Am I being solicited by RPers?

I've noticed this happening about 3 times.
A little while ago, I saw someone whispered "approaches you slowly, folds her arms and says, 'Sigh. Yes? Is there something that you need help with?'".
The time previous to that, about a week ago, someone whispered "she kneels gingerly, and pets the dog."
I dont remember the first one, but it was something similar, and they didn't answer when I responded "what?".

What is this? Is this something that happens? Do they want me to play along? Maybe ill give it a shot next time...

Not that you are being solicited has much you are just a bystander. You can try to jump in but chances are you'll be ignored or get no response. Usually people rp in groups. But no reason you should not quietly enter. If it is interesting give it a try...

My responses would probably get me ignored by the snobby RP'ers and most likely reported. I have a dirty mind and I love to "play along" so to speak.

Sadly ive never been on the receiving end of this akward RP solicitation....one day perhaps...

Yeah, but are they whispering me by mistake, then? I haven't whispered anyone by the proximity interaction key, but wouldn't you have to do intentionally? I guess it could be a chat bug maybe. I don't mind it, its just one of those things that'll bug me till I understand.
*edit- said "I guess" way too many times without noticing...

    I think they're "soliciting" you.

Maybe they're usual role play buddies are offline so they're interact with people nearby to see who bites.

But if you had a dog and it was being said to be pet, that's definitely to you.

If you think it would be fun to play along go for it! Worst that'll happen is no response. Otherwise, maybe you'll find some fun in it.

I dunno, I don't have a dog, lol. Maybe it was a mistake. Next time ill just go for it. Now im trying to think about how ill respond, and for some reason its as an excessively polite british guy that periodically exclaims "indubitably!"...thats no good...

I dont much about RP'ers, I had my first experience yesterday if you can call it RP, it was fun and thats all thats actually matters for me.

Hmm, you positive it was a whisper and not an emote? It's possible someone /e pets the dog. Sometimes the different chat colors can get confusing. Whispers aren't the usual method of throwing an RP line, but could be! Play along, certainly anyone poking you is looking for a response (and perhaps thought the dog was yours, I can't really tell whose pet belongs to who myself).

And er, I know many RPers who love random RP, including myself. Don't get discouraged. :)

Which faction do you play in? I've been trying to find a good rp guild for awhile now, and while I did join one that has some potential, I'm also looking for a larger one to participate in. Alas, no luck so far.

Also, some roleplayers really need to lay off the adverbs.

Initially, thats what I thought about about the dog, but the one earlier was pretty elaborate, and its always in the same chat color as /whisper. I think RP is pretty cool, although I don't know if I could do it without being self conscious.

FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.

It seems like all the RP guilds are in AD. I suppose I should actually level up my AD char at some point.

. I think RP is pretty cool, although I don't know if I could do it without being self conscious.

That's the beauty of RP, you don't really have to be self-conscious because you aren't pretending to be yourself, but some completely different character/person.

The only time I even get a bit intimidated in RP is if the people I'm doing it with are way better writers than me. Then I just feel out of my league.

Haha yeah, but im the kind of person that cant watch movies or tv cuz i can never stop imagining whats going on behind the scenes. "How'd they make thst robot hand?", "I wonder if the writer had that insight from personal experience", "is the director or someone in the crew doing something distracting? They keep looking behind the camera with a funny expression", "I think thats fake sweat." And so on.
Ive definitely seen people having a good time with it though. Cant hurt to try it out if it happens again

As mentioned above, are you sure they are whispers? The default emote color may be the same color or a similar color to your whispers.

Sometimes there are newbie RPers that when they want to emote an action, they use "you" instead of the name of the person. So you end up thinking they are interacting with you when in fact they are interacting with each other.

    Example:
Azraeel turns to you and smiles.
Azraeel turns to Emily and smiles.

That would be my guess as well. None of the examples really make sense as random whispers.

You know, I have the SAME exact problem. It doesn't seem to affect me much in RP, though. Sometimes I get that little whisper in the back of my mind that says "none of this is real!".. but I just respond to that with "...Then I can do ANYTHING!".

Funny thing is, people like us who can't focus because of imagining all the little behind the scenes details tend to be the type with an overactive imagination. Which is perfect for roleplaying. So yeah, give it a try sometime, you may just enjoy it. The first time I ever wandered into RP back in the day I slipped in so naturally it was like I had been doing it for my whole life.

Honestly, I was enjoying thinking up reactions, and am considering trying it now.

Anecdotally, I was having dinner at a sidewalk cafe once, and a horde of larpers stormed down the street in costumes with homemade weapons and stuff. Two of them were holding something that looked like a life scale foam rubber great white shark over their heads. As my friends were making fun of them, I said to myself "Man, those guys are having like 1000 times more fun than me right now, and dont give a *** what anyone thinks".
Next time I see people doing it, ill probly be a wallflower and see what happens.

Would like to toss out a few things.

    1. Soliciting is such a... word, not really something that an actual RP'er would do.

    2. Calling RP'ers snobbish is kind of rude. As a whole, we really don't care if it's someone's first time. Most of us know to overlook grammatical and continuity errors, and will offer tips about them. The snobs, if any, are the ones that enjoy harassing the RP'ers as they do their thing, such as spamming spells around them, or spamming the chat.

    3. Color of the chat does sometimes lead to confusion. The default whisper color is a light blue, and the /emote chat is a kinda lavender color. If you're only glancing at them half a**ed, then yes, they can look the same. And as someone else pointed out, RP newbies tend to forget to use the subject's name.

    4. As others have said, just give it a try. You may just like it. Whether people think it or not, they always RP a given character. While they may not /e all the actions in a group setting, they'll consider the choices in chat, the style of combat, and so on. "Do I want this character to be a complete a**hole, and enslave an entire city? Or will I play the white knight and sacrifice a bit to save them all?" "Will I intimidate this merchant for their hard earned goods, or will I let them be, and offer them some business?"

That about sums it up. Look for me in the Ebonheart lands if you're curious about it, I lead the Ironblood Pact.

If I want to RP, I will play Call of Cthulhu at home, or Pathfinder.

For awhile I talked in third person, but no more.

Every serious RPer I've met in this game has had issues, which has completely turned me off to any rp. That and their fixation with scripted rp.

Your first example looks more like asking you if you need some help with something in game. Just a nice way to ask.

The second I'm not certain. I find the she a bit strange and especially whispering it.

I would only use an in game whisper after a /e Nidwinqq whispers something in Zlove's ear.
