RIght now the AMD 290 is probably the best price to performance card out there. I will say though going from my 580 gtx to the r290 I get odd clipping issues in Eso - the the whole screen jumps at odd times.

I was an AMD guy back at the slot one days and a radeon guy way back at the 9700 pro. But now they seem to be sort of cut rate compared to intel/nvidia so I stay away.

    Hello everyone,

I wouldn't put a bold statement like that as the title if I didn't have cold hard evidence to back it. While most posters have been blaming zenimax for fps issues I took upon myself to identify the problem myself. I found it strange that some people complained and some people said that their fps was fine, so after several hours I have found a solution to the problem. If you use NVIDIA this will most likely work for you. First I downloaded the latest patch, however it is still in beta its working great for me. Driver 340.43 for NVidia drivers(Beta) is the latest and it does specify to work with elder scrolls online. I also have been running the game in Window mode(Just for safe measure) because I read on several forums of IT guys saying NVidia wasn't using the video card to its max because it wasn't recognizing ESO running. So try it, tweak it and hopefully like me (560ti) you will be up in running in Wabbajack instead of Wabbalag.

    Which IT forums are these?

Mate just want to say a huge thanks for putting this up and helping with the FPS issue, well done.

The beta drivers dropped my PvE frames ever so slightly. Played around with it for over an hour. Reverted back to 337.88 :|

More of a workaround than a fix. But kudos, will give it a try.

    LOL

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and graphics drivers causing issues with games.

Of course its a fix you ninny

You start 60 fps, you end at 2.5 fps. You leave the battle you stay at 2.5 fps. You relog and are back to 60 fps.

There are no drivers for any graphics cards that will fix this issue.

I have a 770GTX and have been getting FPS drops since last patch @Madval. I think there is more to it than just the GPU...

Anyhow, for PvE frames drop I tried what the author in this thread (FOr those having delay/FPS issues in PVE zones) suggested and it worked!

I'm positive the Nvidia Titan is the best video card there is.

Wait, that link you gave says the best card is the Titan. WTF?

Nvidia 780ti is fastest single core gfx card, considering getting one myself.
  • mad.ferretb16_ESO
I actually had a problem that it kept putting me in the wrong resolution, (possibly because I use my TV, not a monitor?) I selected the various modes then put it back to fullscreen and I now have 60fps with a gtx 660.

Also had a problem with the built in intel 4000 which stopped working properly (resolution wise) in fullscreen.

So maybe there's some problem with the video settings screen.

I haven't installed the beta drivers. I have the release previous.

I've installed the 340.43 drivers and also added the game to the program list for NVidia 3D settings as Nickers suggested. While my fps is not what it was before the patch, it seems to be holding mostly steady at 50-60 and sometimes dropping to 25ish...but certainly not 2 FPS as it was before.

    Thanks for the info folks!

I have AMD could be why I didn't have problems.

That's because AMD problems are normal, so they aren't consider problems. Users are just used to bad performance in the AMD world lol

I use AMD GPU´s since about 8 years now, never had any problems and the games run smoother than on Nvidia. ;)

You fall for the same propaganda like other Nvidia users who constantly believe that their cards are better because they cost about 30-40% more.

Maybe its news for you, but the amount of money does not define how good hardware is with the exception of CPU´s where AMD is indeed worse. If it comes to GPU´s AMD and Nvidia are on the same level, just that AMD delivers the same power for less money in a more stable environment.

The reason why Nvidia patches almost every month is the driver incompatibility that they have. There wasn't a game where Nvidia gamers did not complain about low FPS, crashes or blue screens in the past 5 years or so.

Nevertheless is Nvidia a viable supplier for video cards if you can wait for the bugs to be fixed or want shadowplay and PhysX. That they are better than AMD however is a lie, especially if we compare the price structure where you get an AMD card with equal power for 150 where as Nvidia starts at 200 bucks for the same power.

You provide two links after claiming "all experts"? Seems legit.

I had ATI/AMD and Nvidia cards and never had any issue with them. So maybe open your green eyes... (I have Nvidia card now fyi)

I never had any issue with drivers either.

Or you could keep existing drivers and just add the eso.exe to the application list under the NVIDIA control panel>Manage 3d settings>Program Settings>Add

I tried this, and also going back to "Fullscreen (Windowed)".

It... helped.... a little. Instead of INSTANT FPS=2 the nanosecond I get near anyone in PvP, I was able to have ~25 FPS for approximately 10-15 minutes before FPS dropped to 2.

Installed the beta drivers tonight, it seems to be working for me. lowest I've had FPS drop to was 28-30, which was standard for me in large battles before the FPS issue; and everywhere else goes back to 60 as soon as I get away from the combat.

Compared to yesterday where I was routinely dropping down to 15-18 FPS with horrible stuttering, after which I couldn't get back above 30 w/o relogging.

Then again, the drivers I was using before were 1 yr old, so that might have something to do with it.

fyi as a Nvidia user... beta drivers work fine for me, I update them as they release.. I rarely ever have an in-game hiccup unless servers are stuttering. I also am on a pure Fiber Optic connection.

Understood. So people make note of that. However running Eso in window mode seems to let the card know that the game is running. In full screen I watch my gpu usage plummet. I know it sounds crazy but it is working great for me and I wanted to share.

This doesn't make sense. "Let the card know that the game is running." What does that even mean?

I have a GeForce GTX 780 Ti, and Yes I have horrid fps issues... I have the latest drivers... I don't do Beta drivers...

I am slightly better off than some of the people I play with, the lowest my fps has gone is down to 15 fps... while some of the people I play with go down to 5fps...

So OP's "fix" was to download the latest drivers?

This doesn't count as "tracking down the issue yourself". You never even identified the issue. All you did was the most basic step towards addressing the problem and you are claiming "FIXED".

BTW, reading "IT" forums are the most sure fire way to screw up your machine. Everyone knows that IT it just a dumbed down subset of comp sci for people who were too stupid or too lazy to actually learn the entire discipline.

I tested the beta drivers and i always play ESO in windowed mode, but the fps drop still hits me like a truck.

I read that enabling VSync and switching display modes would flush the memory which would get rid of the bad fps for a couple of minutes, so you don't have to relog. i wish it would work for me, but it doesn't. Still, i would recommend you to give it a try.

If you play in windowed mode, the switching from windowed to windowed (fullscreen) takes less than a second, so if it works for you, you have a quick workaround hack for your fps issues.

Maybe some team member could answer this:

Isn't there a secret chat command available that just flushes the memory? Skyrim had something like that. This would be a huge help for everyone.

This "fix" made no difference what so ever. It doesn't work at all for me.

Still getting sudden drops to 2-3 fps in PvP. Only think that works is restarting the client and than you have normal fps again, but only for a few minutes. Still getting frozen screen and client not responding for a couple of seconds, than find myself dead.

Not that I expected something this easy (just download a driver and keep playing in window mode), to actually sort out the problem lol. I don't think any quick miracle fixes from home will fix Eso performance. But I'm also desperate enough to try anything

I saw this issue twice last night. Once at the end of a group dungeon, and then after teleporting back to Wayrest. From what I saw, it's a loading problem.
