Changing Character Appearance

Randy_Randal
Hi,
I'm putting it down here since there isnt really a better category for it.

I would like to know and give a prompt to the creators to introduce an option to change one's character looks. This is down to vanity, yes, but I'm also one of the people who experienced the bug of not being able to zoom onto their character when creating it and now I'm stuck with it.

I'm not saying it should be necessarily handled through one time redo available to players, but maybe we could have content introduced like the face shifter lady from skyrim who for a fee would change our appearance. We can pay money at a shrine to reset stats so why not this?

Food for thought.

I agree, I'm realizing now at level 30 that my Altmer looks utterly stupid in heavy armor( apparently muscular for male altmer equates to skinny) and its quite glaring. I hope that at some point they add an in-game option to reconstruct your character or something. Or(and I hate to list it as an option) allow us to buy a character creation redo in the store for like $10 or something.

I would really like to be able to change my appearance for a nominal in game fee whenever I feel like it.

It really shouldn't cost real life money to change minor things about one's appearance. Class and sex changes, okay but if I want to do my hair or make up, or maybe even a nose job or something, it shouldn't cost too much and it should not cost anything real life, just in game currency.

    No.
People's own fault if they rushed through character creation without taking some time to make all wanted adjustments. Or maybe they rushed to "reserve names"...

The only thing I can see is maybe a barber/tattoo shop to change your hair style/color or body paint.
But definitely a big no to changes like race/sex or any major appearance features.

I can see this being something that is put in later and rightly so, however, right now I think they should deal with the more pressing matters.
What is written above are my honest opinions. If you agree then; "Great!" If you disagree; "Great!" I really couldn't care less either way.

I expect this to happen at some point in the future. Race and sex, kinda doubt it, but definitely hair, accessories and skin color. Probably other physical features as well, such as everything changed by a slider during character creation.

The only question is will it be cash shop. I'm really, really, really hoping that it's not.

I am pretty sure this will end up a store item in that it will cost real money. It is one of the few items I will buy is implemented. Oh and some nice village clothes for appearance slots.

I mapped out my character designs in beta... only mistake I made in creating one of my three characters first day was forgetting the beard on my main... >_<; Oh well. Not too important otherwise.
  • dirstymonkey
yea i would really like that.
maybe like the alters to reset points have one where u pay maybe around 5k gold? sound reasonable? to be able to go into a screen and change your characters looks/gender.. maybe race just like the create character screen at the start of the game.
even as a pay for service i would not mind i would just really love to have the option for change in a game that is loved for how much you can customize your build/play style/character
some people may have rushed or brushed aside the character creation because of how badly they wanted to start playing and now they are stuck with a character they love everything about except how they look in there later game armor not a necessity it would just be really nice to have the option

Also would love to be able to wear a helm and still see hair and beard! Clearly my character folds them under his helm somehow.

Hope this is good news for you guys

As the constantly changing person as I am, I tend to always want to change hairstyles on my characters in-game after a little while to make it match a certain armor, or the likes. So, my question is: will it be possible to change your hairstyle or other appearances (like tattoos) in-game after you have created your character? - Therese Ström

For the initial release of the game, you’ll only be able to select hairstyle and adornment choices in the character creation screen at the beginning of the game. We hope to provide enough options to allow you to create a unique avatar. But we feel the same as you—over time, players want to change their appearance as they develop their characters, so we do have plans to release additional hairstyles, tattoos, adornments, etc. in post-launch content updates.

    i agree.

i also couldnt zoom in on my character at creation.
besides that, it should be an option at least and i can see why race and gender would be restricted.

even roleplayers could use it just to age their character and/or add in an eye patch/scars for their own immersion/character developement.

i dont see micro transaction as a good way to do it tho, since this is pay2play. micro transaction belong in games like Guildwars(1 & 2).
    spending in-game currency makes sense.

also some of the characters i made actually look funny when they run because of leg and hip size ratios. maybe its just my own judgement in flaw there in those proportion choices but it would be nice to fix them so they dont look like bending paper at the pelvic/upper thigh area when running.

also if vanity is such a bad thing then why have so many customizations in the game.

    anyway just my opinion.

I agree. I don't know what happened, but the face I was looking at during creation does not resemble the (homely) face I now see in game.

I'm actually really happy with my zoom-bugged character - but I would appreciate the opportunity to tweak a few of the fine details that I was prevented from seeing properly.

I wrote some of this on another thread, but I wanted to comment here too.

I'm very much hoping they add functionality for a full appearance editor (not race or class), like the one at character creation, either in-game, or from the character selection screen. I want more than just being able to change hairstyle or tattoos. I get so obsessive about how my characters look that I will delete them over some minor thing once it starts bugging me. My first "main" character I deleted because her waist was too skinny. It was more obvious in certain armors, but once I noticed it, it was all I could think about. Right now I'm probably going to delete my level 16 vampire because it bugs me that she has no visible eyebrows now that she has white skin (she has white hair), even though it took me days to level her and probably over an hour just to do the vampire quest when she was level 14. I don't know whether to keep her in the vague hope of something like this coming soon, or just get on with repeating everything with a character I will enjoy more :(

On a related note, I'd love to be able to choose eyebrow colour and hair colour independly of eachother.

I am pretty sure this will get implemented on the near future.

One reason is that this can greatly save ZoS from losing their subsribers.

Looking at your character everyday for a long time tends to bore most players so they implement this option to keep things fresh.

But atm the game is super buggy and they are focusing on that first. At the rate of how they fix things which is 3 bugs every 4hour maint at once a week, im guessing the game will be stable around 3months from now, so you can expect this option to be available by then

Alot more bug fixes in the patch notes for Craglorn. Just wait. Although it by no means covers them all.

I would like to see something like a walking Merchant called The Face Sculptor. It sould be really were and inconsistent so you still need to think when making a charrecter but still have the option of changing it if you can find him/her and have the gold to change. Those who have played Skyrim might remember Galathil from the Dawnguard DLC. So something alike that would be cool. For those who dont know who she is ill leave a link.

You will get that option. In time and definitely for real money. Something like 10 or 20 EUR, since it's a lot of work for them to do.

It always surprises me there are people, who would deny others access to an option, that in no way whatsoever has any effect on them.

i agree with the desire for the option to edit at any time, I suggest the dev's look at StarTrekOnline for an amazing way to deal with/manage appearance, you can buy appearance slots, and you can edit at any time, costing you in game currancy(mind you this is a F2P game, and they are not charging real money for this feature)

its amazing, and honestly, something I think this game could use.

hell, I would even suggest they look at the detail level of the STO editor because, though the editor in this games good, the one in STO smokes it.

I couldnt zoom either so i wasnt able to fully tweak as much as i would have liked.

also, it would be great if you could save your appearance profile as an option for when creating new toons, this would save a lot of time and effort giving me a starting place for minor tweaks.

another thing I would like, other then just more hair/eye color options is options for colored tattoos thats something I would pay in game currency for without a doubt.

could even have vendors that sell tats or make it a crafting line option.....would be kickass.

I do agree however, that if such requires the time of somebody currently working on bug fixes, then it can wait, the games got alot of small/minor bugs that when added up, become quite annoying....i mean nothing like WoW After each patch or most other mmo's at launch.....at least there havent been any total show stoppers i have seen yet :)

I would like an option to change your appearance aswell, a barber perhaps like in WOW or RIFT. I leveled my first Dragon Knight to level 33 but then I just couldnt look at him and started another Dragon Knight which I now really like and I'm level 18.
