My understanding is that the settings and saved data is really stored in the same place, so it sounds like everything...
I'm going to back up my SavedVariables folder just in case.
I lost all my harvest data. Not a single node pin to be found.
I understand add-ons displaying error messages, and the whole bit about the API. Yes, it is up to the creator to ensure the add-on works. Erasing all the settings and data however is complete BS. I blame Zenimax 100% for that.
Edit:
Should I have backed up my data? Yea i really should have. I didn't though, and I don't think it was unreasonable of me to expect that they save my settings. But I guess this is how they are gonna play ball so for the future I will save before every patch.
No. You didn't backup your addons.
Your failure.
Stop blaming everyone else.
Thanks Captain Hindsight. Already stated I should have done that. Doesn't change the fact that the data should not have been erased. All the other patches were fine. Why not this one?
Zenimax erased the data. That is their failure. I didn't do it.
Should I have backed up my stuff? Yes.
Should they have erased it all? No
And we are supposed to psychically know to back up our data?trucqulent wrote: »Chatoyancy wrote: »I'm still downloading the patch -- is it just settings wiped out, or is it the saved data too? I would be really sad to lose my HarvestMap and Quest Journal data.

I'm always curious when addons massively break like this precisely why the developer thought it neccessary to change the api(s) that broke.
Presumably somebody/where was using the apis to do something the developers thought was exploitive... but what?
When you change an API, you *know* it's going to break things. So either they had no choice because it was allowing some sort of explotive behavior, or the developers are just being jerks.

Yes - Sorry about that; I was a bit unhinged - I went back and changed it. But I did not know that you needed to backup the data generated from add-ons and that patched would erase it without warning. Its not common knowledge for everyone. Add-ons not working ... fine .. probably; erasing data without warning. Only thing I was using was librarian - and I wanted to go back and read the stuff at my convenience - and lore is one of the reasons I play this game. This might be what causes me not to renew. And we are supposed to psychically know to back up our data?trucqulent wrote: »Chatoyancy wrote: »I'm still downloading the patch -- is it just settings wiped out, or is it the saved data too? What does the "FU" mean? Is it vulgar? Are you masking which is against the rules of the forum? I am just asking questions because I am confused about what you mean.
I will add that no game company that allows use of addons has EVER been "responsible" for any issues with addons. If you use addons, there are several commonly known things you can do to make life easier.

I was kind of surprised to see that my settings had been reset for the addons, considering most of that information is saved in the individual addon's Saved Variables lua files and separate from ZO files.
Not sure it's happened to everyone, but . . .
Settings used to be saved under your @username in SavedVariables. They appear to be saved under "" now.
So . . . open all your savedvariable files, find "@Name" near the beginning and replace it with "" and you should be all set.

So I know that with each update the game recognizes the add-ons as being out of date. But mine completely reset everything, and is giving persistent UI errors that I cannot get rid of.
Having to completely redo my UI, and then go and try and troubleshoot which add-ons are causing problems is a real PITA. Anyone know any quicker way to do this?
Aaaaaand this is why I still think add-ons are a hack, and many features that you can currently get only from add-ons should be added to the game.
(not meant as an attack on add-on developers, they're doing a great job at addressing many shortcomings in the game's UI)

I'm also an addon addict. Started fiddling with editing lua files from WoW addons to tweak things here or there so I got into the habit of making backup copies of my entire Interface folder which included Addon files, Saved Variable Files, etc.
So many addons need to be updated/fixed though that even restoring settings wouldn't do much right now.
ZOS clearly didn't want to spend the cash to use staff developers so they rely on free time given by enthusiasts .. of course, when mods break and those authors have long gone it's ZOS paying customers who are left high and dry.Why there isn't a minimal option already in game is beyond me.

This is why I always say it's crass to base one's core play-style on unofficial and on-a-whim-abandoned tools .. sure, use add-ons for throwaway fluff like UI object positioning, etc. but to rely on such things for major play mechanics like gear/skill swapping as many do is just asking for this sort of pain on a regular basis.
Stop relying on addons to play the game.

This would be all well and good, except they didn't provide any documentation to the changed APIs and still haven't. They probably never would if one of the maintainers of ESOUI.com hadn't directly asked for them. The whole thing was quite giant middle finger to every add-on developer and I just hope that it doesn't drive away people like Wykkyd.p_tsakirisb16_ESO wrote: »a) ZoS can do what ever they want with their API. ur computer burned for that matter.
c) Add on developers, can be on holidays or watching the football. Believe me the API changes were on PTS and they didn't followed up with them.
So I do not see how is ZOS issue. Ofc, please QQ, is the "corporation fault not mine".

I'd love to be able to do that, but basic functions are unavailable without add-ons.
Guild stores are a screaming example of this. I'd also argue that crafting tool-tip add-ons are basic functions too (e.g. which traits you know and which you don't). There are 100+ traits in Clothing alone, without add-ons I was losing HOURS of game play just to make sure I didn't sell or deconstruct stuff with traits I still needed to research, and that's with an offline worksheet keeping store of my researches.
I don't use many add-ons, and some I certainly feel don't belong in the "core functionality" category. But guild store search, research assistant and provisioning assistant should be in the game. So should a mini-map (even though I don't use one).
Let me say this again: devs are using add-ons as an excuse not to do their jobs. Regardless of whose duty it is to ensure add-ons keep working, that much is true.
