Character is locked?

I went afk, come home from running some errands, I have been kicked to character select with an error code 326 stating my character is locked. I can play any other character except that one. What's up?

Were you in a public dungeon when you went afk? If so a GM may have banned you for being a bot...

Nope, was standing by a world boss location, but I wouldn't have been attacking or looting anything as I was simply AFK. I just walked away. I'm assuming they banned it for being a "bot" but wouldn't I need to be doing something to be a bot?

What is the lesson of the day? Don't go afk in dungeon as the devs have started doing mass AOE, death from above with a ban hammer. I would put a ticket in.

Nope, that´s just it. YOU wouldn´t be doing anything. File an appeal.

And this time would be any different why? I walk away, game kicks me to character select. This time it says my character is locked. No difference from every other time I've just walked away.

1- there is a time out if you are away from keyboard for a few mins
- I know ive been logged off
so if you doing nothing with the player while you AFK it should log out/time out
if it's doing something to keep it alive while your away - it's botting

2. if you're by a boss and get the Ban hammer for sitting there - and your not going anywhere when a GM comes in and gives a warning then you deserve it

No farming bosses - should be the message
hit it and leave... you stay then you are no different then a bot and deserve the hammer

there are notices to report suspicious activity like bots - sitting near a boss hitting it repeatedly is suspicious or just sitting there

if you know your going to AFK then log out and come back
this will avoid it in the future


here is the problem
imagine every ore/plant/rune/chest/etc being hovered over by a bot or a player
and getting the node very time it appears (leaving nothing for anyone else)
and this keeps newbs or everyone else from getting it
this is not fair to anyone else

this is possible - how many people do you think will sign up and play - figure it out
I can see it happening if rules aren't in place

Zenimax can change the rules at any time - TOS

so the message should be don't park and farm - move around to other spots
if you want to park - there are wayshrines and town to visit for a break

A GM has locked your character. There was a thread about this earlier. They're locking characters who go AFK around farmable things.

Dude going afk anywhere doesnt make you a fricking bot.

Ive had to get out of my chair and abandon everything even mid combat. You cant logout in combat either.

Just being afk isnt enough justification for accusing anyone of botting.

And the system message announcing GM arrival is nice. It sends the bots into hiding unil hes gone. Soon as Antiboty left uesterday they came back out in full swing.

I deserve to have my character locked because I walked away from my keyboard near something farmable? The entire game is farmable you ignorant fool. I could stand by a barrel and wait for it to respawn, loot it, and get all the provisioning mats!

What I was saying is Don't be AFK... out of town - they are nailing people sitting over nodes - you want to hover around one doing nothing you risk getting hit be a ban hammer

The fact is there are bots out there - this makes it unfair to others
you sit around a boss or a node you risk getting hit by a GM
or noticed by someone and reported

I generally leave higher levels out and proper named people from reports
but if you have "gibberish names" around nodes or running routes to nodes
or bosses they are getting reported

in town is another story or in some Crafting spot or building... so you be ok there
I don't care if your camping in a area like that

but like were noticing the bots in the buildings and towns now too
looting stuff for GP

Look it isn't fun - I think everyone going to get hit eventually even me
the bots are ruining everything

I've been logged out if I am afk for about around 10 minutes give or take. I am lucky all my kids are grown. I guess my cats are well mannered since they rarely knock down anything that needs immediate attention. And if someone calls (I don't play while on phone) I move my character well away from any mobs and resources.

With gold sellers also selling power-leveling it makes it hard for players and GMs to recognize someone is just afk or getting power-leveled or botting. So, I don't take chances if I ever go afk (I'm ill in real life) on the fly I just shut my game down with just one hit and then I'm gone. If I need to get coffee or cook I make sure if I'm in a dungeon I am at the entrance and nothing else.

I take pre-cautions simply put as should everyone as this company tries to deal with gold sellers, bought power-levelers, bots, and resource bots.

It's entirely possible that you didn't get logged out because of your proximity to the boss. If it was one that did any sort of AOE, and you were close enough to take any damage while other people were fighting, it's entirely possible that this would reset the AFK timer and keep you in place.

Assuming that's the case (and bear in mind it's just speculation) it's also possible that at some point a GM came on to sweep the bots, and you got caught in it when they asked the 'live' players to clear the area before they used their AOE. However, as I understand it, they would have banned the account, not locked the character. It's more likely that someone reported you as a possible bot, and they locked that character down on the premise that you were innocent until proven guilty, and that you'd contact them to find out what happened.

I'd keep in touch with Support to find out what's going on. @ZOS_JasonL mentioned they're looking into it for you, so I'd definitely follow up on that.

Didn't get a ban. CS rep that I spoke with said they couldn't find any reason for the lock. Was unlocked same day.
