I expect the ratio is surprisingly close to 1:1
It is often simply a great way to anonymously poke fun at someone or something without having to justify yourself. As has already been mentioned, using one of the positive buttons indicates agreement, which requires no further explanation. Negative responses could be for any number of reasons, which therefore should require justification/explanation in the interest of enlightened debate. Most LoLers are likely incapable of that.
LOL

I don't think so ... I click LOL when something is funny. I honestly think they need to put some kind of disagree button.

A click on LoL to say you find something funny is fine (and as it should be) a simple click of disagree isn't helping anything.
•Firstly, it doesn't promote any kind of interaction or discussion between players.
•Second, It does not give any reasoning behind why you disagree. If you put forward a factual, well worded response people will understand your reasoning, hell the OP may even agree with you and change their mind.
•Thirdly (and this is very important) the 'disagree' comment is as important to Zenimax as the original suggestion/comment. A simple 'disagree' button click would give the Devs no feedback as to why a suggestion is not wanted or liked.
This discussion/interaction between players is vital for them to gauge what we want and where to direct their efforts in future !

Rubbish, I have criticised this game, its flaws and mechanics on many of my threads. I have said repeatedly when I have not liked or agreed with something.
I have been slapped by the Mods/Admin so many times I've lost count but 'NEVER' has that been done for me voicing my dislikes of something, or my disagreement !
What? Like, for example, saying something like "I agree with you because I think you're right", or "I agree with you because that is exactly what I think, too"? Agreement tends to suggest that someone has already made the point or expressed the opinion that you would have yourself, thus removing the need for you to do so. Having a button you can click to indicate that is efficient.I still feel we should then remove all agree buttons. If you are going to have the gull to support someone or something you should be forced to justify your agreement.

Yes, blame a forum policy for making you troll.
Did you forget the option to be mature and just not say a thing.I can just troll you with the LOL button so why not?
If you have to ask why you should not be rude, someone did not raise you right.
1. Do you hate being allowed to dissent or disagree? Why should I have to "own up" if I want to show dissent? The unlike button lets me peacefully and quietly express my dissent. I don't always have much (or anything) productive to say. That doesn't mean I don't want to express dissent.
3. There is nothing immature about wanting a dislike button. I would happily "not say a thing" if I had a dislike button. I could be mature, quietly dissent and move on.
3. You are actually being rude by making assumptions about my maturity. Do you know me or something? Hi! Do you have evidence of my maturity by which to make your claim? Or is that just presupposition?

Er... no... I like using the LOL button when I find something amusing !
If someone disagrees, they should explain why or forever hold their peace. "I disagree because..." Agreeing is different because you might not have anything to add. "Enough said, I agree".
There's another stat which we do not see...
Insightful's given.
Agree's given.
Awesome's given.
LOL's given.
These stats would blacklist the spammers. Imagine one person saying, "You have more LOL's received". And the other person saying, "Yea, but you've given 5 times more LOL's than I've received". Obviously some members spam the button and pretend to speak for a larger population. Most websites cap their usage. Not sure if this is done here.

I did too, but I use awesome for that now. Anything that makes me giggle is also awesome, so it works well as a replacement for me.
Also, if I remember correctly, you get points if you receive an awesome, and you don't get points if you receive a LOL unless you got enough to get a badge. I would much rather give folks that extra reward for posting something that amused me.
