Please Don't Link Dye / Tints with "Achievements"

I am guessing I am not the only person that ignores "achievements". Let's face it, anything you do in a computer game is just entertainment between times when I actually achieve something in life. The notion that anything in a computer game is an achievement is nonsense. As somebody who doesn't feel compelled to complete "achievements", I don't want to have to complete the PvP achievement of uber killer to get the shade of green I really want. On the other hand, I don't want to force PvP folks to complete the PvE achievement of doing nothing but dungeons to get that perfect red shade they want.

Where did they say it was linked to achievements? what game ever did that?

And some of us have a terrible completionist OCD and will. I do not want to see them lined to achievements though. They should be found or craftable.

I agree. I want dyes to drop on occasion. Gah do not make black dye achievement only.

According to the AMA from yesterday.

    http://dulfy.net/2014/05/01/eso-may-1-reddit-ama-transcript/

However, the way I read this there will be a dye system and extra dyes will be unlocked via the achievements.

Couldn't care less about achievements in any game.

Saying that, I did take notice of how many achievements in this game were broken. And it all started with testing their fishing out, that they bragged so much about.

So before they even consider dye achievements, how about they fix all the achievements in this game that are currently defective. I've never heard of a game having this many broken achievements. That's usually something developers get right. Because it isn't hard to do.

Why is anyone complaining about achievements? They are ridiculous easy to acquire.

ADDITIONAL dyes will be achievement unlocked. Not all dyes. At least, that's what the Reddit post seems to say: "Achievements will unlock new dyes when dye system goes live"

I'm perfectly ok with some dyes being achievement gated. A lot of the achievements come naturally, and those that you really have to work for deserve some sort of reward. Now if all dyes were gated behind achievements I'd be against that, but if you kill X amount of players in pvp, or beat a record, I don't see what's so bad about giving you a cosmetic reward. (better a dye than something that directly increases your ability or odds of winning)

Not wanting dyes / tints tied to achievements doesn't mean anybody wants everything for nothing. The simple point is if you think achievements in a game are pointless you ignore them and don't make an effort to get them. It's a portion of the game that some people feel is just an unwelcome flash on the screen after doing running around enjoying the view. There are some achievements that force a play style on you if you want to get them (PvP, PvE, Group Dungeons). Even people who like achievements don't want to be forced to play in a mode they don't like to get awards.

When I see "achievements" I wanna complete then

I haven't cared at all about achievements so far, yet I still completed them.

"Congratulations, you've just been eaten by a Slaughterfish. You now know how to tint your armor in a pink mist!" Fabulous!

AFAIR the reddit transcript correctly, dyes will be linked retroactively to existing achievements. So chances are good that everyone will get a number of dyes greater than zero when 1.1 goes live.

Agreed - I was hoping dyes would be gained from materials gathered in the world.

Pretty disappointing to me, as achievement *** is boring as hell.

I like it, it adds a purpose for achievements. Currently you cant even compare achievements with friends or guild mates

I think the achievement thing is nonsense. Why not implement something more immersive and logical?

Use flower petals that are randomly gathered from various plant resource nodes just like the insects that's are sometimes gathered.. You want blue armor? Loot some bugloss. The colors are already there as part of the flowers... Others could be found in drawers and chests and such.

Let's keep it real. Clothing dye doesn't fall out of the sky when we achieve something in our lives.. Why should it for our character??

Wait to see how they implement this dyeing system in the game, then judge.
Also.. it is just a stylish thing, keep calm. I like roleplaying when it isn't exaggerated.

As long as the dyes are available via more than one way... i.e. you can get "deadra heart black" or whatever color via both PvE and PvP achievements.

I really, really dislike it when getting access to fluff items requires you to get involved in play you don't like. I'd rather not see folks who just love to PvP being pushed to tank dungeons just so they can get stylish armor, and I'd prefer Cyrodiil not be full of cranky recruits who are just there for the dye, too.

Black and white and the many variations will most likely be achievement based.
Hopefully they'll make the dye system a bit more in depth than the gw2 dye system and give more customization options. And I bet they'll add certain dyes to the pay store as well.

As long as they will give equal chance to everyone to get same type of dyes with different achievements, for pve, pvp, rp, explorers, crafters etc. i see no harm but fun. One of the many reasons that i stopped playing wow was, it was so unfair the best gems can be cut by only the boss drops from raids which i never found it fun.

I did one of those achievements the other day! Then found out I wasn't going to get my skill point because I did the achievement before completing a specific quest. I'm on the forums every day and managed to miss Zenimax telling us that would happen - somebody said they had announced this achievement was broken, apparently.

I'd like to see those skill point achievements fixed so I actually get them before I care about dyes, honestly. :/

I dont think they will make armor dye availability based on achievement progress. Achievements especially for questing is a good progress tracker to see if your missing anything. Dont knock achievements, you get nifty rewards for your trouble. Just like you get ALL KINDS of goody goodness if you just participate a weee lil bit in some pvp. You know you can buy mats with alliance points right? crafters??

this sums it up perfectly. OP is one of those people who if u are better at in a game cries "oh i could be as good as you if i spent as much time and had no life". no. you couldnt. grow up.

No interest in any kind of goody goodness from pvp. I don't like the idea of being killed by another player. If dyes get locked behind pvp achievements, I just won't use any dye.

I'm pleased that the achievements will actually get something; but also pleased that it seems that achievements won't be the only way to get the dyes.

But could someone explain for an MMO newbie like me, why dying armor is important? I'm not against it, as a crafter I'm for any new crafting thing. I do understand those who are worried about garish pastel hues everywhere, looking decidedly un-Tamrielic, but I have at least some faith in ZOS' vision that they won't make too-crazy tie-die hues available, at least initially.

My problem is, I just don't understand it yet.

I mean... I get that it'll make you look nice, and maybe make PvP easier because you can wear matching outfits, and the achievement-based colors will be good for bragging rights (I like that idea!)

But a lot of people have been asking for it (which is why they listened! Well done on getting them to do that!) - and I don't understand why the idea's so popular.
