Maintenance for the week of December 29:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – December 29

AAAAaaaarggggh! I want this game to survive so bad. SO BAD.

williamburr2001b14_ESO
Pedigree: muds to ultima to wow to etc. yes done it, plenty of it, who cares.

I was explaining this to my wife on our walk today, and what's here, and what I would definitely like to see preserved is the FEEL of the game. You pull your two-hander back, and then it swings, and it hits an enemy, and there's a WHOMP. I just feels right. Same with an uppercut. Same with a sorceror bomb spell, same with a Templar jab. The graphic hits, the sound hits, right in line with what's happening, and that's a very rare thing for even a console-triple-AAA game, let alone a PC MMO. A great job was done, and continues to be done, with the feeling of in-game physics.

Current dissastisfactions: I've played Templar and Sorc. I have a V12 (that exploited the hell out of Craglorn, in the interest of full-disclosure). Templar is GARBAGE and Sorceror is FUN AS HELL. I really do believe that the gulf between early DK/Sorc and early NB/Temp has informed most players' opinions on what the game is like. Everybody loved it to level 50. When VR hit is when people starting hitting walls, and thus got frustrated, and thus either quit or hit the forums.

We earn points and badges here...is this the meta-meta-game?

The only problem i have is that with every patch the fix 1 thing and destroy 2-3 others. Other than that i love the game, waited for it 2 years and i ll keep supporting it for as long as i can.

I agree VR is a tedious grind. But the templar might not have the same amount of offense as the sorcerer but I have met templars who use shields and reflect that is just a nightmare to deal with.

I completely agree with everything you stated. The class imbalances and broken passives play a huge roll in how opinions are formed for this game. As a Nightblade, I could stomach the occasional quest bug, CTD, etc. That is par for a newly released MMO. What I could not handle was the broken class and the feeling that the player base was not being heard about the issues with classes.

I will not get into that since it has been beat up pretty severely on the forums. I just want you to know that I too want this game to work, to be successful and of course survive.

I know that you mean well but this type of statement is not helpful. Advice should not be to leave. Advice should be stick with it, its getting better and then list what facts about improvements you have.

3 is the number of comments I see, and the number of comments I will respond to is 3:

#1: I'm right there with you in patches. Very little of the patch attention has fixed what was and is wrong with ME. I am pretty pissed about that.

#2: "It's new," I gotta say, is not a very good comb-over for a game-genre whos lifetime in 2014 is measured in months.

#3: VR is a tedious grind. The bad Sorcs and the bad DKs and all the Templars and Nightblades can agree on this. When this hits the level of something we can all agree on, hopefully we can get it fixed.

Every character can reach VR12 in 2 days playtime. It has nothing to do with skill as you just need a farming group of 2 people from 1-50 and then 4 people for grinding vr1-12.

    Its just very boring.

I agree with this one , the dif is that by breaking the addons , they destroyed more than ever before. The sheer amount of incompetence the eso dev team manages to display is off the charts.

My friend came to tell me he finally is going to change his PC , i told him i got many game packs for us to play on steam sale and that he should avoid ESO like the plague.

Honestly, as much negative stuff as I can say about this game and how disgruntled I have been.....I do hope it pulls through.

As others have said, I have tipped my hat to ESO for now, keeping a keen eye on the patch notes and the forums, but honestly I don't expect to come back to swing that two hander in any less than 6 months to a year from now. They have a long way to go before I can justify renewing my subscription.

    Quidd (VR5) Nightblade

All things told, I've decided after a 2 month hiatus to give ESO another chance. I only got to VR1 and I called it quits because I had no intention of doing the VR content.

The reason Ive decided to come back is because I look at EQ2, and what happened to SWG. I hated EQ2 when it first came out, its was pretty complex, couldnt do anything without a group. It seemed like I would just log on, kill 200 wasps or something for an hour, watch my EXP bar move a bit and log out. I quit the game for a couple of years and came back, and wow suddenly everything was soloable. They give so much power to an individual, any content below lvl 80 is trivial, even the outdated 12 man raid content can be soloed if you have the right build. I played it for about 6 months, then I started to miss the old EQ2, the one I hated. It woulda been fun to go back to the way it was, struggle and try to find groups, grind hard, see this stuff that Im killing in less than a minute while I eat a samidge be powerful again. But that's not to be.

