyrodiil and hopefully they will add something like an Arena which will allow thoses skill to be better expressed or demonstrated.

Cyrodiil is mass AvAvA. Even in medieval/ancient combat, large scale battles were dictated, well not by AoEs as such, but by attacks with no specific target. Archer's volleys would target large groups instead of individuals, shield & spear walls were not really targeting individuals again but rather providing area cover, cavalry spear charges were again a very messy affair, siege was pure AoE.

I'm all for removing target caps for AoE, but I couldn't disagree more with the assertion that single target skills should be the primary source of killing in large scale combats. That's my opinion anyway

as is your right, hower the AoE attacks you have drawn in your comparison are not an individual laying "the" volley but dozens of archers all firing a "single target projectile en masse to create a volley (Aoe).

In games you have a single person creating the effect that normally should take dozens in a cooperative effort, If we are to stick to your comparison. So it becomes inflated and without the drawbacks it takes in coordinating a large body of combatants

In principle having players all focus their single target damage at one point, is no different than the concept of a volley or a cavalry charge. Just makes it that little bit harder than running around in aoe trains
