I am not reporting spammers anymore

I'm just gonna throw out a little something I've experienced from other MMOs as I for one am fine with the reporting system. Another game that I played did allow for simple click to report a player, but that ended up getting abused as people were reporting other players for no reason at all, other than maybe to pick on them or they were a bit butt hurt on something. Having players be more involved in the reporting process can further assist game developers in knowing exactly what is going on as it can take time to go through game files to bring up that exact moment to see what could have happened based on vague details. On top of that, having more steps in a reporting system will help to deter people using it as a trolling method and bogging down ticket lines.

As far as the devs being the ones that should watch the spammers, consider this for a moment: look at when you're in game, just how many spammers and bots you may see throughout your day. If you were to put devs in charge of watching for those players, you would indeed have to have someone dedicated to just that. This is a problem for all MMOs and the sheer number of these programs (bots and spammers) would take far too much man power than it's really worth for a company to babysit. Honestly, this is also the fastest I've seen gold spammers come in full force to a new MMO as well.

What I weigh in my mind is this: would I rather the devs dedicate their own work force into having to babysit players, or actively trying to handle the tickets coming in and fixing game issues. I for one would rather have more people handling the bugs and tickets than having a few dedicated to babysitting the players and other tickets taking longer to be handled because of it.

Just a bit of thought from my own experiences. Take or leave what you like from it.

It's up to ZOS to keep us informed and tell us why we should continue reporting and suffer lots of spam mails from them that mean sweet FA. What are the results on board? Like how many bans they have done? Any websites blocked or taken down? Constant news blackout from ZOS.

    Meh.

They want spam reports. If you know for certain, beyond all doubt, that you are watching a bot, they want that, too.

Aside from that, they just want people playing the game.

Yeah, our morbid interest in the sudden demise of spammers might be interesting to us, it really is their business and not ours.

Report spam as you feel like it. If you don't feel like it, don't report it. I certainly have no interest in reporting every gold spammer. None of us should make a career out of it.

I find that staying out of Zone solves a lot of spam problems. Besides, the people in Zone are not all that interesting. Uh, present company excluded, of course.

I agree with you almost entirely. How ever just because people ignore some one doesn't mean they're a spammer and muting some one over some thing like this would be a joke at best.

I ONLY /report for TOS infraction, not just because I'm 'annoyed'.

GMs who insta-ban would make spamming no longer worth it. This would cut down on the number of spammers, because there would be little to be gained from managing to yell out the name of a gold-selling site exactly once.

    It exactly would, yes.

Which is why Zenimax won't do it. It makes sense.

That's why it would only mute people when say 10 people have reported them/ignore them in a hour or something like that. And if you falsely report someone, you get muted instead.

LadyChaos - i'm going to take a guess that either you play on off hours, or you play in a higher level zone/less busy zone. I easily ignored at least 8 people in about an hour today in Davon's Watch (the first city for Pact players)

ISOS_Duke - Dev's would not monitor spam. That would be for someone in support. And it's not like they would have to sit and watch the chat scrolling by 24/7 - they just have to see a spike in reports. If say the same person gets reported/ignored by 10 people within 10 minutes, pretty good chance that person's a spammer/bot and the support person can look into it and ban them.

This company is very quickly making me think that they don't listen to their fan-base... sigh.

merk: That's typically how reporting features work. Based upon my understanding of previous posts, it seemed to be that others wanted someone watching the chat and handling spammers without people having to report them.

Sparrowfox: I wouldn't go so far to say that they don't listen to their fan-base this early on in a launch. The game hasn't been out a month so there are still many bugs for them to tackle. It could be a situation (such as with Diablo 3 or even FFXIV) where they weren't expecting the number of people to log in or they were not expecting certain issues to pop up. I think (and hope) that when these issues start getting fixed, we will be hearing more from them.

Oh - i dont know if someone wanted someone to monitor the chat in real time as it happens, but that doesn't seem practical given the number of zones/instances there are. Someone monitoring spam reports in real time and handling them though, that would be a good thing and something i think is do-able. Maybe not 24/7 but at least during peak times when the bots are likely to be most active. or do the bots do their thing even when there's not many people on?

From what I've seen in other MMOs, such as World of Warcraft, bots are on all times of the day. Depending on what server I was on and who I was playing with, I could be logged on at 2 am my time (very rare) and you would still find gold spammers. It's not difficult to program a bot to remain active in-game to allow them to continuously post in chat so I would presume that one could rotate bots and programs so that they didn't have one character on all the time to make it too obvious.

I agree, it should be a right click feature in the chat and should attach a copy of the chat log not a screen shot.

Also, I agree the e-mails that basically say, "Thanks for reporting this but we aren't going to tell you anything else, Good Day." need to stop, they are just a waste.
What is written above are my honest opinions. If you agree then; "Great!" If you disagree; "Great!" I really couldn't care less either way.

...Oh ye of little faith....I must now double my efforts to report these fools as ye shirk your rightful duties!

I know i'd rather be playing and enjoying the game instead of stopping to mouse over 1095909 bots to report.
    Oh wait Wildstar.
