Why is it always raining?

First off this forum has wayyy to many sub categories, so apologies if I should post this somewhere else.

Does it rain all the time for you guys? I'd say 90% of my time in game, it's raining. I thought this might have been a Grahtwood thing (jungle), but I started a Daggerfall character and it's always raining in those zones as well. Like anyone, I love having a changing weather system just like all the ES games. But, when it rains all the time like this, it just feels like I am playing on low draw distance settings. I wish we had a fw command, but I understand that's not possible with an mmo.

Does anyone else encounter this much rain?

yep, its a rainy land ol' Tamriel. On the positive note, much less rain in the desert areas.

wait, I just had a realization, that's why the gear decays so fast, all that rain is not good for the materials of metal and leather... :D

It is zone dependant. In Alik'r Desert it didn't rain once though it has cool sand storms ;) In other zones it also varies. I would say it is rather too often or it could do with a bit more granularity (drizzle, fog etc.) But it is great to have the effects.

I actually looked forward to sandstorms as they are done so well. Like generally in the game, the sound effects are truly great. I still jump sometimes when it thunders :)

The rain does effect performance though not hugely but probably more so on lower end graphics.

Via OpenGL (Mac default or OGL in PC option) there is a graphics bug where thee is a square that follows you and ground is dark due to a missing/ non functioning Splash texture apparently. Hopefully it will get sorted soon as it makes gathering tough and looks bad particularly on water.

Glenumbra has wetter weather than the Welsh borders, it rarely seems to stop raining.

No, I've had some rain, but not much.
Mostly been overcast, but had some Sun and even Fog, but no Snow.

It's raining, its pouring, the old moth priest is snoring.

It really depends on zone, have noticed it rarely rains in some zones, in some it rains a lot, in others you have sand storms and snow instead. They did a good job with having the weather match the areas.

It seems like it's always raining, or night. Or both. I'd like to know how they cycle stuff like that.

The thunder and lightning are nice, too!

All in all, not bad on the weather effects ... though it would be nice to see some more profound colors on the sunsets. (Wishing some of the ENB mods from Skyrim could be applied here ... see my Redgaurd char attached.)d62ijoso04j4.jpg

my main is a DC character and it seems to rain a lot or it's usually cloudy/never sunny around aldcroft, glenumbra.

it is by no means game-breaking or anything but it does get a little depressing IMO. but ah well, I don't usually linger there so I guess I'll just move on elsewhere

I love the rain... and especially when its accompanied by lightning and the rumbling of thunder. And it adds good atmosphere to the game too. So yep, it rains a lot, but i don't mind it. Not so much in the sandy desert though.

So since my original post I've spent a lot of hours in game. I had one play session where it wasn't raining and it lasted about 10 minutes. This is for both my AD and DC characters. I don't mind weather patterns as it obviously adds to the realism and immersion, but it is a bit depressing now. It's difficult to soak up the visuals when there's really nothing but consistent rain and fog everywhere.

How does weather work in MMO's? Is it entirely random or a set cycle? Do the devs input some code which dictates how often one type of weather should display? I'm genuinely curious as this is the first MMO I've encountered this "issue" with. It always seemed to be a natural pattern in other games whereas here it's pretty much always raining for me.

I love the sound effects when its raining - so realistic.

What makes me laugh is when I am in the bank in daggerfall and its raining on the desktops.

It doesn't hurt that most of the game takes place in a coastal region or close enough to a large body of water that the amount of rain is appropriate.

I live by the ocean and it's pretty spot on for weather patterns within the distance to the ocean most of the game takes place in considering the climate and time of year the game takes place in.
