Does the vanity pet really bug you?

The only reason I'd even be remotely "upset" is because closed beta testers (I mean closed beta, not stress test weekends open to virtually everyone :p ) didn't get a title or pet, and, well, I'm not that worked up anyway. In short: no.

What's funny about that, the pet monkey was exclusive to that one weekend and then they made it available to all the additional stress tests. That peeved me a bit.

My theory about that is that somebody made that promise without checking with the higher-ups, and they changed it not thinking that people would notice. It took me a long time to get over that particular broken promise. Maybe that's why I'm a critter killer... hmmm... ;-D

Can I have a Dremora companion pet, please, like in the "Leveler's Tower" addon for Skyrim? A V12 companion that will one-shot everything for me? Please? Pretty please?

It's not the vanity pet itself that bothers me, its what it represents. Zeni's willingness to disregard the founder players of ESO. The ones willing to ignore everyone else's rants about how bad the game is and still get the Imperial Edition (that would never sell again, am I right?).

Don't get me wrong though, I think steam is an excellent platform to increase the player base in ESO, I like that. But the way they're shafting the current players is distasteful and I'm not thrilled about it.

Exactly this. I now have confirmation it has gone up to the top and they are making changes. I was asked to wait a bit.

First off, with all of the promotional gimmicks out there in the industry, getting upset over others getting a vanity pet is just plain sad.

But a dog!? That's not a vanity pet, it's a mundanity pet. Now a pet dreugh, that would be a pet to get jealous over.

How a pet Watcher? That that's something to take out in the bank and get everyone nervous.

Special fluff is just one way to sell more copies on any different platform/subsystem they happen to sell it on.

I bet you when they release Xbox One/PS4 version there will be pre-order for a completely different vanity pet then too. FFXIV did the same thing when they added it to PS3, then when they added it to PS4, and people ate it up like mindless drones.

Some people will do another purchase for the silly dog, even tho its not at all that serious.

The dog will probably become a purchasable item in the near future. The only vanity pets I'd be upset about becoming available widely are the beta tester and IE pets, the ones you needed to be up-front and in-the-know to get. And by 'upset' I mean mildly annoyed, bordering on indifference.

Yeap it pisses me off actually.

Made me feel like being a loyal customer for these months instead of unsubbing after the first month was a stupid call.

Yeah! The same way that when I see Best Buy offer a sale on an item I bought months ago, I get upset that they aren't mailing me a gift certificate to make up for it. Because that's a totally reasonable reaction to a sale.

Do you send them money each month so that they keep those items always available to you? Cause im quite sure if you paid them 15$ a month to have certain items there for you and they removed one , you would be pissed also.

    Which is the case here.

Im annoyed because i have been paying all these months while they pretty much keep fixing and breaking even more crap all the time , because i did not want to lose this kind of stuff.

By doing this , zen is telling me im going to lose items they will give only to certain players that could not even be subscribed anyway.

Which means , it makes no dif to be a loyal customer or coming and going , i will lose stuff on both roads , might aswell save money instead of giving to them.

Im getting locked out of content , end of story.

This kind of pet/costumes... The kind of thing you usually get on events is something i always try to get , the second reason to me to prefer to join MMOs day one. The other being getting names.

The fact that im getting locked out of this anyway , means to me that i have 0 reason to remain subbed at all times until i finally give up playing the game for good , because i will lose the content one way or the other.

Yes , im just one sub , so zen it does not matter at all , still , they probably would have the sales even without the dog by having only the 50% sale , again , a stupid call.

It doesn't truly bug me as it's just one vanity item for promotional reasons. It sucks, and I don't really like it.. but it's not enough for me to throw any sort of fit over. The promotional item thing really isn't that uncommon, especially when it comes to an item being exclusive to a certain platform, or from a certain retailer (in this case the retailer is steam).

Many times in games, even console games, you'll get one item for owning on the xbox, one for owning on the playstation. Or you get something special for purchasing from Gamestop versus Bestbuy. Maybe they each have their own thing. Maybe you get something special for pre-ordering the item. Those things "punish" people who didn't have the money to be early adopters, or maybe didn't find out about the game until recently.. or maybe just usually shop at Gamestop.. in the same way that offering an item exclusive to steam is "punishing" people who were early adopters. Which is to say it's not, it's just a marketing incentive, same as pre-order exclusives are. It sucks that I can't get all the things in the games I play, but they're vanity things.. and I'm just not gonna rage over that.

