Was crafting designed by someone who thought they were making a Free-to-play game?

    Goes to show how much of a value those double or triple research slot perks will be.

    Very much so.
    I just got my smith/wood/cloth skills up high enough, to max this one for all 3.
    (I'm a craftoholic).

    So with this, it takes 51 days to research 8 traits on 3 items, for each smith/wood/cloth crafts.
    And it will only take 238 days to completely research everything.
    Unless my math is wrong...

    If it is, then thats really not a bad time sink at all.
    Ofcourse, I've played Eve Online for 4 years, so I've seen even worse time sinks than this.

    At first I was really put off by the timers, but I've actually come to appreciate them. I play with a couple friends that also craft so if I'm looking for a certain item I can turn to them, I'm sure this is exactly how the system was intended to work, this is an mmo after all. This also encourages you to make choices on which traits you need and the ones that can wait. I'm currently not a high level toon but Ive already realized I need to choose the traits that are most relevant to me.

    The crafting system seems based on Specialization, so you have to socialize to find other pieces you need which is expected in a multiplayer game. And I think this is a much better system than allowing someone to master a craft without putting any real effort into it. This system takes effort, in that you actually have to stick with your craft instead of saying 'this is taking too long, it's not worth it'. Which is why the crafters who do end up mastering all the traits will be highly valued.

    As far as the guild stores go Im sure there will be improvements but the biggest issue seems to be the players not the system. So many people have already given up on the idea because its not a standard ah. I personally dont see the huge fuss about the stores, join trading guilds, investigate pricing and learn where to buy and sell. A faction wide AH woudnt make any sense for the game and breaks the whole point of immersion. Though I've never been a big seller/buyer so my opinion may not be as educated as some.

    Another consideration is that a set bonus, at least from I have seen, requires 3 items. There is the question of whether bonuses from the same set stack. So to make 3 pieces you could just focus research on Chest, Legs, and Boots or any other 3.

    I totally agree! It seems like people just dont want to socialize and interact with others.

    My Blacksmithing is level 45 with over 80% of traits unlocked, don't see why you think you need two characters you can research 2 traits at once.

    How is that possible. Even with 2 traits at once. Let's see, there are 7 pieces of armor and around that for weapons (I don't have the game open) but you are doing two at once so let's just say the 7

    1st one is 6 hours, then 12 hours then 2 days. What does it go too after that? Let's just say it stays at 2 days per research time (although I'm pretty sure it gets longer). You say you have 80% of traits unlocked 15 days in? That's not mathematically possible even doing 2 at once.

    The timer itself doesn't bother me. I've played games where it takes a month to research something.

    What bother me is the combination of armorsmithing and weaponsmithing into one craft type. I don't care how dedicated a crafter you are that puts it head and shoulder above all other crafts combined. Twice as many pieces and 2 set of traits to learn. That's just nuts.

    That means to do if effectively I have to level crafting on 2 characters which to me defeats the purpose of having 'all crafts' open to everyone.
    I don't get why this is a problem. If weapons and armor were different it would just take half as long to level each...the end result would be exactly the same.

    And it is not written anywhere that you HAVE to level both anyway. I am pretty much ignoring weapons completely. Just like I am ignoring shields on woodworking.

    6 hours + 12 hours + 1 day + 2 days + 4 days + 8 days + 16 days + 32 days = 64.5 days. That is for 1 item only. If you want to master all traits for a 2 handed sword (only), it'll take 2 months.

    Thats 14 months, bare minimum, to master Blacksmithing even assuming you are completely dedicated to it and pour all your resources into it. What are the chances most people are going to be that dedicated to it?

    Short Answer: Too hard? Don't craft. Please, really, don't. Let someone who actually enjoys the crafting system do it for you, while you enjoy the game itself. We're out there, you just can't see us in a sea of combat-oriented players crafting right next to us.

    1) This is only if you want to unlock all traits for all parts of that armor. You could have 3 traits for every armor piece researched in a few weeks time.

    2) You can research stuff for other professions in parallel. At any given time, I have 2 things researching for tailoring, 2 for armor/weapons/ and one for woodworking. So 5 total, and I am only doing 3 professions.

    I've researched minimum of 3 traits on all leather pieces, working on the 6th for both chest piece, and on bows

    Yep...which is why Master Crafters will still be relevant. But beginners can still be useful as well.
    I've researched minimum of 3 traits on all leather pieces, working on the 6th for both chest piece, and on bows.
    I don't think I have gone beyond 4 traits in any one item yet.

    The crafting is just fine. OP is looking for meaningless crafting done in two days of grinding like every other wow clone mmo.
