Possible workaround for bank reset and missing items ...

I had the dreaded bank reset happen to me tonight.
Logged in with my main char and got 5 new mails which immediately raised a red flag.
Looked at my mail, sure enough, all the explorer pack items had been mailed again.
I was near the bank, so i headed over there and of course the bank is completely empty.


I then immediately logout and log back in with an alt char. To my surprise, the alt char could access the bank just fine.
Since i hadn't bought any upgrade slots yet, i can't say if the bank would have been truncated or not.
I take everything important out right away and then relog with my main char.

And as luck would have it, my main char could now see the bank again as well!

One more thing, when this happened, all my chars also initially lost all traces of the 5 guilds i belong to (one of which i started!) but after about 10min. of in-game play i all the sudden got 5 messages about "you joined xxx guild" and now guilds and bank work for all chars again.

So, if you have lost all your bank items, try to switch to an alt immediately. If you don't have any alts, create a new one and see if the bank comes back.

As always, your mileage may vary ...

I experienced the "bank bug" twice tonight. Both times, I did exactly what OP did, and my bank items were restored.

With first bug tonight, I lost my bank upgrades, but I did not upgraded again.
With the 2nd bug, it was just a temporary bank item loss until I logged off and back in with an alt.

I also experienced the "you joined xxx guild" notifications.

I can confirm that this works for getting your "items" but not the slots or money stored in the bank... so my suggestion is NOT put money in extra slots or coins in the bank...

The initial bank space is so meager, I simply can't play with the default bank space. I'm a crafter. This is simply game-breaking for me.

There is no excuse for this and no excuse for the customer support currently. The game costs $80+ then another $15 a month....make this game worth the money please, because right now I"m considering getting wildstar to play instead.

I agree with you but for now, i found that using multiple alts works OK to spread the load.
All my alts have 80 bag slots and i'm splitting my crafting between 3 characters (one in each faction).

Not really what i had in mind, but at least it keeps me playing and enjoying the game ...

This works, and pretty much everyone is doing it. But it's insane that we should have to.

(I've actually got one character for each craft plus a mule. I'm about to start a second mule. Absurd.)

Makes me think what is the point of having a bank if you can't use it. I got 2 upgrades and lost them to this horrible bug. So now I have 8 chracters I use for storage as otherwise it would be foolish to try to upgrade the bank until it's fixed. This just shows that the amount of space is way too small.

now you have me worried, in PTS I started with 2 sets of everything IE and explorer related. But even with the 2 sets I never lost items or space, well except for all those maps

I have yet to be hit with this, but should it happen, thanks for the advice. Since 2 sets of items in PTS didn't cause the bug, it sounds like it's not from what ever caused it before. I hope ZOS gets this one fixed fast!

It bites. Both accts we have lost their bank upgrades, items and gold.

Without the stored money functionality, how do you transfer gold between alts?

The disappearing bank and the fun customer support convention of marking issues as "solved" before actually fixing your problem is lame.

Just don't want to play anymore.

I lost 30 slots all coins and items as my alts where there for a reason(lack of bank space).So nothing was transferred..Great I have 4 of every ce item but the good stuff was all gone.and bank says upgrade 1000g..Sorry I was one to enjoy the game and didn't even get to level 10 yet( 2 weeks) but I lost it all

Yea goat I got to say I uninstalled the game as it is unfun.Refund may make it alittle less bitter, but I doubt it lol

I just had the bank wipe for a second time when I logged in the only character I have that skipped the tutorial: first time I lost gold, no items.

I was resigned to losing stuff again but noticed this thread and logged in the character I'm currently leveling .. and to my great surprise I can see everything in the bank on this one, just like @SirAndy.

almost 12 hours ago I got a yellow message saying they would put it in to support..Nothing in the way of support on it..And nothing from the 7 day ago complaint either..

so I take it the unaffected people didn't upgrade anything?so whoopee you are where you where and we are whre you are losing aweek or more of progress.It isn't a fix, you just didn't progress to the point of a wipe..

I suffered the bank bug last weekend, and did what @SirAndy described, but pretty much by accident. My original bank slots before the issue were at 79/80, and after were at 59/60 (once I logged on the alt and could see the bank again). I relogged the original character and she could see 59/60 as well and all the extra items were in her inventory so I didn't lose anything but the bank slots.