Now, what I think they should do is veteran rewards. Subscribe for x number of months and get some vanity stuff. Some pets, maybe costumes or titles. A mix of the three.

People that whine about vanity stuff, should rethink their attitude towards gaming. It seems like they are way too much into it and this is never a good thing.

There are more important things in life than a silly virtual item and there will be many more vanity items that you wont get.

I am afraid we will see the same Drama once ZO adds a pet for those who stayed subbed or those that bought the Console version.

What I find funniest about this kind of discussion is the inability of some people to deal with diferent goals and to racionalize their subjective way of living (in this instance, playing a game) as the right one.

For instance, if someone´s goal is to get vanity pets, instead of being on the top whatever of whatever board, or even combining multiples races with factions, one goal is "stupid" and the other is amazing. Although, in the end, it´s just a game and the real goal should be whatever gives you most fun (IN MY OPINION).

Now to the question itself. I, for instance, would like to have all vanity pets possible, but does it bother me that they decided on a promotional policy that doesn´t line up with my particular goal in this part of the game structure ? nah... (In that matter, I agree with Audigy, it doesn´t seem healthy to get really bothered by it)

I understand that the game is not made for me, it does loose a bit of its appeal to me, but not enough to be bothered about.

And, In my personal and non-transferable opinion, limiting getting anything in a game is stupid (on that matter, even the initial exclusive pets, which I do have, should be avaiable is some way, IMO, that´s why I´m voting yes).

Again, in my opinion, the idea of some players being "special" is stupid to me, since being special is the most generic and ordinary feeling a human being can have. And when someone looses the ability to achieve something in a game, it makes easier to let pass on another stuff, thus, loosing the impulsive completist appeal as a goal for some players.

That said, I usually fell gratefull when I see I can´t get everything in a game, it frees me from that completionist, 100% achiever, compulsion.

Sorry for my english mistakes, it´s not my native language.

Personally I would have rather had a neutral answer to this poll.

While personally I care more about support lollygagging their feet in getting me my dwemer spider pet than this, I do say this whole mess could have been avoided and been a positive thing for ZOS if instead of handling it this way they made the dog a limited time item for current players that you could have been purchasable from a merchant for about a month or something around the date of the intial steam sale.

Even for the 4 days would have been enough.

All they did was create bad PR on the game with people now (me included) turning others from it , because after all , not many want a game that offers content only to new players on a sub based MMO.

Honestly , this one works almost every time.

Gotta say, it doesn't affect me or bother me. Not just because I'm not a fan of vanity pets as it stands, but because it doesn't harm my game play. I could care less what other vanity pets others get. I don't care about steam. I don't care what silly pixel item is offered to entice anyone here. If they also get a 1g white horse ...fine. I'm ok with that too! It simply doesn't bother me because I can't find it in my heart to feel superior over when I bought a game, how long I've played it, or any other meaningless stuff.

I think Force said it best in one of the videos he made about RUST, and early access and such. While it's not Early Access, what he says pretty much applies everywhere on the internet.

People on the net are bat *** crazy, and have a sense of "Entitlement", when they throw money into a product, and expect the world.

In my opinion like stated, the "All Races to any Faction", is way more of a treat than a silly pet.

@onlinegamer1 said it best. I'm willing to bet majority of people have their pets sitting in their bank, or mailbox. Mine are sitting on a mule character just so they won't take up space.

Have people even heard the dog? It's barking every 2 seconds while you run. I make it a goal to distance myself from that player as much as possible so I don't have to hear the stupid barking constantly.

Whether it means anything to us or not, zeni doesnt give a ***.

CS has told me to kick up a stink on forums... really?

so if we want something small and simple, and pay every month for the game (so we have access to all the content and arent restricted) why should this even have happened.... let alone why should it be up to us to kick up a fuss and moan to try get it?

zeni has ignored most forums recently, and the ones they do respond to, they give us a fake solution ( tell us to use eso in non steam game mode for example) .. so idgaf anymore.

keep slowly digging your own grave zos, its just another one of the million small things wrong with this game and its CS.
