Yes I do this to people sometimes, and if they play along who knows what will happen. I've met a lot of random people who ended up being my in game friends like this.
Just a random emote + comment, followed by a few more random emote + comment exchanges. Next thing you are in a group, then questing, then killing bosses and running dungeons with them. After this the Ring of Mara comes into play, and then....

I wrote back that I had no idea what they were talking about, and they responded with something like, "I'll have you know I've encountered all manner of unsavory folk in this town. One can never be too careful." I realized they were RP'ing, and inviting me to do the same. But darn it, I just feel so silly when I try to RP, even though on some level I think it's kind of cool. I couldn't think of anything interesting to respond back with, so I just said nothing and went about my business.1 -

Royalroacho✭✭✭Just checked, the emote color is nearly the same as the /tell color. Wouldn't be able to notice if they weren't side by side. I've never seen emotes that consisted of several gestures and sentences.

You should have taken him up on it, insisting on half payment up front, then divulged the truth at some especially intense hot and heavy moment. And recorded the entire conversation for posting somewhere. Would have been an easy - if very awkward but awesomely funny - 20k.

That does explain it, last week as my EP character reached Ebonheart, I was looting the heck out of the place. Downstairs at one of the bars there was a bunch of people standing around stock still. At first I thought they were NPC's, but as I was checking the furniture/etc. for goodies, (I always ransack towns the first time I reach them), I noticed they were various levels of VR PC's.... just standing there, nothing in /say. Didn't occur to me they may have been having a lively discussion in /group. From my point of view though it seemed odd as heck.

Hmm, where you just west of Ebonheart last night? There was some lvl 8 character following me around for a couple hours last night. Attacked whatever I attacked, sat outside of a story "conversation" instance until I left, then started following again, etc. It was actually sort of creepy. Not a single /whisper or say or group invite.
(Note: I was playing my healer character, and I don't really have control over heals so it wasn't like I could avoid healing him if I was healing myself. My *assumption* was the person was grinding mobs to level, and hanging around a higher level healer was a fairly safe and faster way of grinding than trying to kill lower level mobs on his own.)

I've had that happen before, and for the most part it doesn't bother me as long as they aren't getting in my way or being obnoxious. If a lower level player starts following me around I just do whatever I can to help them out. I've actually run off my designated path to go assist people who I've seen near death. And it can sometimes be rewarding, even if it's just a whisper saying "you're awesome, thanks" afterwards.
Not saying that everyone should do as I do, but sometimes you can make a friend or just have an entertaining experience when this kind of thing occurs.

I've had that happen before, and for the most part it doesn't bother me as long as they aren't getting in my way or being obnoxious. If a lower level player starts following me around I just do whatever I can to help them out.
The creepy part was literally sitting outside the instance waiting. I'm generally fine with it too, particularly on my healer, as doing damage isn't my strong suit.

1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
3) Difficulty slider.
4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.0 -

If someone keeps following me without asking I will run into a load of mobs or jump off somewhere and kill myself, then use a soulgem to revive.
I don't mind RP but most I've met do fit the snob description, they have their idea of what roleplaying is and anyone who has a different opinion (say I want to play the wrong race and pretend I was found in a wood and adopted, or was given an usual name that doesnt fit with their so called law), they don't want to know.Edited by Ojustaboo on August 14, 2014 7:00AM0 -
Noctisse✭✭✭Normally I try to help people near death too, however if I have the feeling someone is tailing me, I get rid of them asap. It's not really because of my paranoia, it's not only because their behaviour is just rude; it's the fact that I've seen people of lower/same lvl who were following me at a safe distance while I was fighting mobs, run and grab the chest/heavy sack I was clearing the road to.
You are a lucky person though, I too suggest you take advantage of it next time an RPer whispers you, even if it's accidental.
Soon after I started playing, I frequently came across the same people RPing at the Enchanting/Alchemy Hall in Stormhaven, but since I was too busy trying to level enchantment at that time, I never bothered trying to join them. Now that I've realised how rare accidentally finding open world RPers is (because of phasing etc), I regret it...0 -