As for SWG, this game despite negative reviews was amazing for me. The depth in the crafting system and sandbox elements was awe inspiring. The combat was largely trivial, and most things could be soloed by most players, but nobody could ever claim to have mastered that game. Im still very interested in the EMU, because our hearts got ripped out. The game was changed massively and the plug eventually got pulled. Even in its last iteration, which was quite infantile, I'd probably still want to go back and play it now if it were possible.

Okay, so what does all this have to do with ESO. One day, maybe even as little as a year, the game may change drastically, many players may say "hey remember when ESO was fun?" It seems ridiculous to say so now, but we dont know what changes ESO has in store for us. We dont know how things will look through the rose colored glasses. You truly dont know what you have, until you cant have it no more.

So that may be a poor reason for most to continue to give ESO a chance, but time will tell.

I hit a wall in ESO, and like a great big Traitor, I started playing WildStar. It's amazing, because every MMO is amazing if you're under level 10. It's like being a baby again--you get soft food-stuff shoved in your face forever and ever.

I hate it. I hate hate hate hate it, and I knew I would. Its cartoony style is the worst kind of turn-off. People used to complain about Warcraft's cartoony style. Warcraft went with it, probably because of Pokemon, and is still successful. But I still hate it. WildStar embraces that aesthetic and runs with it.

But at the same time, It's FUN to PLAY. The gameplay itself, the act of bashing down groups of monsters that need bashing down, is so much more viscerally satisfying than the..(I actually literally, physically shuddered a little) VR 3-group experience.

Wow went with the graphics style it did because it matches the graphics style of the RTS games.

They even have the original peasant and peon models walking around with the old soundtrack sounds in some spots. Its a hit of nostalgia.

The annoying pet battles use the old RTS battle music too.

Now I have Drhms of War stuck in my head.

Care to make a wager on that? Going F2P before console release wouldn't be a wise business move.

Actually it would be a very smart business move. It would negate the need for subs and would allow for the creation of a in game store where people could by items with money. Microtransactions are huge on XBox One and XBox 360. They have items already in game that could be purchased through a store.

This is not me saying I want the game to go F2P, its me saying that they could definitely capitalize on profits through microtransactions on consoles because people already make those types of purchases.

    2.4 million an hr eh?

Lets say you kill a 3 pack every 15 seconds, that's a fairly quick pace. Lets say for sake of argument that each gives 300 exp, round up to 1000 total for simplicity.

    (2,400,000 exp / 1000 exp) * 15 seconds = 36,000 seconds

That's 600 minutes or 10 hours to get 2.4 million.

To get 2.4 million per hour you would have to kill a 3 pack every 1.5 seconds.

The only reason I have been so active here (particularly in threads regarding VR content) is because I want this game to succeed. Very much so. I see tremendous potential in ESO. There are many things about it that are the best I have ever seen in 20 years of gaming MMOs.

But too many people are leaving. And I agree with most of the reasons they are leaving.

Agreed. I left for two weeks rather than rage quit or hang around the forums arguing. It was very healthy and now I'm hoping the game is even better after the last patch.

    Except, you kill a 20 pack and a Boss worth 35+ K each pull; In Craglorn AoE Boss farming. {Just an example, not a totally accurate number, just an approximation}

Depending on the Bala run, and your level you can make 10-20% a run.

Don't worry the game will continue, and ZoS will continue improving it and bringing out new content (not just for VR either). But all of this takes time. It seems in today's society everyone wants everything RIGHT MEOW! Unfortunately the real world doesn't work the way their fantasy world (in their head) does. ZoS has a VERY long term plan for the game, years in fact, so no worries.

many of the things ZOS are attempting to improve via their "long term plans" should have been there to start with..

both missing guilds, Tons of balance issues...

The issues with Magicka builds being so much better than any other build alone is making Gameplay really boring since the only good builds are the ones that wear robes still..
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.
