Start an RP guild, or join one- if there are half as many RPers in-game as the few on these forums like to make it seem, then our megaserver should be rolling in RP guilds already.

Oh good lord it is. But getting them together is the real trick.

The current phasing system really hampers RP since unless you are well-coordinated you'll rarely be in the same phase. So random RP almost never happens. Also, since there's no way to readily ID a roleplayer (a title would be nice) you more or less look at the name and if it's lore-friendly, take a shot. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not so much.

Perhaps down the road, someone will make an add-on that will have the ability for RPers to spot each other. Like for example, an icon or a color change in the name, so others who would have this add-on, can see that.
    All good Nords goto Sto'Vo'Kor.

Agreed... My two cents on roleplaying in an MMO like this: Coordinated RP as in guilds normally turns into chatroom RP over guild channels. The alternative is pre-planned RP gatherings, which have a pretty good chance of being themed and thus turning into near-scripted roleplay. Those things are fairly dull to me. What is actually fun to me is random chance encounters that spawn actual roleplay. That is what was lost with the roleplay-phasing.

Unfortunately addons cannot put a marker on a player in world, and since there are multiple ways to show character names (nameplate addons and such) I'm not sure you could have a universal modification there. It may be possible to apply some color coding to chat, but I'm not sure how that would interfere with already existing chat colors.

I think I'm going to hit ESOUI and see what's currently available to get a better feel for what the mod API could do to help the situation.

The events I've attended thus far on EP-NA have been pretty fun and not too scripted. Certainly there is purpose, but for now they have mostly been veiled versions of meet-n-greets.

As for addons, I do have an addon that adds class icons next to names when you mouse over a person. Perhaps someone could make an addon where if the other person has that addon and has RP toggled on it displays an "RP" or some kind of symbol next to their name. That could work for now. I do hope when they add chat bubbles (said to be coming soon) that perhaps they'll add some other little functions as well (I still say a roleplayer title would be exactly what we need).

Finding a real RP guild is not as easy as it seems.

I was in one at wow, it was great and I played an UD. But it took ages to find that guild ;)

The opinions about how to RP are probably as large as the opinions about how to MMO. A questionnaire could have helped a lot, I honestly was very disappointed when I heard they kicked it out.

I was looking forward to tick a box such as casual RP, no cybering :(

Yeah, that's another thing worth mentioning. RPers range from "so casual that I'm going to use text-messaging lingo and zero punctuation" to "so hardcore that I'm going to hit the message size limit several times...you may want a book handy to read while I'm posting" and everything in between.

Most of us only like to RP with people generally close to us on the spectrum. We're really picky <children born out of wedlock>.

(Really? That's censored? Of all the wordy dirts out there? I've yet to see anyone be truly offended by that word, real life or online.)
