I made my high elf have the lightest blonde hair but later on after noticing lag and what not I used the ESO slider to change the graphics to low and then I moved up some other individual settings to medium or high. I've heard there were hidden settings in the ESO slider.
So when I did that, my armor lost all shine and my characters hair turned unshiny brown. Similarly my white hair dark elf's hair turned muddy, unshiny, and tan. Shiny black hair on my breton became a void of darkness.
When I changed the settings back (slider to high or something and then modified the individual settings) all the shine came back and my characters hair colors were back to normal.

✭My character's hairstyle changed after the 1.1 Craglorn patch. I made a thread, @ZOS_JessicaFolsom responded to it, but nothing came of it.
We'll just have to wait for a barber/face sculptor, whenever that will be added (at the earliest it will be update 4, since it wasn't even on the last road ahead, but probably not).1 -

No direct changes to graphics settings. As you say tho maybe it was changed for me by an update or something. Still haven't figured this one out and tried everything I could think of. I've never manually changed my graphics settings, just switched low, medium, high etc. And then switched back to test for any changes. I agree with the others - the new style looks a lot better.
I do notice some differences if I am wearing particular costumes or armour (for example, a) facial tattoos missing, b) eye patch missing & dead eye exposed).0 -

✭✭✭✭✭The specular lighting has changed a lot of things. If those are the same backgrounds, look at the lights on the wall. In the first pic its muddy and dark. The second pic there is refraction and reflection with the specular light map on the armor.
I think its just seriously more light is hitting the pixels on your head, causing you to see the real "color" of reflected light.
Strange that a patch would make so much difference in graphics, most likely it was a driver update as well or something, because that is going from low to high.Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.1 -
