I do not want them ....period. Can you just imagine seeing thousands of name plates on your screen? and when you are in pvp hiding behind a rock hidden from the enemy your name plate showing them where you are at? a big resounding No thanks. Would definitely break the immersion of game-play.

option for nameplates not fixed - my other broader issue is that I cant see which guilds are really active in my timezone since no way to show that / 5 guilds per person ....

LoL out of 153 votes 90 want name plates and that makes it a majority of the player base of about 200K.

You think they will change anything from a majority of a pole (of 153) that has no chance of ever being taken seriously.

Welcome to how forum polls work, unless the game company decide to make ingame poll , that is how you get a general idea.

Ofc , people in winning the pool consider the result valid and the people against it say the pool is too small , this happens in every single poll.

In the end , i do hope the devs wake up to this , this may be a ES game , but it is also a MMO , if they keep features out just because it is a ES game , they better be sure having only the ES people will be enough to keep this game going.

And hell , i have being playing ES games from morrowind up to now , and i still miss this feature .I dont form parties with random people outside dungeons , end of story , i wont change this because of this game , if i cant tell who is my guildie and who is not while running around , then i will play totally alone while this still interests me.

I feel it gives it a sense of realism to have to ask someone their name. That being said, there needs to be better ways to customize character appearance to make them more recognizable...has anyone else noticed that all npcs look the same?

I vote yes please!! Just give the option to disable also! AND for others maybe an option to be anonymous to others that have it enabled.

nameplate option please. for me, i like to be able to see who someone is as i cross paths with them in the world. but as many have stated there are times where i want to focus on the world itself and not the digital overlays that tend to break immersion.

I personally wouldn't use nameplates or have them enabled, but if they are made optional in the settings, and it's obvious that a lot of players want them, then why the hell shouldn't they be added officially to the game?

People just like to argue for the sake of arguing, and want the whole world to stop because - someone alert the press - players are suggesting an optional feature that would in no way affect their gameplay, simply because they don't like it or wouldn't use it.

Although, I think one of the poll responses should have been: 'I wouldn't mind nameplates, as long as there is an option to turn them off.

It has been said that a majority of players would prefer that Name Plates be shown over the heads of fellow players.

I should state that this is independent of PVE/PVP argument, only to state that we either do or do not want name plates. Please feel free to comment with your reasoning as well as make your decision.

Worst idea ever for this title. The only thing it would do is visually block off much of the world as well as the visual cues that are in place about the spell effects that are on your own characters as well as mobs. In PvP all they would do is more easily point out opposing players on the battle field. I for one think the current system is already overkill. In PvE having name plates on mobs would make this world look horrible beyond compare. There are already systems being worked on to allow players to create and display guild logos on their armor. It's bad enough seeing players with names such as 2k338fh, I pooped my pants, random black guy, or McScrewU, in chat. To see them also floating around the world would be a nightmare. There is absolutely no reason I can't mouse over each mob I see in a pack I'm planning to take out an to take action accordingly. I don't need some system to hold my hand through the entire process, nor should any player who want's to play this game.

What a person defines as fun is often times a difficult thing to nail down. For me personally it is a world that holds some challenge and keeps me on my toes. Your idea of nameplates would massively negate a major feature of this title. It is for the very reason that you have to pay attention to what's happening in the world that makes this title have such a wide appeal. If there is never a chance that a mob might surprise you by popping out from behind a wall where they were out of site, then why have all the various environmental goodies that have been included? If anything I'd like a way to turn off or perhaps require a press to see button option on mouse over names.

I honestly can't see how it is that anyone could possibly fail to see that sizing up the situation based on what you can see in the world is not only a major part of the intended game play, but also a huge step forward in mmo gaming. When a large number of people congregate together I'd like to see a group of people without a blanket of green letters over their heads like some toxic low lying green slimy smog layer. I mean really ick!

    EDIT:

I've read a lot of people advocating for this to simply be a choice of off or on. I can understand how players might feel like that would make it so that everyone was happy. But the situation is not that simple. First off this title is moving from the single player game base to a multi-player platform for the very first time. That means in order to retain the 20 million plus players who bought skyrim you really do need to keep the world looking as close as possible to that experience. Name plates destroy that look and feel.

As soon as it becomes an option all these same players who have advocated for the option will then set in on trying to belittle those who might miss the occasional mob during a pug group. I've seen it happen over and over again in other titles. Every single one of the titles I've played in the mmo genre have included options to not display name plates. Every single one. Why don't more players leave them off? Simple, it means that you could miss important information about the world that can lead to a raid wipe, group wipe, or just a tougher encounter then needed to happen. As it is now those tougher encounters happen from time to time because everyone is in the same boat. You go ahead and try being the guy with out nameplates when they are an option and see how it works out for you! I dare you, pick any title you want where it's an option, WoW, AoC,Rift, SWtoR, etc. Only then will you see how including the so called option, really just makes it mandatory for everyone.

You should put in a choice for a nametag toggle. Otherwise people will think they are being forced in one direction or another.

I am in support of name plates as an option. A toggle option for this would make both sides happy. I also am for a mini map. Being able to control to opacity of these objects, and/or having a key bound to disable and enable the Name plates in the UI would be some great options.

With a toggle to turn on/off at our own descretion. Would be nice ALSO to be able to identify other guild/party members when we cross paths in a zone. As of now it feels like EVERYBODY is a stranger. That being said, Why can we NOT "see" our other party member's little ^ symbol on our rotational compass, or am I missing something? It's REALLY getting irritating when we're in a zone and I have to open up my big map just to locate another party member!

This game does not necessary need nameplates. There is a better solution (imho).
Some guy (i cannot recall his name off the top of my head) made an add-on called RainbowReticle . This add-on improves a behavior of the crosshair. Depends on which target are you aiming at it changes it's color and you have an option to show this highlighted person's name \ guildname. Foes change a crosshair's color to red, neutral - to yellow, guildmates - to green, friends to purple etc.
I think instead of implementing nameplates devs should incorporate this addon into they default UI. This will keep our screen clean while giving us enough information about people around us.

    No one cares about ur poll. Just like the American poeple thinking they have ahad a vote in who the president will be in atleast 50 years we have no had no say lol. No name tags it will lead to aimbotting and tracking addons if the already dont have a cheat for nearest target.;

I cant wait until the nameplate crowd moves on to the next wow clone. This obviously isnt the game for them.

Because that's the only reason anyone would want a nameplate? That's comical.

Yes, a toggle. When I'm in town, I'd like to know who's who, for finding vendors, guild mates, etc.

It's truly sad to see all the people stating adding nameplates will make it a WoW clone. And then tossing in that anyone who wants them should go back to WoW.

If all ESO brings to the table that is different is nameplates then that does not say much to the development team...I personally never played WoW but still want them.

I thought I want the name plate, but after seeing what most people named their character, and some not even have capital letter in front of their name, I have changed my mind. If I want to know their name, I can just point Reticle at them and see their name anyway.
