Crafting Demographics

With all the polls floating around, I actually was hoping to get something up here that was a little more informative. I'd like to get an idea of what people are doing with crafting.

I'd like to know which crafting skills you're actively working on, and maybe add a comment after you vote, giving a bit of insight as to why you voted that way. Chime in with whether or not you're using your main/alts, or whether or not it's something you actively/passively pursue. And if you're not that interested in crafting, feel free to chime in with why you opted out!

Since no poll is perfect, I also added an answer for anyone not covered by the majority of the polling options.

Hopefully, this might give new players a bit of a heads-up as to what they might enjoy. Some players like to go with what's popular, others like to work on the "fringe" skills. Some want to do it all, and may appreciate any tips that more established players can offer.

Thanks in advance for providing any info.

I'm working on a couple of different skills
Blacksmithing and Woodworking primarily right now, dabbling in Clothing with plans to focus on it once my BS and WW are maxed and traits are all learned.

I'll probably pick up Enchanting at some point and I'll eventually stick some points into Provisioning as well. I have no interest in leveling Alchemy at the moment, but maybe some day if I'm bored and have excess skill points to dump into it.

I'm slowly, but surely, chipping away at all of them. I like crafting, and I'm horrible at combat, so all the different crafting skills give me something to enjoy. I do them on my main, and I haven't had much interest in making an alt (perhaps someday).

I'm working on all of them equally
I am working on all of them across my four characters.
My Altmer (main) is leveling Enchanting.
My Orsimer is leveling Blacksmithing, Woodworking and Clothing (because then I only need one of each motif).
    My Dunmer is leveling Alchemy.
My Bosmer is leveling Provisioning (don't ask her where her meat comes from).

I only pick up runes with my Altmer, food ingredients with my Bosmer and reagents/water with my Dunmer, but every equipment that any of my characters get is sent straight to my Orsimer to be deconstructed or used for trait research.

It will take a while to max them all, but that's my main goal in the game. Everything I do in the game is thinking of my crafting skills. Just in case I didn't make it clear, I really enjoy the crafting in this game, though it could use some minor tweaks (like being able to dye and to preview your gear).
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Primarily I'm working woodworking/cloth/provisioning, but I don't sell any of the mats for other stuff (except enchanting because screw that) and I'm kinda slowly working everything else up too.

Hopefully someday I can poke at enchanting, but with all the complaints about it I'm kinda scared to get my feet wet.

My main is the crafter so she can provide equipment and pots for my more aggressive alts who will each only do enough crafting to get the hirelings and maybe specialise in one craft by destructing the items my main makes.

Provisioning is already maxed, and alchemy is next priority as I use food and pots constantly.

The other skills I am slowly researching as I'm in no rush to level them that quickly at this point.

In other games I've had a lot of crafting alts and its turned into a grind logging in and out and trying to sort who does what - so this time my main will do it all and just use the other skill points for her specialised solo combat pottering about build.

I'm working on all crafting skills except Blacksmithing and Enchanting. I craft all on my main character. Just recently realized that Alchemy is very useful the higher up you get in the game. I've been saved many times by drinking my potions. Doing this all on my main character does kind of have me at a disadvantage for skill points though, since I have to divide it amongst my skills and abilities. But since I don't do Blacksmithing or Enchanting I get quick gold by selling off the materials.

All round Crafter (currently running up to 30 on Woodworking, Clothing, Blacksmith, Running to 25 on Enchanting, and heading to 50 for alchemy) There's more than enough skill points to do the crafts, 2 weapon trees, 3 class skill lines, vamp/WW line, 2 armour trees, fighters/mages guild...... all on 1 char.

(I've yet to miss a skyshard, quest bonus skill point, instance skill point etc which helps a lot)

My character is V3 at the moment with about 160 skill points. She has provisioning&alchemy fully maxed, 3 gear crating professions at level 40+ (there is no point in getting them to 50 now, so I stopped deconstructing items for a while), enchanting is only lvl 22 but it gets all my attention now. I ignore hirelings and keen eye traits (I had keen eye till lvl50, but at that moment I learnt the look of most plants and ore deposits, so after a recent respec I stopped using it and I still collect resources fast), as well as some of the provisioning and alchemy traits which I don't need yet. My skill points now start accumulating because I have no idea what to use them for - crafting is nearly maxed and all desired combat skills are learnt and morphed, passives are unlocked for all skill lines I use.

The Meat Mandate is clear: They must eat everything they kill, including their fallen enemies. So yeah, they do eat people if they killed them for any reason. It is part of the Green Pact.
There are many times in this game that a character have to kill people. My Bosmer follows the Green Pact, so yes, her meat comes mostly from the people she had to kill.

I’m a tailor, mainly because of character customisation thanks to the great motif idea.
Also because you rarely find anything better from loot or quest rewards than what you can make for yourself.
You can also make some nice gold out of it.
It worked in my favour as a good friend of mine went with medium armour whilst I use light, meaning we can use our unused material to make armour for each other to trade & improve our skill faster. I make leather armour for him & he makes light for me.

I have also been steadily working on blacksmithing & woodworking exp but have not put any points unto them; I plan to after I hit max level so that I can properly judge how to use my extra skill points.

The limiter in crafting is inventory space not skill points. I have two characters and trying to cover all professions with them both but I'm spending a hell of a lot of time juggling materials between bank alts. It's turning into a very frustrating mini-game of its own.

I created six characters, the two that are the same class have different fighting skills, to cover all of my crafting desires.

I chose this option so that I could spread out skill points for both crafting upgrades and fighting upgrades.

It does slow me down a bit as I am constantly trying to keep the characters at a more comparable level, but it is by my choice.

I also try to keep all of the crafting materials needed on the correct character. The exception comes when I put crafting items in the bank to have a little extra space for questing.

Some of the crafting items that are shared by Blacksmithing, Tailoring, and Woodworking are the items most often left in the bank.

    Some juggling is required.
