Been meaning to ask, and I guess this is as good a place as any, what actual ability or passive lets normal staff attacks regen magicka?

It's been mentioned in this thread and I've seen people talk about it in chat, but going thru my nooblet resto staff templar's skills I can't find anything that does this.

If it's been mentioned and I missed it, apologies.

Ran thru the first tier group dungeons with my healer and it was a blast, btw. Really enjoying it.

The only thing that will do that are NB siphoning strikes toggle on, spirits siphon on the target, and Gliphs of absorb magicka on your staff.

@Fleymark, not sure if you mean normal as in not-heavy or normal as in not-restro.

I've always heard, albeit unofficially, that restro staff also restores some small amount of magicka. Those with addons should be able to confirm or deny this.

Also, the Glyph, as @Pbpsy mentions above. It's generally not much, but it does add up.

I'm not entirely sure, honestly. I just keep seeing people say healers regain mana from attacks, which I assume to be auto attacks or light attacks.

Good to know about the glyph. And I hadn't thought about that with NB leeching strikes. Main is a NB archer and I was thinking I might try out a light staff build when I get to the next vet rank or the one after. Based on my early experience with the staff on the alt it sounds great.

    Good stuff. Thanks.

Resto staves restore 10% magicka upon finishing a heavy attack chain. Light attacks do not restore magicka. Failure to finish a heavy attack to a full 3(?) ticks also (I believe) fails to restore magicka.

People usually say if you're not casting, you're holding down heavy attack over and over for the magicka regen. I find I can get away with more wiggle room than that, at least so far. I haven't healed veteran dungeons or craglorn content yet, but I generally get by only doing heavies on occasion.

Hi, yesterday i was doing blessed crucible with three tanks. I was the healer.
It is a very chaotic dungeon with lots of hard hitting bosses and the fire beetles.
After we got wiped twice i received a lot of swearing from a pug member and that made me think:

Am i a bad healer? Should i never attack any mobs in a dungeon?

I am level 49 and have been a healer since level 20, so it is pretty much maxed out. I am a DK woodelf with light armor, mages stone, magica enchants on all pieces.
My magica regen is overcharged at 70, i am vamp with supernatural recovery etc.

On my bar i have rapid regeneration, combat prayer and quick siphon. (And green dragon blood and burning talons for emergencies) bar 2 is flame with pulsar etc for normal questing.

The thing is that the bosses always seem to attack me first. Especially when i open with quick siphon cast on the boss.

I have been confused because i have the pasives essence drain 2/2 en cycle of life 2/2 and do a heavy attack on bosses and ads all the time. Seemed like a good idea.

And i read that eso is different from other mmo's, mobs attack everyone, not just the tank.
In the blessed crucible last night two of them cam after me, while the other two were fighting the three tanks. Not very nice.

Any advice? Should i just open with rapid regeneration, count to 16, apply it again, and add combat prayer every 8 secs?
I think my magica regen can sustain it without using my purple restoration staff with a purple magica drain enchant on it for the heavy attack.

I know i can just go and do the dungeon again and try it out, but the results may vary, so i thought i would ask you guys and girls some advice.
    Thanks

Wasn't able to read all responses, but as a V12 Sorc healer who has successfully been the sole healer and cleared every dungeon (and Vet dungeon) in the game... here's what you will find:

In this game mechanics are HUGE. You will have people standing in red circles who die and then blame you for not keeping them up. This is not your fault and doesn't make you a bad healer. In some of the more difficult dungeons, one person not reacting properly to the mechanics can get your group behind and lead to a wipe. Again, not your fault.

Secondly, even when only healing, I pull threat all the time. It is the tanks' job to taunt, and considering you had three in your group and they couldn't keep agro off you very much seems like a failing on their part.

Thirdly, I have found that it's usually best to let the primary tank beat on the boss for a couple of seconds before you siphon. This may help you with initial pull agro. Also, coming from someone who has tried them both, the other morph is a better choice. You get a 1.5 sec cast time (sadly) but everyone hitting the target is also leeching mana. This lets you leech more mana with your resto staff heavy attacks, and lets others in the group leech mana which helps in case they need to pop a quick self heal.

Also Rapid Regen is nice, but I prefer the other morph since boss mechanics often hit hard all of a sudden, it's nice to get the instant bloom effect when your teammates drop low on health when they failed to react properly to the mechanic.

Use "Healing Springs" to keep your mana pool up. Use Healing Ward as your "o crap, tank is going down" button. Be sure to educate tanks that Healing Ward has a massive bloom effect, and if they parry for it's duration Healing Ward can generally keep them up all buy itself. Great way if you're a tank to make things easy on your healer's mana pools...

Finally, some people crutch on the Templar's single target heals so much that when they have a resto staff healer in the group, they don't realize that they need to stay fairly grouped else you tax the healer's mana too hard. If you're the healer for a group and you use a resto staff and your healing springs isn't hitting everyone in the party per cast, then the other people in the group are failing... yet again, not your fault.

Oh and as always, educate everyone you meet about the glory of parrying... some people play thinking they can dps without parrying while having agro and the healer should be able to keep them alive.... not going to happen.

    Hope this helps! :)

Good idea on educating your group.

It feels awkward doing it, but better than get the blame later. Just mix in "lol" "fyi" "haha", etc.

Until I read Tatuaje post it didn't even occur to me that the OP didn't mention having mage light on. That is a must have number one thing that should be on every healers bar!
Um, not really. The only thing about it that helps a healer is the crit, and not all heals can crit, so it depends on what heals you're using.
