Increase the number of skill slots

Eris

Dear Zenimax,

I realize that you want to limit the number of skill slots, but I also realize you want to make money, so here's my deal. I'll pay you $20 for an account-wide 2 slot increase to the number of skill slots, and I will pay another $20 for another 2. So that would be $20 to bring me to 7, and another $20 to bring me to 9.

If even 20% of the player base is interested in this, that would be more than enough to handle the development cost of that modification.

I also realize you don't have an in-game store yet, so I'm hopeful that you will get on that sooner than later. People are always telling me that they are quitting because they want to vote with their wallets, so here is the opposite, I'd like to vote with my wallet too... well more than just my subscription...

For those who say that would be pay to win, I say L2P (learn to pay).

Regards,
Eris

It's sad that someone cannot post a message that says, hey I'd like a change in the game, here's what I'd like and here's how you can pay for the development cost. At least that can't post without someone telling them to go away, that's quite hostile you know.

BTW, I actually do know how to play the game and I do so quite successfully. I'm quite happy with the game, but I'd be happier with 7 or 9 skill slots. Or 14 & 18 if you factor in weapon swap.

Yes, but I think you should create your own thread to support that.

I do know that some MMOs offer a level up purchase in their store. So that might be an option to think about. :)

ok, I understand why you want your 500 skill slots. You come from WOW and are used to that kind of crap and have a 32 button mouse. Well some of us don't have a gaming mouse. They are expensive. I can tell you from experience in ESO even how much of a difference a mouse with more than 3 buttons has. I started the game with a regular mouse. It is a hassle to even press 1-5 and then move fingers back to wasd. With a gaming mouse it is infinitely easier. I could slot 4 more abilities on my mouse and support a 9 or 10 skill bar, but I understand and sympathize with players who don't want to spend $80+ on a gaming mouse. Clearly you have money to burn, but most of us do not. We do not want an in game store, there are already vendors. We do not want more skills on our hot bar, that would make the game too easy. It is currently at the perfect difficulty, easy enough to solo most things, but you will still die occasionally. A 10 skill bar would get rid of the L2P style of this game and lead to a "learn to pay(for a gaming mouse)" style. An in game micro purchase store would be horrible! This is a sub game, forget those crappy ideas and think about something that would help the majority of players, not those who are willing to pay $40 more on this game.

No, sorry, I am not. I was unaware that someone else started a thread about Zenimax creating an in-game store and selling skill slots. Had I been aware of such a thread, I certainly would have posted in it first.

I assure you, that you could look through my entire posting history and would not find another thread started by me on this subject.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Actually you might be surprised by this but I've actually never played WoW in my life. I have played (in order, listing graphical MMOs only) City of Heroes, DDO, LOTRO, SWTOR and the Secret World.

I don't have a gaming mouse, or a gaming system, I have an off the shelf HP 810-160 with a stock 2 button mouse.

I actually use my numeric keypad (and the keys around it) to do pretty much everything. In other MMOs that I play, I use the mouse to click the powers that I want to use, I don't bother hot keying things.

Nah, 5 skill slots or 10 skill slots do not change the difficulty. It might change how much or how little you can do, but it has nothing to do with difficulty, challenge or skill. The learn 2 play idea with 5 skills or 10 skills doesn't make a difference, really I think using your example of 500 skills would require a much higher learning curve.

I assume you mean to say I not we when you claimed to represent the entire community in who wants hotbars and micro-transactions. Some people do, some people don't, but if I am to be expected to respect your opinion, then you most certainly should respect other opinions as well. I do respect that you do not want it, but that does not mean I have to agree with you.

In the long run, I'm not really worried about what they do. Add skill slots, don't add skill slots, it won't keep me from playing the game. It will, however, likely reduce my long term interest as the same 3 powers (since I have 2 familiars summoning power slotted) get kind of old pretty fast.

