Is there a reason we can't download the patch at the point the server comes down? Or is it just incompetence?
Probably to avoid people moaning if they have to role back and their client just got broken by a patch that isn't live. ;)

I'd be happier losing an hour or two that way than not being able to play at all for 24 hours. No others games do it this way.

    It's really about 9gb.

    4.3 + 4.7 or so.

And yea it makes all of zero sense for 1 new dungeon, thats not even really a new dungeon.

Probably just really sloppy patch management, so we redownload everything changed, then download it again as its a double patch.

Just an FYI for all those who hate patch day downloads, if you leave the launcher running it will automatically download and install the patch when its available, thus usually when you are at work/afk it will patch and when you come back its magically delicious.

    Good tip.

I had two patches (so far). One was ~4gb, the second was around 24gb. Luckily I'm downloading at 47MB/s.

seriously, even you couldn't come up with a reason for the "fixes" listed in the patch note to be this big.

there is something wrong for this game that bug fixes needs this big download.

no, its 4G download, followed by patching of the game (28GB), then 5G download, followed by another patching (5gb).

Just imagine how large the updates are going to be when they add the new areas. You will literally be looking at downloading 100 gigs or more.

I'm sure you could play on dial-up... the real question is, would you want to?

I personally would never play a modern MMO on anything less than cable.

Patches this large for trivial things are, in all honesty, caused by shoddy programming practices. The inability to add in content without having to re-download multiple gigs of dependent files is sheer ineptitude.

    I'm on 50/25 FIOS.
I'm downloading the patch at dial-up speed.

Speedtest ran in the background and gave me ~61/32 speeds on the report.
The game patch is still chugging along at 19kBps.
