Superdata says that Elder Scrolls Online has a subscriber base of 772,374 while WildStar is seeing "four to five times" as many concurrent users as it saw during open beta. Superdata's information is purportedly "pulled directly from publishers and developers."

What do you guys think of this number? How about the source?

    Of course it is.

Given these numbers are closely guarded secrets by any company that isn't forced to divulge them as part of the regulatory filings, do you really think some jumped-up 'analytics' company will get their hands on their data.

There is no comparison in the OP, I think you need to read it again to understand it.

Yep, no comparison but I still wonder how many people were playing WS beta since I read everywhere and also heard from some friends that people are literally begging for merges as most servers are almost empty, so if this is 4-5x as much, it still does not seem enough. Quite often they can't get 40 people together for a raid.

I don't know about the source, but the number is very good. I think it will grow with time, the game is getting better.

If they keep up the good work steadily, I'm sure the numbers will go up to some extent, but I'm sure this will always still be smaller than the copy-paste type of WoW clones that people feel more comfortable with. Also the 'raid' content is more compelling to players in the typical MMOs which might never change in ESO the way it is now.

When it comes to Wildstar, I'd rather play WoW than WS tbh :P I just can't get my head wrapped around the telegraph combat style, it feels so unnecessary even when you get used to it.

Not being able tomput up 40 people for raid is always difficult even if game has 10 mil players :-) so u cant conclude anything on basis of that fact. If eso has 750 k subs game is on safe side.

Actually, it's not from another source. Every single article stating this 'number' cites "A report published by SuperData Research", so I'd take it with a block of salt.

I mentioned that because that game is full of hate towards casuals and not-too-hardcore people and they were mocking others how that game will triumph. It might still do, of course but some servers are so empty, even 20 people raids are hard to get people for.

I don't care about amount of subscribers but if this number
will decrease then we're about to F2P. And that's it. I don't want free2play in any case.

This is tru, on eu side if you don't play hazak pvp server then don't bother rolling alts.

Pound for pound on a comparison population wise between the two, I'd say eso has it least eu side.

Consider also on wildstar there is only 2 factions and if you play dominion then you are screwed pop wise regardless of server e.u.

Eso on the other hand has three factions and I have never heard a whine about one side having pop issues over the other. Obviously you don't want to be banana or smurf tho so....

actually, in EQ the raid guilds I was in regularly summoned up 54 people. Very rarely boxes because they were mostly useless.

This is EQ< which is barely running above maintenance mode, so 40 people for a raid in WS should be cake, unless they have like 30 servers.

I thought the same when I viewed the game trailer. It really did look like Saturday morning cartoons. ESO may have it's issues, but I would say their graphics are superb.

    yes 772K * subscription =

But to be honest, I don't think you should take these numbers too seriously and wait for an official announcement.

Meanwhile, you can do something like... play the game !

Anything over 350k-400k subscribers and the game is doing awesome. Hell, I'd consider anything over 250k very successful.

Even with 250k subs it'd be $3.75 million (based on $15 / month, not counting in multi-month discounts) coming in monthly, so if the number above is accurate, that's quite a good funding. Now just wish they'd use it to improve their code a bit especially around Cyro heavy PvP ;)

With over 700k subs (if the number's accurate of course) I don't see this game going F2P, thankfully, and hope it stays that way :)

I have not played Wildstar, but I have watched some videos of the game being played. I don't see the appeal myself. And, I am not talking about the goofy cartoon graphics either.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I doubt we will get the official numbers anytime soon.

Not that it matters much. ESO is a niche game, and that's a good thing IMO. Where games like Wildstar and World of Warcraft must dumb themselves down considerably to widen their appeal to as many people as possible, Zenimax has the luxury of just making a good game the way they want to make it. As long as they have a profit coming in (which means that people are playing the game), we're on the right track.

Well, minus all the inevitable whining that comes with MMO communities.

Numbers will be released when the console versions come out if the sales are legitimately good. If not, you won't hear a peep. I love this game, but there are some things about it in its current state that need to change soon and I am surprised they haven't been fixed already. Not getting mail immediately after a purchase is pretty poor. I could go on and on, but I could also go on and on about the great things about this game. That doesn't change the fact that there are some seriously bad components to this game as well though.
