Launcher Is Often Missing the Play Button

After the last patch, things have gone downhill with my launcher (which was working just fine before it).

80% of the time I load my launcher, the play button is missing. I mean, completely missing. The 'repair' button isn't there either. It's not greyed out, it's just not there.

I generally have to reload the launcher 5-6 times to get the button to appear. Sometimes even that does not work, and I have to restart my laptop and try again.

Eventually the play/repair button re-appears, after which I have to do a repair before I can even attempt to re-enter the game.

This entire process can take me anywhere from 20-40 minutes, just to get in the game.

What exactly is going on here and is there a fix planned for this?

Have you tried running the game as Administrator to see if that helps with this issue? If not, try right-clicking the icon for the ESO launcher and selecting the "Run as administrator" option. If that doesn't help, please let us know so we can troubleshoot this with you further.

I'm having the same issue. It was working fine last night , but now the play button is missing. It still shows for the test server.

I too have begun having this issue. The launcher was working well last night and for the past several nights since launch.

Today I ran it and no Start Button. Wait a few minutes and I get the Patch Manifest Error. Dismiss the Error and still no Start or Repair button.

I'm Playing on PC using Windows 8.1.

Update

The option to repair is also missing from the drop down, but check for updates is there. I will try this and see what happens.

2nd update , after check update was done , play was replaced with repair ( which I will do next) . I also ran a repair on the test server just in case.

Running as administrator .... waiting......

No play button......

No patch / warning notification.

Now I got the patch warning (same as in message 4) but the link to download the repair timed out.

Now finally I see a repair option on my screen and am trying that.

Now it says it cant download the repair.....

Trying again to download the repair from the launcher....

(meanwhile my husband who is already playing the game on his computer has been watching all this with interest as he sits though about 8 min of loading screen within the game).

My launcher then goes back to 'repairing' but once again no blue is filling the download bar....

Once again I get the same link to this page:

First link says:

"Players can try downloading the file at this link using their web browser:"

I click on that link..... nothing .... nothing.... nothing.... eventually "problem loading page"

Meanwhile another 'error' mini screen and this time no choices of repair or close. So I close the whole thing down and try again.

(Yes, have already restarted the computer twice).

Meanwhile even as actual game play is not possible, the advertising is still cycling.

3rd update

After the repair on the test server was done , I relaunched the launcher and the play button returned to both . I am back in business

I was booted out of the game and kept getting errors 210 (patch manifest error) or 201 (login error). Play button was missing from launcher; launched directly and still received the same errors. Repair option was missing...


Now I have the Play button on the launcher and logging in seems to be working.

Same issue here. I minimized it and brought it back up - seemed to fix it for me. Hopefully it fixes some other people's as well.

Yeah, this is a new bug to me too. I haven't had any patches between now (time of the glitch) and the last few times I've played, and no Repair done. However, the button does show up, after a wait.

It's not my internet.
It's not my access (everything runs as Administrator)
It's not my PC being bogged down.

But I do get random crashes while playing the game, since the 2.1.8 patch. Just like most people.


But.. Every little bug is another piece of straw on this camel's back. I want this game to work, but the more the bugs pile up, the less fun it is. All the bugs and glitches were the reason I took a 6+ month sabbatical. Please Z, don't let it get that bad again.

I started getting this bug last night. I found that bypassing the launcher and going directly to the client works.

in addition to this i no longer see the "repair" option available.

After the last update I noticed that the "Play" button does not appear until after the "Ads" for DLC, Crown store, etc... run through on there own one time.

I think that's just coincidence. It's like it takes a long time to load each individual part of the launcher, and the play button & repair/check for updates options are the last to load.

But, if it's not coincidence and this is their way of making us stare at the ADs for longer times, then that's a BS tactic. I can understand it on non-sub account (which I am of), but not blanket-all users. And if they are using this BS tactic I would be much less pissy about it if they just came out and said, "Well this is for you people who don't pay a sub, deal with it or pay up scrub," rather than be silent about it.

Play button appears and vanishes randomly for me. Sometimes I can start the game normally and then when I quit the game I see the launcher's play button has vanished. And sometimes the error message appears.

This only started happening after the PTS update for me. And funnily enough, the play button for PTS is always there, its the US play button that vanishes. EU seems to be normal also when I switch.

I think updating or repairing would do nothing and if it seems to be fixed it would be a coincidence since it seems to be a server broadcast issue rather than a launcher issue.

I am having this issue too. But like the post just below yours says. It appears to return after all of the Advertising slideshow has run through at least once.

Is this on purpose? It does not happen on the PTS server. It always has the repair tool, though the play button seemed slow to appear but not as long as on the Live server. Repair button was the last thing to reappear after the crownstore advertising.

Bump. Having this issue for a while now. Takes forever for the launcher to load and then i have to wait for the play button to load as well.


Everything is updated, Playing with both launcher and game as admin.

oh hey Snu, having the same problem, found the same thread. The button eventually appears but it takes about as long as a loading screen to appear, so about 3-4 minutes.

Had this for the first time after Monday maintenance. As suggested above, Play button appeared own it's on after a few minutes. So now we have loading screen issues before we get loading screens....yeah.

FYI, I only use the Launcher for patches. Normally, I start the game from a shortcut, since the Launcher does use resources. For those of you having issue with Play button, you might consider this if it's not your normal practice.

I too am having this issue. How will ZOS recoup my lost game time, since they are still taking my money for my subscription? Fix it pls.
