I feel robbed knowing I was mislead into both purchasing this game and subscribing.

I think they are more concerned at the moment with fixing all the bugs. I'm sure we will see more content asap but lets see the game made stable first before they add new stuff.

I can play from China and even participate in PvP, although sometimes it kicks me out and I need to restart the game entirely.

But considering I can play from China and experience minimal game breaking lag is good enough for me. I am fearful of VR levels though, wonder if i'll still be able to participate once the difficulty has got suitably harder.

Worst part is, people will stick around WoW, and if Blizzard say "dance", they start dancing and never do they question why they are dancing. In some terms, Blizzard has been very good at their propaganda and made a nice zombie army (most of which is their "Most valued players" who rush to their defence when called upon).

    Anyway.

I'm not VR 10 yet so I still have a few more hours of content left, but as I'm VR9 it's starting to grow thin on the board of having things to do. But I can't say I feel cheated or lied to by ESO, they are as any other game company, full of hot air when it comes to promising and not so good at keeping those promises. So the trick is not to buy into any of the pre-release propaganda any game company gives out, except if it's Valve. They at least know how to deliver.

As for lag free, not to come of as too rude to the OP, but if you belived - truly and honestly - that an MMO would be a lag free experience because some dude working for the MMO company said so, then I have some very bad news for you son; you're the most gullible person out there. Congratulations, hoist your colours and celebrate your achievements. No MMO, and I mean no MMO, has ever been lag free. Ever, never, and as long as we have the infrastructure that we have on the internet today, it won't be either. So if you bought into it, I think the only person I can quote then, had this to say:
    "Haha!" - Nelson Muntz

lol, yeah I never thought for one second that they could deliver a lag free ESO.

If a developer says they will release content within a certain time frame, it's usually safe to add a month or two on top of that.

The problem ist that some people are interpreting "playing the way you want" in a way that they would be able to create a light armored crafter, focused on provisioning, max mana and stamina regeneration, fighting with a healing staff to tank bosses in craglorn while they are V1.

I think that is meant by "can you handle your dream". In this particular case: Sorry, no you can't and there are a lot more of less ridiculous examples out there that can't be handled.

    Just a couple of notes...

    1) 4-6 weeks from when, early access release, the official launch, the date the game went subscription, they never really said when those dates would start... regardless, if 1.1.x were to go live this week it would probably be within the acceptable release schedule. Also, there are a number of people begging them not to release it, so you might complain at them instead.

    2) With one exception which lasted for 10-15 minutes in a specific area of the game (and not anywhere else in the map during that time) I've not experienced any lag. The playtime on my main is just over 118 hours. So my belief on the whole lag thing is that it's likely more situational than a server issue.

I watched that game for a couple of years.

I jumped into it a few times to see what had been added/changed.

I never saw any sign of it ever getting past beta. I got an e-mail a bit back with a load of buzz about quests being added so I hopped in .... to one quest to go rescue someone who'd crashed.

It's sad, the potential there was massive but it seems to have been wasted.

I never put any money into it though ..... $250 must sting a bit. Hopefully it might go somewhere.

Yeah, that was misleading, although plenty of people say they can play any role with any class. I can't though, I can play DK as any role, Templar as tank/healer, sorc as light DPS, and struggle with any role for my NB.

The perfect role for NB is hiding and waiting, and logging in to feed your horses.

Has anyone ever seen a politician that did everything he promised before the election? I mean public statements about a huge game that involves so much money are no different than most political promises and should always be taken "with a grain of salt". If you are naive enough to believe these things 100% then I pity you, you'll be disappointed a lot during your lifetime.

I actually thought this meant my class would not set my role , hah , i actually believed it , silly me :P.

    well lets see:
NB can tank dps heal or cc
Templars can tank heal or dps ( not seen one as a ccer as of yet)
DK can tank, dps cc and heal
Sorc can tank, dps cc and heal

so seems to me every class can fill every role

if being "viable" is good enough for you mate , then that is great for you, you will enjoy this game for a long time.

What i thought it meant , is that any class can be equally suited for any role if you built for it... they cant.

Some are clearly better at some things.

I will grant it to you , any class got atleast one role they can compete with others when it comes to being the best suited for it , but they cant go for it all.

Yes being capable of playing any role is good enough for me and fits with what the DEVs states about the game.

Have you looked around and checked on diffrent sites how terrible ESO has been selling world wide ?
This shows me that people re waking up and dont go rushing to the stores and throw money down like a few years ago like with SWTOR.

I was a sucker that coulnt wait again and preorder this mmo, only to found out this Matt Firor and his scammers sold us a beta client that still needs at least 6 months of work before its considered a live client.

ESO is doing horrible in sales and i am glad they do, even more happy people vote with their waller so the nextstudio that thinks its ok to sell unfinished crap gets even less profits.

    Thank you, @Sleepydan.

