The need for "I quit" threads.

Early on, I quit my subscription and did get the e-mail. It was polite and I explained why I quit.

Once my six month subscription runs, I'll probably get another one - and I'll explain again the problems I'm having. Once they're fixed, maybe I'll keep my subscription alive.

I think it is funny that even their exit survey is apparently broken and they never noticed. Shows how much attention they were paying to that mail box :)

They have little choice, its a lame ass move but if they don`t want everyone talking about quitting its the best they have.

Well, to be fair, they are closing the threads—and a lot of good reasons for doing so have been mentioned here—not deleting them. So they are effectively not preventing anyone from reading about other people's reasons for leaving the game, merely from posting what often devolves into pointless and inappropriate responses.

It appears as though this has been blessed off as the one "quit" thread.

    Interesting.

    Greetings folks,

We closed this thread in error and have decided we’d prefer to keep it open and explain a bit more about our policy on goodbye/quitting threads. To reiterate what ZOS_CarolusS said earlier, we close goodbye/quitting threads as they typically gather responses that are flaming or nonconstructive. That being said, the reason we close these types of threads rather than removing them entirely is because the feedback provided in them is very valuable to us. Knowing why players leave our game is extremely helpful for our development team as they plan future content updates and changes.

To address another concern presented in this thread, we are very interested in reading feedback on the forums, regardless of how positive or negative it is. That being said, we do expect feedback to be provided in a constructive way and for players to abide by our Community Code of Conduct when posting to the forums.

    Thank you!

Whats funny is u closed my thread simply asking who has unsubbed so far... there was no flaming bashing or trolling what so ever in the thread and it didnt violate any rules for ur code of conduct and its wasnt a goodbye. quitting thread but here in this response u say go ahead and do it lol... i dont get it o.O

All players who decide to unsubscribe should be receiving a survey requesting more information about why they left.

    I didnt get the survey.
Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

You won't receive the survey as soon as you cancel your subscription, but rather once your remaining subscription time runs out.

This doesn't make sense to me. If someone cancels their sub making it clear that they intend to leave wouldn't it be beneficial to know their reasons before they've actually left. Maybe you could do something before their sub expires to retain them as a customer.

Not everyone who plays reads these forums or knows what issues are being worked on so if someone cancelled because of issue X but X was due for a fix soon you'd be able to tell them and maybe they'd stay. Your current system they'd be gone and probably for good.

Totally bad pr here. If you want to retain customers you need to know what customer objections are. Being proactive rather than reactive is a far better marketing methodology.

It seems ZOS is making every new MMO developer mistake.

Me for instance, quit because of how totally lacking in fun veteran levels and the lack of good QA in patches in my opinion. Bought a three month subscription that has not yet run out, yet were it not for a friend telling me to check out the forums I would not know about the VR adjustment today. I may check out if the VR content now can be called fun, or is still too tedious for enjoyment.

If it were not for this friend, I would not know about the changes, and ZOS would not have the chance to draw me back in. It would be in your interest to get a survey of customer subscription terminations for the purpose of marketing to those people. I know I am far from the only person to unsub due to veteran rank content difficulty curve, how many of those people are you failing to retain because you do not know who they are? Especially ones who still have an active sub who are the most likely to give you another chance, since it doesn't cost them anything.

The road you are on will take a significantly higher investment on the part of ZOS, in terms of free weekends etc. to recapture lost subscribers. You should pick the low hanging fruit, before it isn't low hanging anymore.

Okay, that makes sense. Could be some changes in patches prior to game time running out, and so you'd want the survey to accurately reflect experience in the latest version.

"I Quit" threads exist because the person posting it cares. They're most likely disappointed that they felt quitting necessary, and didn't want to quit, but their healthy self respect wouldn't allow them to continue paying for a product with this many issues.

..At least, that's why I'd start one. ;)

Then you are discounting the value of the answers to the questions why is this game hemorrhaging subscribers? My whole guild and I left this game for a reason. Not wanting to know those reasons are asking for the game to fail, as is waiting until the subscriber is all the way out the door to inquire why they are leaving.

Have I ever read anything constructive, insightful or of any value to the community in an "I Quit Thread"?

    Absolutely.

I've read many constructive cancelling sub threads that provide a wealth of useful feedback devs would find valuable.

You can't write them all off because of a few trolls venting.

No, it makes no sense to get their reasoning at that point for a few reasons:

    1. They might still be playing.
    2. They might intend to resubscribe before their time runs out (pre-paid credit card, etc.)
    3. The game will change between the time they cancel their subscription and the end of their game time. Their feedback needs to be on the current state of the game, not on how they project the game to be in however many weeks it is until their time runs out.

Not that I doubt you, but people with inactive accounts aren't allowed to post on this forum...

As someone who has already cancelled their account, I agree 100% with ZOS on this.

They dont need to have a dedicated I quit forum, the company already knows that you cancelled your account. That's all that needs to be said. If you want to provide feedback about the game, just do it.

^ This. I'm sorry but "venting" to the public about your dislike of a thing only ends up being a giant flaming thread of "L2P Noob" or "Can I haz ur stuffs" or "Good we didn't want you here anyway" kind of useless banter. These type of threads aren't needed in any way as ZoS is well aware of the issues facing the game as they are told of them over and over and over and over every single day, one more time won't all the sudden convince them that NOW they need to do something about it. They are working on the problems as fast as they can, else they'd be out of jobs.

It's in their rules that they don't allow "I quit" threads, and that's all you need to know as everyone here agreed to those rules when they signed up.

The survey should arrive within 48-72 hours of your game time expiring.

There can sometimes be a short delay between when game time expires and when forum access is disabled.

Thank you. Was only out of interest. I actually have 2 unused time codes worth I think 120 days? Just not applying them yet, and in debate as to if I will and not just give them out.
