What I've never understood is how we can have a Call of Duty or Battlefield game releasing every year but we can't get a new Elder Scrolls game in under 10 years.

Making a FPS and making RPG's are two very different things

No one wants Bethesda to following the Kotic model of regularly crap in a box and charge as much as possible for it.

I'm not saying a yearly release schedule like COD, I'm saying by comparison taking a decade and longer for releases is way too long. You have your audience literally growing out of gaming by the time we get the sequel. ESO is going into it's 11th year and we don't even have a hint of ESO 2 coming.

And I don't believe it's because it takes a decade to make a really good RPG. It's because they're wasting loads of time and money on other pipedream projects like Starfield that end up being a dud.

The same thing is going on right now with Bungie and Destiny. They're about to release their new game Marathon instead of focusing all their efforts on Destiny 3.
Feel the world has changed for the worse, Bethesda of today could not make Skyrim they did starfield.
Bungie could not make Destiny 2 or 3 they make Marathon or an lead balloon,
GTA 6, kind of an wildcard, don't think it match 5 who is of Skyrim's generation.
Also think random GTA players would react way harder to *** like body type 3 and 7 than tes players.

Now warhorse studio could make an worthy TES 6 if you bought them off. Note this might make sense.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

This would be like a dream come true. The game just looks dated for the most part, then there's the animations, effects, and awful combat. Sadly, I think they won't go far with modernizing the game, out of fear of alienating the playebrase, though it would do wonders with attracting new players & player retention, and god knows this game needs it.

It would need a complete rewrite - there’s no money in that

At this point an ESO 2 is more likely

reworking the vanilla/older dlc zones is a good start, but an eventual engine upgrade would be amazing. Though that might need to up the minimum requirements. I'd rather they upgrade ESO rather than make a whole new MMO as I doubt I would want to reinvest time and money in a whole new adventure.

Hopefully never. Oblivion remastered has been shown to be unusable if one does not have a top of the line PC.

I wouldn't like to have to buy a new PC just to run a game.

ESO's working fine and there is no need for any remastering,

I’m sorry to hear that. However, I have had no issues running it. If your PC is struggling, then the console versions are very playable—and the same game you remember.

That would be a dream come true. Wouldn't stop playing ESO. I feel the same enthusiasm even when visiting a relatively new region with slightly better visuals.

the older base dungeons could definitely use streamlining like newer DLC's that progress more automatically keeping the group together and not worrying about missing updates.

There are plenty of us, myself included, playing Oblivion Remastered just fine with medium level rigs.

If they can do it for Oblivion they can do it for ESO too.

Wont happen at all since zos are working on a new MMO and already lowered the effort they put into ESO.
Hence why they refuse to bring crossplay aswell in 2025.

I'm probably weird, but the appearance of elves in TES actually aligns more with the mental image I've always had of them. When I first saw LOTR, I was initially disappointed that the elves were so human looking. Long before I ever played any TES games, I read a series of historical fantasy books by Judith Tarr called "The Hound and the Falcon" (Published in 1985, before TES) It featured a race of elves who lived in hiding among humans. Their features were often described to be sharp, reminiscent of a falcon or an eagle, with slanted, cat-like eyes. This description was actually what shaped my personal view of what an elf should be, because I found it to be so otherworldly and interesting.

Actually, the book cover of the edition I have even resembles Altmer and Bosmer a bit, though the illustrator didn't get the author's description of their eyes quite right:
    JeBHny0.jpeg

I was incredibly pleased when I first logged into ESO and saw the character creator, because my mental image of an elf was basically standing right in front of me. So really, it's impossible for me to see them as anything but beautiful.

OHMYGOSH. I had totally forgotten about those books! I wonder where mine went? Probably to the granddaughter who got all my books a few years back - hard to keep track of what's getting packed up when you have lots of "help"!

Off to amazon - I NEED those books.... hope they're available for kindle....

Thanks @ArchangelIsraphel! May you live long and prosper in your elfhood!

Your take’s off the mark and oversimplifies game dev. Decade-long waits for RPGs like The Elder Scrolls are normal—big games need time for world-building, unlike Call of Duty’s quick cycles. ESO doesn’t need a sequel; it’s a live service game with constant updates keeping players engaged. Claiming fans are “growing out of gaming” lacks evidence. Calling Starfield or Marathon “pipedreams” ignores why studios innovate—new IPs prevent stagnation. Bethesda and Bungie run multiple teams, balancing Elder Scrolls VI, Destiny 2, and new projects. Your argument’s speculative and impatient; quality and longevity trump rushed sequels.

Aaaaaahhhh finally someone else who has heard of Judith Tarr!!! She's such an amazing writer, yet rarely recognized compared to more mainstream authors. Her work is so detailed!

I think you can get the series on kindle- I know one of the follow up books Alamut is on kindle. All of mine are hardcovers so I'm not sure. I recently re-bought the edition in the photo on ebay because I'd totally worn out the spine on the copy I stole borrowed from my mother :D
    Legends never die
    They're written down in eternity
But you'll never see the price it costs
The scars collected all their lives
When everything's lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat
Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream
    Oh, pick yourself up, 'cause
    Legends never die

I do not understand these studios addiction to rolling the dice with an entirely new IP instead of putting the effort into worthy sequels to their existing games that remain popular.

There's a reason Activision keeps releasing another version of Call of Duty every year, it's because it's what their fan base wants to play. ESO's fan base doesn't want a completely different game. They want a newer and better ESO that fixes the old issues.

Zos has already made graphical improvements adding new settings and reworking the new zones.

Personally i'm more interesed in seeing old event items return in a vendor.

The graphic is perfectly fine ESO soesn't need a rework.

Respectfully, the graphics are of course quite dated.

That said, I understand that for some players, part of the appeal lies precisely in the datedness. It becomes comforting, like an old sweater. This is not because it fits well, but because it is familiar even in its worn condition.

You can't just install Oblivion Remastered and pick up where you left off in the original game. You have to treat it as a new game. Do you want that for ESO, or prefer the continuous improvement strategy?

And I prefer to put on a new sweater, rather than have the old one remade, so updating old assets is not needed either.

Don't think that is very relevant, they changed stuff and think few would load an old character even if possible.
The character creator has changed so you probably don't want to

Now for ESO, you have the issue that many people has performance issues today, I say most of that is client side issues outside of Cyrodil unless you live very far from the servers.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
