I think folk are forgetting that completion of this event is the only way we can get the part 2 of solstice. Content we paid for

On top of that, this is like any other event and golden pursuit ZOS has done in the pass only difference is they're going the Gw2 living world route. We've all gotten mounts and pets from events previouslly

yeah, disgusting horses (which is designed like *** in this game) and useless pets i never ever use, like, what for?

To have fun this event I've took a different approach - do minimum effort daily as fast as possible, not looking at endeavours, logging off to play something fun instead.

I don't mind doing the camps and stuff, but the purple reward boxes are essentially pointless. In most of them, all I get is one piece of overland trash. Not even a treasure item that I can sell to a merchant. As far as rewards go, this momentous event is a huge fail.

Once I finish the golden pursuit, I'll just be doing three dailies for the golden box. If you want me to repeat quests, make it worthwhile.

OTOH, I'm enjoying the story quest, and I like the concept of the three phases and supporting the war effort. The camps are fun as long as there are enough people there. It's great to see so many players around, and I'm curious to see what phases 2 and 3 bring.

But please...ZOS, if you want players to participate beyond doing the minimum for GP or golden boxes, you must do something about your reward system, if not for this event, then for future events. It sucks. I mean, it really, really sucks.

The rewards are more than adequate and correspond well to the amount of effort required to complete the quests. Giving out rewards from event boxes that are hard to obtain in other types of content is a terrible practice that devalues that other content.

I beg to differ, my gold box this morning contained only one item, an Unknown Clothier Writ. It was not adequate.

Well, event items should drop from the golden boxes — styles, fragments, recipes.
The fact that some people don’t get them is bad.

I mean that event boxes, especially regular ones, shouldn’t contain items that are rewards for completing other types of content. Things like motifs from dungeons and trials, recipes from other content, companion gear, materials bought with writ vouchers, and so on. As a result, players simply have no reason to keep running dungeons, trials, gathering resources and play other content. In other words, there’s no point in playing other content outside of events.

I think this is more of a me thing than a problem with this event, but as a player since beta who also has completionist tendencies (meaning I always want to complete my daily/weekly endeavors since they first started, just because they’re there, get all the event tickets from events, do one round of crafting dailies every day, etc), over the years I’ve just gotten into maximizing my efficiency with these types of things and put in the minimum amount of effort to get them done. For example, I could do the daily crafting on multiple characters for a better benefit, but I only do them on one character a day because it satisfies my completionist tendencies. When I try to do them on more than one character in a day I just get so bored I can barely hold my eyes open around the third or fourth character. So this event is the same, I will just do one round of dailies, even though they are repeatable, and feel like I’m done with the event for the day. This will help me have fun with this event and not feel like it’s some sort of dreary drudgery.

It scares me hearing about people having bad luck with drop rates, but that’s not been my experience and I’m starting to wonder if something is more wrong than just bad RNG in those instances. Today I got all the sap I needed for that one quest by just killing four plant creatures in a row. And like yesterday, I got all of the vitrified souls I needed very quickly in Coldharbour.

I will confess that I did the siege camps five times on the first day to get the achievement for doing each of the five different siege camps, but from now on out, it’s just going to be one a day.

You know what’s fun? Spending 20 mins light attacking trolls in Eastmarch in the hopes of getting to drop “creature fat” for a quest when the majority either don’t drop anything or only some gear. If only this had been called out on the PTS… oh wait it was. Three months ago. A shining example that PTS is just for marketing purposes.

... Do they have to be light attacked for the drop? I haven't done any event quests yet but forcing people to LA for drops seems diabolical

you don't have to light attack but using a light attack gives other players a chance to get a hit in.

This event is fun, not sure why people are complaining.

Because it's the cool thing to do now.

This event seems to just be a clone of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj event from world of warcraft.

Oh, that was a totally different thing. I was playing WoW at that time. Back then MMOs were not for casuals, so everything was harder, but also an event like the gates felt epic.

I don't want the hardcore approach of those days. But with ESO, because certain fights are so easy, it all feels like a chore, or a caricature.

In WoW they had several world events which were quite memorable. We could have major cities invaded by large bosses for example, disease debuff so you can become something else, like in the Wrath plague event.

I am sure lots of players would have loved to get a debuff and have some cultists/daedra abilities, and have some chaos in major cities. Or have a PvP campaign Tamriel vs Worms etc. These things could be memorable. Gathering supplies and farming fragments is not. Those tasks are for new players or low levels, to give them something to do. But in ESO you have this: hello champion, saviour of Nirn. Please gather 15 furs and deliver them to X.
Not fun! It's just like any other event, except here we have this magic wall that will open a new map, after a lot of grinding.
