Age of Conan level Fail

With all the complaints and inventory problems they are having I hope they roll the server back, but I'm sure that wouldn't be cool for every one. Besides bank issue's some are reporting stuff in their inventory disappearing. Multiple Explorer packs going out may be linking to the bank issue's it seems. Blah, blah, blah.

God only know what I'll have (or not have) when I can log back in.

One thing is for certain; no more purchasing of bank slots. It's a pain in the butt, but multiple mules are in my future.

What... what does anything have to do with Age of Conan? Although I will point out that many aspects of the game remind me heavily of AoC for some reason.

If you are comparing this launch to the AOC launch, your memory is hazy from the effects of time. I have not seen one person claim their characters vanished only to have customer service finally get back to you by the time you out level the character you lost telling you that can restore the old one but you need to delete the new one first..

AoC was known for having a terrible launch. Actually I'm over dramatizing. For the most part this game has ran really well for me and I've only had one bugged quest so far. The bank issue is killing a lot of people though and some are posting that stuff is missing from their character inventory now as well. Multiple explorer packs being mailed out some how seem to be linked to then bank issue. I have no idea how inner game mail resets the bank, but ... okay. ><

Actually this game is beautiful and AoC was too. This game has a more down to earth sword and sorcery feel; also like AoC. This game isn't as cartoony as most others; also like AoC. So yes there are some comparisons. People losing thousands of gold and items after a week or two of play isn't going to set well with a lot of customers though. Especially if you are a crafter and you lost some hard to replace items.

If you just vendor trash most of your stuff, not crafting and just adventuring then most likely you haven't had much trouble.

AOC launched with only their starter zone being somewhat polished. Other zones didn't even have quests and mobs had no loot tables. We all created alts and ran Tortage over and over..

Oddly I'm one of the few that didn't have epic problems with AoC's launch like many did. I still realize it was horrible though. So many issue's. Server's going down and lag is what I'm used to along with a few other random bugs. I suppose this is the first time I've been aware of a wide spread item wipe at a game launch though. Over all the game is good and doing well, but that's proli relative to how much one has or hasn't lost with the bank issue. No more bank slot purchases for me.

Now that you mention it this does reek of AoC all over again O_o although I have to admit AoC had an awesome tutorial thingo.

    This.

ESO launch and AoC launch aren't even comparable.

Heh, some of us killed mobs for 1XP per kill to level up! Ah AOC, those were some fun times. (I actually did enjoy it)

Anyway. Love Elder Scrolls Online! They put so much thought into details in every single area of game play. This is an amazing game :)

At least the OP admitted to over dramatizing. Nuff said.
  • spyritwind
Thanx for noticing enubis99 :P Actually I think the bank issue is a pretty epic 'Age of Conan' level problem, but it's only one problem and it doesn't effect (affect?) every one equally. For some it's not even an issue. Over all I'm really enjoying the game so far. Once I get my inventory situation straightened out I'll be good to go. In the long run the PVP is what will keep me or not I think.

Hey AOC had there fan boy club to.. Don't you guys remember.

" calm down its just a game, they doing all they can. its new it will get better.. stop crying..ex "

    3 Months later..

" Man I love this game. its like the whole 10 of us have it all to are self's....."

    1 month after

" Dang am I the only one playing . where did every one go"

    2 days later

    "......Crickets........."

Point is. You can have problems with the game that is fine. But if your PR people are sub par. In time the game that you love will be "...crickets..."

Umm AoC didn't have the progression blocking quests or nearly this many server issues. AoC was an amzing launch in comparison.

Only one response: If they fix it, and don't break something else doing so, it's not a problem!

I remember an item in AoC required to progress alchemy called crocodile tears not even existing in game.

@wdadams1965ub17_ESO‌ LOL ... funny. Good point.
@iMarx Yeah I didn't have a lot of personal problems with the AoC launch either, but a lot of people did it seems. Everyone's experience is different. I will admit the starter zone was amazing and the rest of the game was rushed by comparison. Something atrocious was starting to happen tonight though; that's why they killed the server.

That's because AoC didn't have quests past level 20, which is one of the reasons the population plummeted soon after launch, which in turn would cause far less stress on the servers.

It's kinda sad because AoC had huge potential to be truly great IMO. It would have really, really benefited from another six months to a year of development before launching.

AoC had quests past 20, they just wern't voiced over and the world looked like *** post-tortage.

@dbennett707cub18_ESO I never tried alchemy in that game, but that issue sounds familiar.

This actually reminds me more of The Secret World launch. TSW was a lot worse in terms of amount of bugged quests, and TSW's PVP was broken to hell and bach. However that is not what killed TSW. What killed it was the game breaking gameplay issues. TSW would have no working chat for prolonged periods, up to several days sometimes. Same as here, sometimes the game will think that you are not in any guild, and your groups would get disbanded in the middle of the boss fight, or the group would bug out and you couldn't invite or leave. It also had huge issues with its mail system. In fact, some issues in ESO at the moment, are very similar to what we had in TSW at launch. Specifically guild and mail issues, and group interface bugs. Makes me wonder just how many of these issues are caused by simple coding errors, and how many are the result of shortfalls of megaserver architecture - The Secret World also had a similar setup, with one large server instancing dimensions to players.

AoC was an unmitigated disaster, both at launch and weeks that followed. If ESO was down for the rest of the month it would still outclass AoC.
  • spyritwind
@manaek05rwb17_ESO‌ Interesting ... I played TSW briefly and yeah it had multiple buggy quest. I really didn't get in the the dungeon thing or join a guild; I just ran around questing. It was original and many of quest made you think.

    This.

Honestly this has been a decent launch for me, much better than I anticipated.

Maybe I have just low standards when it comes to software dev teams.

AoC failed because or bugs, 0 end game content and no pvp balance (gemcutting) at all while having pvp free for all. I max leveld like 4 characters in AoC before quitting and quit because every time i maxed leveled a character it got nerfed into the ground. ( lol i kinda do miss insta fatality that u could do to full health people in that game)

So far this game is very balanced while having some major bugs it does have end game content and more coming out soon, devs are also actively fixing all the issues and thats why we got maintenance.
I have to give a credit to AD pack of Vampires with VR10 Night Mistress leading them (seriously VR10 10 days after the official release?).

Night Mistress - v12 Former Empress Sorcerer AD
Night Mistress II - v12 Night Blade AD

Yeah but the TSW was a special game. Man what a game . that game grabbed you in its story and did not turn you lose until it was over...was good for one play through. only game I ever played that scared the crap out of me. the old mansion quest line
  • spyritwind
@limeli8‌ Yeah for me I'm glad they took the server down even though it's prime time Sat night. Too many big problems happening. I only leveled two toons to 80 in AoC. I had some fun with it (loved playing my Dark Templar), but it never panned out the way it was planned.

I just enjoyed one shotting everyone with a DW Barb with Circle of Steel and the Guardians Overreach at launch. lewls.

Regardless.. The game was much much bigger and the quests did work. This scripting garbage could have been easily taken care of with a proper beta with focus testing. The small "invite only" beta did not test the system well enough.

Aoc luanch was the worst launch in any major mmo. Funcom's stock dropped, the lead designer was aggresively ousted, and major subcription loss occured within the first month. Eso has not had a launch nearly as bad as AoC. Also AoC lied about the large scale pvp and features while eso has not.

AoC launch was NOT the worst launch by any means, although it was bolloxed up the wazoo.

AO launch? That absolutely the worst.
