crafting hirelings not doing what they're sposed to do

david.kinnaneb14_ESO
by description of the skill, they're sposed to deliver once per day at rank 1 and 2 of the skill, twice per day at rank 3.

Well this isn't exactly accurate. They'll only deliver if you are online. if not, they wont deliver until the next time you are online and then the clock starts at that point. So if im offline for a week, when i get back, instead of seeing 7 deliveries in my mail box like i would expect, i only get one and my next delivery wont be until 24 hours later, again only if i'm online to get it.

The way this is currently functioning makes this rank 3 of the skill nearly worthless. I have a career, a life, etc, so playing eso 24/7 to get the deliveries im sposed to get isn't an option and makes rank 3 of the skill pointless. guildies send me mail when i'm offline and so do gold spammers, so i know the deliveries can be sent while i'm offline as well.

please fix this thing

Yeah I don't like the requirement to have to check-in before getting mail from them either.

I wouldn't care so much if HMRC worked that way. :)

    Working as intended I'm afraid.
They don't want you setting up a character then just leaving it to accrue wealth. You gotta work for it.

because you have to log out to get it sent to you after you hit the 12 mark allowing the next clock to begin. You'd need an addon for it

What I also hate is if I have a hireling for woodworking I can end up with blacksmithing mats. My blacksmith might end up getting for provisions or woodworking mats.

Logging in and logging out isn't exactly what you'd call "working for it" though.

If they don't want things to be abused, they should stop putting them in the bloody game.

Designers these days, are they getting younger? Because my 6-year old niece would love to work on an MMO.

As the above poster said, Working as Intended. Imagine how easy it would be to set up 8 characters as robots. Would be abused to the N'th degree!

Huh? My blacksmith hireling has never brought me anything but Blacksmithing materials... are you seeing different behavior??

Again, you can do this - all the crafting nuts in my guild do it! But why should people who can't log in every day suffer? We paid the same for the game, we pay the same subscription (decision pending) - there shouldn't be haves and have-nots.

Its a good thing that they don't want us to get infinite free crafting mats. Being able to log off for a year and then log in with a like 12 yellows would be far worse than people making millions off of duped mats and having entire banks full of legendary mats.

Yes. It's just so hard to find good workers these days *sigh*

(though I think it is supposed to work that way so you can't just use it on all your alts, leave them alone, then log in every month, and get a million iron ores)

Good to know I'm not crazy. My cloth delivery bag popped out some ore and I was like o.O

Hopefully it gets tweaked a bit the materials are appropriate to the bag.
    Still alive.
  • david.kinnaneb14_ESO
the hirelings don't exactly give you a lot of mats. I can refine ore for tempering alloys, grain solvents, etc and get more of them per day than i get out of the hireling. The point is, ZOS said "they deliver even when you are off line" and that is incorrect, the skill says once per day/twice per day, that is incorrect. Either the skill description needs to be changed or the skill needs to be changed to function the way its described.

This is the skill description everyone can read, even without skill points invested:
A x hireling will send you y and possibly other items every day.

Expectations from reading: once every 24 hours, at a specific point in time, a mail will get automatically generated, regardless whether you were logged in at least once during that period, are currently logged in or out, or have been offline in the past 24 or more hours. That specific point of creation could be a fixed time for all (e.g. in the off-hours at 3 a.m.), or the time of day you first spend your skill point.

The description doesn't say that you have to meet certain criteria in order to receive that mail, or if there are any, what they are.

This is another case where I simply assume that the system is either half-baked (incomplete descriptions) or bugged (sometimes no daily mail on each day).

If they wouldn't have wanted for players to gain any amount of crafting materials without working for it, they shouldn't have implemented the system in the first place. That people would eventually use all of their alts to gain more mats should have been crystal-clear after thinking five minutes about it, in my opinion.

It's all a matter or marketing schemes. They want to make sure that people log-in every day so that once gaming companies check how popular their games have been or other companies do that. The game seems more active and more popular than it truly would be.

Yes, yes, conspiracy and whatnot but that could be one reason. The other being the fact that people have to work for their income and in a long turn, think about your mailbox after 3 months of away time.

I still hate it though and it is not like the last problem I mentioned could not be worked around easily but that is something noteworthy still.

Weird stuff happens if you open the bag with a char that doesn't have the appropriate hireling skill, even though email is shared.

I tend to log in and get them all at once. I have to remember to only open the ones that belong to the char I'm logged in on... and to delete all my gold spam mails. :disappointed_relieved:

I didn't make the rules. In my opinion, the whole crafting system is broken. It is pretty much worthless until maybe max level and then there wont be much money to be made. The Hirelings are a very bad idea because it will further lessen the benefits of being a max level crafter. If they had added the Hirelings only after reaching VR or by maxing out Blacksmithing and so on then maybe they would be ok but as it stands, anyone can use them which is just broken!

to be fair the hirelings don't give a lot of materials. maybe 3 or 4 ores, some trait and racial gems and if you're really lucky a purple or gold improvement mat. Again, you can refine materials to get way more than the hirelings will provide. its not like the hirelings are dumping enough things to craft a single piece of white gear, let alone artifact or legendary quality. as far as i'm concerned, its all "extras" for me. regardless though, it needs to be fixed or the description needs to be changed.

I have had my blacksmith character get my clothing and enchanting characters items. Seems to happen if I log in to one character then quickly log out and into another.

Example..I logged into my Clothing and enchanter toon just long enough to put stuff in the bank I wanted my blacksmith toon to deconstruct. Logged out and logged into my Blacksmith/woodworking toon and got two emails.

Both were hireling materials mail for the clothing toon. I opened the clothing and went "huh? he isn't supposed to get clothing mats" then went to open the enchanting email and it was gone....

I don't have to imagine how easy it is as I already have all 8 characters with all 3 professions with hirelings. Not exactly difficult, Create alt. ALready level 3 so just decon a few items and put skill point into hireling.

All you have to do is to login to each of the alts once a day. Hardly a great task when I have to do that anyhow to play inventory swop.
Yeah, I got a PC. I just don't feel the need to post it's specifications for an ego boost.

Whats the difference if I log in twice a day just long enough to get my mats on all 8 toons vs. it delivering automatically. I understand the devs wanting to limit farming of mats, but at the same time a lot of people have real lives outside of the game and shouldn't be penalized for not being able to log in to all toons 2 - 3X a day. Bad mechanic IMHO.

My opinion either have the items deliver to my characters "AS advertised" or refund my skill points spent at no charge, and I will put them to better use.

Each of my characters open their own attachments. But my blacksmith will still get woodworking attachment. For the most part they do receive the proper attachment but there is times when they don't.

I just log in each alt every day, open mailbox, log out then repeat till all are done. Then log on main and collect 30 hireling chests.

There should be no reason why it cant deliver when offline.
  • LimeCupcake
Hirelings aren't worth the point. Even when they deliver everyday, which is never, they only bring like 3 ore. It would be better if they brought at least 10 of something.

I would like a few changes to Hirelings. I am ok with having to log into the character though to receive the mail.

    1. Make the delivery a set time. Lets say every day at 8:00 am the mail gets delivered.
    2. As long as the character logs in sometime before the next 8:00 am then he will receive the next days mail.
