If it makes you feel better, even buying the Imperial version won't get you this ability. It was a preorder only deal. I wish I could place whatever race I chose where I choose. Heck, I'd be quite fine with things as they are now if it were possible to leave your alliance and join a different one within game via quest line or what not.

The obvious reason you have to pay extra, because you cannot spell "Imperial" correctly. Until you do, I guess you'll have to pay.

Dear OP, you have to pay for Imperial Edition because it is not the standard edition. Fortunately, you can buy the Imperial Edition at an upgrade price as opposed to having to just flat out buy it again.

Even if you bought the Imperial Edition upgrade, the right to place other races in a different faction was given to the pre-order customers as a perk. If you did not per-order, you don't get the pre-order perk.

Like someone said, there will probably be a paid method to get that perk in the future, but it's not likely to happen right away.

The Imperial Edition was supposed to be a limited offer and should have been discontinued when the game launched, but I guess they made so much money off of it, that they decided to keep it going, so be glad you can still get it.

I didn't buy the CE. I did preorder. And I can choose any alliance I want with any race I want. 'Cept Imperial. Never liked the Imperial anyway, more of a Khajit and Argonian type player.

That "any race in any faction" thing was a pre-order perk; there's not much point in getting upset about it. It's fair that it's only for pre-orders because everyone had the opportunity to pre-order. If someone throws a tantrum that we all should have it, after the fact, then it devalues the concept of the perk - that's not fair.

I can play any race in any alliance and I don't own the Imperial Edition.

It was, however, a pre order bonus.

All characters of all races will eventually play in all areas to get to cap. So as far as not wanting to do the same area again on another character, well, if you plan on playing to cap you'll have to.

Players who pre-ordered got a bonus, they can play any race in any alliance. It's just a bonus, something most games do now for people who pre-order, but it isn't game changing at all.

Players can still purchase the Imperial Edition or even upgrade to it and that will allow them to play as a pretty generic race in any faction. So if you really want to be in Aldmeri Dominion (for whatever reason, perhaps you have friends in that faction) but can't stand the thought of being an elf or a cat, there is always the option of being an imperial.

When it comes right down to it, the racial traits can be a nice little bonus, but are certainly not must have for any role. Furthermore, you can find motifs for armor which will allow you to craft in any racial style, so nobody (including yourself) will really know what you're hiding under than robe... unless it's a tail.

Personally, I really wish there weren't even factions in PVE, there's no need for them, they merely dilute the player base and make it harder to group with others. Yet, there are a lot of choices available that reduce the impact factions have on your character compared to other games where if you're buddy was in a certain faction then to play with them you might have to play a character you really don't like.

I invested in the game pre-launch with the knowledge that I would essentially be "post launch beta testing" for people who join in 6 months or a year.

For my pre-order $80 investment, ZOS thanked me with a few perks.

This is capitalism. Whether it's a pre-order game for $80 or a revolutionary MRI machine investment of 2 million USD, early investors get perks. Life goes on.

Games like WoW and others have many cash items, alliance changes, name changes etc. Lots of games and services do these types of things even those with a sub fee.

Imperial Edition doesn't contain the "Explorer's Pack" that allowed you to play any race on any alliance. That bonus is gone "forever". ZOS has said they have no plans to make it available in the future. That may change but I wouldn't count on it. So unless you pre-ordered the game you are out of luck for that bonus.

If you have a gamestop check it for that edition.I preordered but friend of mine did not. He picked it up on the 6th and they had some that noone picked up ( preorders no one claimed)... and he got one of those. So it is worth asking about.

    * ask for any left over explorer's pack or just check the shelves by this time they might have stuck them out on shelves.

I saw a bunch on the shelf at Target the other day, and I think some at Walmart, too.

Oh boy do I have some bad news for you heh heh

The "play any race in any alliance" perk was only for people who pre-ordered. If you did not pre-order, you can never get that. Not even if you buy the imperial edition.

    LOL, actually, they don't.

If they really wanted to milk your cash they'd have made this available in their cash shop. But they havn't. There is no way you can buy this perk.

EDIT - I suppose you could "buy" an account from a player who pre-ordered. Lots of potential issues with that though, and I am sure it probably violates the TOS somewhere.

I hear the physical version of the Imperial Edition comes with a code that gets you the 'any race any faction' pre-order bonus too. No idea if true or if you can still get them physically, though.

I thought that you could only upgrade your account from regular to imperial if you preordered the game to give that option to "loyal" fans that preordered the game.

But I can see them allowing anyone to upgrade to the imperial edition at some point, because that's what game companies do now. Withhold content so they can launch with more "DLC" or "perks". COD is famous for it.

Most games do offer a way to upgrade to the digital collectors edition, that's been standard for a while now.. as people have pointed out though, that's not going to give the any race/any faction perk the OP seems to be looking for. It will give the OP access to the Imperial race, and allow that race specifically to pick a faction, as it doesn't belong to any of the three by default.. and the OP would get a basic horse for 1g, CE treasure maps and the Rings of Mara, but that's it. So far, ZoS is not allowing people to buy the perk we were given for pre-ordering specifically.
