9GB download!

  • Ellorienne
ZOS could you please include the PATCH SIZE in your patch notes? Not everyone has unlimited downloads, and what looks up to 9GB in patches can take a fair chunk of someone's limit.

What difference would it make? You either download it or you don't play the game. Not trying to come off rude... serious question.

What they should have done was start this at about midnight EST so they would be done around when most people get on to play. And to top it off they have this HUGE download for use to go through as well. Talk about a lack of consideration for the customer!

Right, so that all the people on the west coast would be cut off at 9PM.

Really any way you cut it people are going to get screwed out of time.

I could almost stomach an 8+ gb download if the download speeds weren't as if I was using a 14.4k baud modem. I mean, seriously, what the **** is up with getting 12-35 kb/s? My connection can handle up to 15 mb/s!

I had a 5 hour download. But now that its done, I still can't play because once AGAIN the patch broke the launcher giving me the famed "Client Fatal Error" message. Now I have to repair and the POS is making me redownload the entire patch again.

Zenimax, I am a paying customer, I will not stand for this. FIX IT (I know the rage doesn't help things, but I need to vent. I have lost an entire day of playtime because of this stupidity.)

Anyone who is raging about the patch times, please repeat this to yourself until you feel the calming wave:

"I am one of many, many, many, many people downloading a huge update at the same time. I am not the only player in the game. We all want to play."

It might save your sanity. :p

I was getting about 500-800kbps at first, but now getting about 23kbps and am at 18%. It all but nearly stopped at one point. I paused/resumed and it kicked back in. It's fairly obvious this is going to probably take a while regardless of my 75/35mbps connection. I could rage and scream about it, or just let it do it's thing and go do something else until it finishes. I think I'll save my forehead veins and just do something else, like, read the forums. ;p

I agree they probably need a better time-table/content delivery system so that we're not stuck with multiple 4-5gb (Did one of you say 24gb? ouch) patches at the same time, but I would also assume they must have a reason for doing it that way. Maybe it prevents some corruption or otherwise if patch #2 isn't immediately applied to #1. I really don't know, and would love for some ZOS insight, but I don't think they want to intentionally annoy people paying them money.

All that aside, the update looks exciting. I'm psyched for the bow improvements.

    Edit:
So, after the above, the d/l speed dwindled to less than 20kb/s, I paused/resumed one more time for the heck of it, and my speed jumped to 40+mB/s and it's now "Applying patch" of another 2-4GB and rounding 24% - As I guess it is going in stages. It's been, I think about 2 hours or so since I opened my client.

Maybe this won't be as brutal as it first appeared. :)

    Edit2:
It's now downloading 4.8GB around 1mB/s and at about 67%.

That was kinda crazy at the end of patch - went from about 3mB/s to about 26mB/s....Took less time in the last half for me.

ESO doesn't do small. Similar to their nerfing policy.

How about we repeat this mantra to ourselves: "I don't want to be one among many... this isn't the MMO I am looking for..."
    "Morally Decentralized."