I too have resorted to moving mats out of the bank to other alts for various skills. I do not want to upgrade the bank until I know this has been fixed. I have about 10 slots to play with where I dump more as I find them and alts pull them out though it makes it a pain to work on certain skills. They really need to fix this before it becomes further unplayable for crafters and others.

@SirAndy thanks for this! I was able to recover all my items - they were strewn across alts, seems like whatever character had bag space got the items. Unfortunately, gold and bank slots are gone, but simple enough to make back.

Best not to use gold or upgrade your bank slots just yet. Keep upgrading your bank, upgrade your horse for more bank storage. Use your bank only as a 'transfer point' for alts.

I had 70/70 used bank slots, i logged on to my main character and it was 0/60 and all the money i put gone also. I logged on another char and it was 60/60, i withdraw all 60 items but still 10 items, upgraded bank 10 slots and all money i put still missing. This happened when i got an email which includes explorer pack items again.

I think its fair, I like the limited space. It forces me to make decisions. I am an Alchy and Enchanter and I still have extra space(80 slot bag at lvl 20). I just use all my mats every time I come into town. I love the fact that you can't just pick up everything.

OP, This was not a bug in your case, just server lag.

Look at the top of any page on the forums here and you will see a yellow box that says "Issues with social systems and chat lag should now be resolved. We are still investigating the issue with missing bank slots."

So they are working on it, even if they haven't gotten to your exact email yet. I think they are currently backlogged with tickets on this issue, plus thousands more on the "social issues" experienced last night. Which was mostly just server lag.

This happened to me last night as well. I had 80 bank slots and now only have 60. I enjoy doing a lot of crafting and it's very difficult to have only 60 bank slots. I filed a ticket and am waiting to hear if ZOS will restore my bank back to 80 slots or boost my in game gold enough to repurchase to lost 20 slots.

I have one bank upgrade (70 slots) but, luckily, have not experienced this bug. I also have never filled my bank past 60, so I wonder if that is what triggers it.

It just happened to me 30 minutes ago. I lost all bought bank slots (down from 90 to 60) and 30 items are gone. I received the 5 mails again and so on... unfortunately I was not aware of this issue until it happened. If they knew they have a problem like this why don't they warn their customers???

Here's what I did when it happened:

1. I put a few items into the bank until it was full at 90/90.
2. Logged off to char selection
3. Logged in with an alt
4. Took a few items out of the bank (bank was still ok at this point)
5. Logged off the alt
6. Logged back in with the first char
7. Upon login I heard the sound for new mail. I saw I had received 5 mails and figured that must be more gold seller spam. So I went to delete it and much to my surprise it was the beta and Imperial Edition mails again.
8. I left the mail in the mail box.
9. I opened my bank and didnt pay attention to its contents
10. I started putting more items into the bank, expecting it be full after maybe 5 more items
11. However I managed to put in all 12 items that I wanted to get off of this char. This made me wonder and I checked the bank contents.
12. Bank was empty except for the few items I had just put inside. Bank space was reduced from 90 to 60.
13. Tried /reloadui. Didnt help
14. Tried log off / log on. Now the bank suddenly had 59/60 items.
15. Contacted customer support.

I expect my bank space to be restored and I expect to be compensated for the loss of items.

I will stay away from the game until this issue is found and resolved. This is a game breaker. Needless to say that my sub will be cancelled if this isnt resolved and I will ask for a refund for the game.

Why are the servers still up with a horrible bug like this?

Agree 100%... 100% this is identical to what happened to me... a WARNING would have been nice I was not aware it was an issue if I was I would not have upgraded or put any items in the bank!!!!

Exactly the same here.
That was the punch i needed after i got no single player endgame at all (was waiting for a friend to catch up with my Vet Rank 3 to play together, thats why i was "working" with the Alt. Subscription chancelled, Rest of the free-month left to see if things are getting better.
I got comprehension for alot of things that can go wrong on a release, but this one, like the heavy exploits, are complete fails in beta.
I don´t wreck my nerves with losing days of playtime, bad enough the "play it your way" is bs after you hit lvl 50.

Cancelled my subscription as well. They have the rest of my "free" game time to resolve the issue.