I said the majority of us because I was drawing statistics off of the comments on this post. So you use wasd and the top 12345 on your keyboard or how do you do it? You seem to think that in a game like ESO, you can press 0 while still moving your character around using wasd? or am I getting this wrong. I have long ass fingers, but I have problems doing 6+. even if I just used the direction arrows I can only reach 0 1 2 4 comfortably. So how do you suggest being able to do 10 skills with 1-0 and still dodge and move around. In most other MMOs you have played you can right click the mob to lock on and then press the numbers for the skills. In this MMO and MMOs like Tera, you have to aim and move or you will die and going any higher than 5 on Tera without a gaming mouse=a quick death. It is more of a L2P with 5 skills+ult because you can't have all the skills you WANT to use hotbared, it was made that way. If it was made with 10, everyone would roll templar and have healing spells slotted as well as their primary weapon abilities and armor abilities without compromise. In this 5 skill system, you have to learn and test which skills you want to slot and which are the best 5 for your play style. With 10 I would have so many skills that I could wreck anything. Immovable would be back on my bar. That ardent flame armor or w/e would be back on my bar, I would be indestructible because of all the armor buffs and then still be able to deal mass damage with 2h or dual weild weapon abilities. Sure having 10 abilities sounds great, but you have to really think it out first and realize that it isn't a good idea. Anyone can play with 10 abilities, it takes skill to be great with only 5.

I think that it's funny that what I do, on my account, that has likely never crossed your path, would impact your game play experience one way or the other.

Let's see, why should someone who 'wasted' $20 have an edge... um, because they spent $20 more. A perfect example is the Imperial Edition. It was $20 more and got you an almost free horse and a race that nobody else gets to play. I have the Imperial Edition, if you don't I have an edge, and if you do then you felt the need to waste some extra money too.

As for backlash, I've not really seen a backlash. I've seen some opposing viewpoints, and that is fine with me. I believe that everyone who subscribes is entitled to their opinion. Even if nothing comes of it, do I not have the right to post my opinions just as much as you do? To be honest, even non-subscribers have a right to an opinion, though I'm not 100% sure they will be able to express them here after the free time lapses...

Additional skills are different - buying any combat ability or additional hotkey spaces so you can have extra skills on your extended skillbar is p2w, and it's insane you ever thought anybody would support you on this, or even hope you would not get flamed outright.

I actually did say in my 1st post on the last line that I actually do think of it as pay to win, I'm not actually denying that. I think that pre-ordering and being able to play any race in any faction is pay to win, I think that ordering Imperial is also a pay to win situation. I'm actually okay with that.

As for being concerned about being flamed, not really worried about it. I've been around the Internet since before the world wide web, so I'm more than capable of handling myself. The secret is not to take a debate on a subject to personally, everyone has an opinion, and they are all equal in value.

Um, I believe the definition of unanimous means all in agreement. While 80% is a majority it is hardly unanimous.

As for forum polling, do you seriously think that Zenimax bases any decision they make on a forum poll? That would certainly be silly of them.

Hey, I'm sorry I missed your post... I just saw it (and @redtalon) which was about the same thing.

Anyhow, the way I see it, 5 powers, 7 powers or 9 powers, you still have the same magicka and stamina, that itself is a balance. You would have more access to more options but still draw from the same power pools. I find that even with only 3 powers available (as I have 2 familiars) I am often running out of magicka and stamina in longer fights.

The devs would probably have to spend some time looking at how to make it work, but as for overall game balance, there really isn't a lot of that already. Compare a vampire to a werewolf as an example of that. Or compare a vampire to anyone else for that matter.

However, if only 10,000 people were to buy the option (in a game that might have over a million players that would be only 1% of the player base, we just don't know) that would still be $200,000-$400,000 into the development budget plus subscriptions. Assuming more than 1% would be interested if it were to be made available, you can multiply that number by the percentage increase. So 5% would be $1,000,000 to $2,000,000. Economically, it would make them good money and pay a lot of development bucks.

One last thing before I leave you all for the evening...

I am fully aware that this game is destined to be accessible to consoles... and that in itself would have been your easiest argument. While there are keyboards for consoles, the mainstream only has standard controllers and the game must conform to that in order to work.

Perhaps I will find another fun topic to discuss tomorrow night.

So, I hope you had a good time, it was a spirited debate. :)

They should just give us more skill slots no charge, we are PC players not console players. Let the consoles get 5 slots if they want to but on the PC a MMO with 5 slots always gets really boring after a while especially as you will most likely use passive skills too.
