Why do we have 4 eso.exe running?

So, I have been monitoring my latency lately through Resource Monitor and noticed that there is 4 eso.exe running.

2 of these are attached to a remote IP address and the other two are IPv4 loopbacks.

The two that have an assigned IP address are both sucking up my bandwidth and reporting different values for each one.

Other executable I have ran and tested only have the one .exe running for the application with the one amount of bandwidth being used.

Secondly, my network activity is spiking above 100kbps due to the two .exe files eating my bandwidth.

When I show all the applications and processes using the network the only applications are these 4 eso.exe, which is right because that's all I have running. My point here is, nothing else is sucking my juice.

Can some other people go to Task Manager > Performance > Resource Monitor > Network > Check eso.exe box and see how many processes you have using your network activity please.

Sorry, I looked at wrong spot. Editing post for this:

Have 3 running and they're using almost nothing.

idk. Maybe an bug 4 and 1 each core needed for the complete efficiency? Are you having an quad core?

Yeah I use a quad core, however, I am not showing CPU usage here, these are TCP connections.

Even if they shared CPU cores, it wouldn't be reporting different Latency (ms) values for each .exe.

So for example, the 2 .exe with a IP address are pulling between 260 - 350ms, each.

The IPv4 loopbacks do nothing, however, at least we know that the game does not yet utilize IPv6.

Maybe you're misreading the Ressource Monitor ? I see one running process which has four TCP connections, and indeed two of them are to loopback addresses.

To me it seems ESO is using very little bandwidth, a couple dozen kbps at most. Even 100 kbps isn't very much; If you have, say, a 10 Mbps internet connection, which isn't very fast in this day and age, that's only 1% of the available bandwidth.

While I agree with you, something just doesn't seem right.

I am having lag during combat mainly, rest of the game is a non issue in terms of zoning, loading, dialogue, banking, selling, interaction with objects and clickables.

Could be the zone I am in maybe, I dunno.

Very hard to test such an isolated issue when it is just combat, however, combat is where majority of the bandwidth is used.

Oh and let me just say, majority of Australians are lucky to get a 10 Mbps connections, but that is another issue.

It's not four separate instances of eso.exe. It's one eso.exe running multiple connections. I don't think it's at all unusual for an online game to be running multiple connections. I'm playing Planetside 2 right now (it's up on my other monitor) and it's running 4 connections according to resource monitor.

    Generally I see eso process opening two connections when connecting to the game server (via Mac assume the same on PC), both over TCP. The game server is;

ESO game server ip is 198.20.200.x where x is less than 256

Which I assume is the game server and the social/ bank data server.

The Launcher opens a number of connections which are identified as Zenimax process for the login server, patch server and also http for the browser stuff on the window.

On thing is I don't see any UDP traffic despite the Support page noting both TCP & UDP needing to be open.

I have tried to ping test those two IP addresses, and every time it times out during every request which results in 100% packet loss.

So I am not sure if they are the game servers.

Because...they didn't bother using a good client...instead they followed in the steps of SWTOR and used the hilariously buggy and unstable "HERO" engine. SWTOR used the Beta version and these so called "Devs" used the regular version. It has a history of running on top of itself in multiples. Makes it run insanely high CPU and memory usage. All the clients to run on and they chose the worst of the bunch. YAY!

I was wondering the same thing if it was running on top of itself....could be a lot of peoples issues.