I would also stop and consider this, regarding bugs and "unfinished games". I doubt there's been such a thing as a non-buggy game release since the days of Space Invaders - and if that didn't have bugs, it's only because it requires probably a mere 200 lines of BASIC coding ... and uh, I remember messing around with those books you used to get for your VIC-20 with programmes in that you had to type out; most of them didn't work at all.

If we insisted on companies making their games totally bug-free before release .. they'd never bloody well get released.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of "bugs" are actually just "emergent properties" of complex coding that can't be forseen, even if your code is theoretically perfect.

The new craze among MMO developers is to promise new content every 4-6 weeks. Every MMO released in the past 3 years or so has promised the exact same thing, and so far I have yet to see even a single developer come through on that promise (RIFT being the possible exception. Those devs work their butts off making server events.)

No player should ever expect content updates every 4-6 weeks. You have to view the developers as politicians. They are competing for your vote against all the other MMOs out there (most people only play 1, maybe 2, MMO(s) at a time) so of course they are going to embellish their promises. Or think of them as salesmen. Either way, embellishment is par for the course.

That was probably a bad promise to make. And now they have to put lots of work into craglorn crap for VR10 ppl, when the whole game is taking a hit due to bugs and bots which should get all their love right now INSTEAD OF NEW CONTENT (which will bring even more bugs).

Matt Firor promised that we would be receiving content releases every 4-6 weeks as part of the subscription deal.

(If someone doesnt like walls of text, or has a short attention span: SKIP this post NOW)

Similar promises have been made during the release periods of other mmos.

My experience shows that it starts with small delays... (following narration is a sum-up of real world experience with an mmo that has been out for a couple of years now)

At the time of the games release its "promised content updates every 6-8 weeks" and then they turn into...

"we have to delay the content update due to quality reasons... and we know you prefer a bug-free late release to a bugged early release"

(Of course releases will never be bug-free but only guaranteed to be late)

Over the course of time those.. "promised ~6 content updates per year" will turn into a "...promised quarterly content updates per year...."

When players ask the devs why they call it "quarterly content update" when the initial promise was a "bi-montly update" - there is only silence as a reply.

In addition purchased addons will be advertised with certain promised content.. Only for the players to notice that when the addon is finally released- that some of the promised features are missing.

This will be excused one more time with "reasons of quality" control and the promise to deliver the missing content "as soon as possible."

Months later the missing content from the addon will be delivered - and advertised to the players not as "sorry guys it took us so long to finish the content that you already bought 5 months ago" .. but... "enjoy people.. here is this springs new free content update"... (with no mention of the real intended content update because that one was just entirely skipped in favor of delivering the mission content of the earlier mentioned addon.

Then there will be a period when every player starts to ask him/herself whether the devs are still alive.. because nothing has been seen or read for months... and suddently the promised schedule is... "...one free content update per year and one payed addon." which boils down to only 2 major updates per year.

Would you be surprised that in the mmo im referring to.. more and more players finally quit their subscriptions?

I really do pray the ESO-devs are NOT that stupid to follow down the same lane.. because what ultimately happened to the other mmo im mentioning is... players started dwindling away at an increasing pace. Companies revenues bottomed out... devs were laid off... *SURPRISE*... announcement: "we want to make it possible more players can enjoy our fine game.. so we are going F2P"..... and force building the game around the fracking item shop.

Introducing artificial grind barriers into the game for two reasons: a) to artifically make the little content they introduce take players longer to finish.. and b) just to be able to offer some way around the artifical grind in the real-money shop. (and thus driving even more players away).

    ........
Given my past experience I am watching VERY closely on how true the devs stay to their timeline with their content schedule. (and what the actual content ist)

If i was to pay a subscription to a TV-station... so I can watch a broadcast of my favorite TV-series... and that was promised to be "once every 2 months".... That still makes it a fracking expensive TV show (13x2 = 26 euros for ONE new episode).

But would certainly NOT pay the TV station to slowly strech the schedule more and more.. until I pay 13 euros every month for no actuall new content but just a repetion of the same thing.. "you have to watch episode 130 of your TV show for 100 times until you are allowed to proceed to watching episode 131". (And then offering a special unlock key in the TV-stations onlineshop that allows you to skip to episode 131 after only having watched episode 130 for only 50 times)

All above is the reason why im NOT subbing for a multi month subscription. (paying 6 or more months in advance? no way)

This leaves me in power to vote with my money (or the lack of it) whether I like the current course of events or not.

For a premium price, I expect a premium game - no less.

It is interesting to note the number of people that are giving Zen a pass because "Well, all the other games did it!".

How about we turn that around and ask; If all the other games failed to deliver on time and with just the minimum number of problems why didn't ESO?
    • Why didn't Matt and crew study the past and plan for the future?
    • Why didn't ZOS ask for the equivalent of an environmental impact statement as it pertained to the current gaming environment and community?
    • Why does this game feel thin, rushed out, and buggy after a year in beta if the other games gave examples of what not to do?
    • Etc, etc.
How does that saying go about not knowing history and repeating it?
