My imperial armor is very....green

I have a feeling this green color is by design.

I've been crafting my Imperial heavy armor since level 4 every 2 levels. I'm also playing Daggerfall Covenant. As I'm sure you remember, early on - my iron armor was reddish/salmon-colored and then darkened as I progressed, to eventually become largely black. But for the most part, the armor was the color of the ore I mined (kinda sorta).

Fast forward to orichalc - the mineral IS green, when mined. At least for me. I was pleasantly surprised that from level 26-30 it was grey in color - looked cool. But I crafted my full set of white armor last night as soon as I hit level 32, and yes - I'm green too. With lots of gold around the edges. Can't stand it, personally, but am not convinced it's a bug.

Color of armor is influenced by 3 factors as far as I understand it:
    * Type of material
    * Level of the armor
    * Quality of the armor - white, green, blue etc.

So, my suspicion is that we'll just have to endure until we out-level the awful green.

There are at least three other variables.

    Crafter's Race
    Crafter's Class
Was the item crafted at a "set" station?

Bretons have a nasty habit of applying green to their gear at certain levels, regardless of the style.

Class varies, but this is why Templar crafted gear will be silver and gold, while Dragon Knight gear will be dark. I think Sorcerers add a blue tone, Dragon Knights add a gunmetal tone, and Nightblades add a black or dark reddish tone, but I can't be sure. You can see these in the character creation menu by selecting the veteran gear, and switching between the classes, though, obviously, it's most apparent when switching between Dragon Knight and Templar.

The crafting stations scattered through the world that produce set items will also recolor elements of the armor. This might override the racial colors, I'm not sure on that.

Orichalcum should be green colored, Dwarven should be more golden and Ebony should be black. If everything is green, then the devs must have messed up on something. And it is rely sad if it was not like this in Beta, because then it is SWTOR and armor all over again.
  • Destabilizator
I tought that it's supposed to be green because ori/dwarven ore is green... ugly nonetheless though.

What color is ori and dwarven ore in-game to you guys? To my eyes they're both identical in color - a very bright green. I don't recall whether they were both green in beta, but now they're both green. Unless that's just my ore-spotting ability (forget what it's called) that's turning them green.

    Playing as an imperial smithy:
I've made iron armour that's green tinted.
I've made steel armour that's been green tinted
I've made steel armour with green tempers that's green tinted
I've made steel armour with blue tempers that's green tinted
I've made steel armour from a world set with both above tempers and they're all green tinted.
I've made orchicalcum armour identical to the above and they've all been green tinted.
I've made dwarven armour that's been green tinted
I've made dwarven armour with green tempers that's green tinted.

The only armour I've had that wasn't green tinted is from drops or quest rewards.

    It is a definite bug/issue.

Yes, I concur, imperial armor is ugly baby puke green. I may somewhat agree when it's green'ish if made from orichalcum (except that it wasn't like this in beta and it shouldn't really be now either, but anyways), but it definitely should NOT be green when made from dwarven iron. I have yet to remember any ES games I've played where dwarven armor was green. Bronze - yes, green - heck no.

Note that this is not with just imperial armor, anything my imperial char crafts from orichalcum or dwarven iron is green until about lvl 40. I don't have any other char with high enough skill yet to test it but I've seen other non-imperials craft their armor at same levels and the colors seemed different. Makes me wonder if this is some silly thing related to imperial characters.

And what about non imperial craft (non green) transformed to imperial style?
    Does it become green ?

Omg guys its by design. My brother is a crafter and Breton, Orc, Altmer and Imperial are all green at levels 32 and 34. From 26-30 they were steel/copper until upgraded.

Its not a glitch. Just a very strange design choice.
  • eric.kb14_ESO
Just an fyi. The green you are seeing in each and every single one of those pictures is 100% NOT a bug. I dont know why you consider it to be a bug in the first place. Use your brain. Not every single ore/metal/ingot is going to be silver/grey. Infact the level 40 ones are gold.....do you intend to complain about that and label this a bug too?

I can't say much about heavy, or higher lvl, I'm currently a Breton sorc at lvl 12, but I have been converting all light armor, both crafted and drops to imperial, especially if I don't like the style, and its never anything but green after!

Leather doesn't seem affected by this. Which is good, because baby-puke green is a really terrible color for armour.

Pretty sure I've seen someone say the colour is an indication of level, ie when you level up past some level it will change colour, and green is for beginners.

So level 46 armour is beginner tier then?

I have not been getting this bug as much as i used to at least, however I have noticed when i craft in imperial style it does indeed come out green sometimes, especially with sorc items, however when i convert to imperial from any other style the colours show up correctly, so tbh I don't have a clue as to what is causing it.

Every heavy armour I've crafted since level 30 has been green in colour, however if I craft out of spidersilk its either silver or red?

I can't seem to figure it out! My solution will be to keep leveling till I no longer have to endure looking like a TMNT!

there need to be armor dyes

at vet rank 4, blue and purple rarity armor is, for most styles, green and gold.

green rarity is a bit more barable, being kinda a blue-black thing, sometime with silver-iron lining.

    Omg guys its by design.
Want to say the same about Med and Lt armor at low levels?

That is not a design element for them to be neon green. You can craft a pair of Imperial gloves and convert another pair to the Imperial style. One will be brown and the other will be bright green.

    Nothing design intentional about that.

    ...omg.

The major problem was/ is that the color is horrible and doesn't make sense that the armor color was green for so long, literary anything from after 25-40 for me was green. It's boring to see/ it's lazy design/ and verify few people liked how it looked. Regardless if it's a bug or not, it still is displeasing in a game where armor is what makes your character look special.

It's not a issue, only the veteran level imperial armor is silver, though by upgrading the quality of your green armor it might change 'slightly'
