Slimecraw no longer gives extra crit chance with 1 piece

Slimecraw’s tooltip is now:

(1 item) Add 657 Critical Chance
(2 items) Add 113 Critical Chance
(2 items) Gain Minor Berserk at all times, increasing your damage done by 5%

It’s hard to be too worked up about this one since it never made sense that it was an automatically better 1 piece than everything else, but it would be nice for this stuff to be in the patch notes.

Would have been better to give the rest of the one piece crit bonuses the 109 point increase to critical chance and then given Slimecraw another 219 point increase bonus to the 2 piece.

Wow I really wonder what person in Zos came up with to nerf the 1 pc slimecraw.

Nerf the 1 pc and buff the 2 pc would seem like a more clever thing to do.

This would be fine if they made the 2pc bonus not useless. Give it something like a unique 8% damage buff when you deal critical damage or something rather than just a named buff you already get from a ton of other sources and is worse than just running a different 1pc monster set bonus in your other head/shoulder slot

Reduce Cost jewelry enchants for one - they no longer work with per-second-costs, meaning they're now useless with things like Beam, Ash Cloud, Banner, and Invis.

That's exactly what they did - they moved the extra crit that the one piece had to the two piece.

Still gives +crit, is just not any better than any other 1p monster set that gives +crit.

I thought the change would be pretty much universally loved in this forum given how many times the words 'balance' and 'outlier' crop up.

Another pointless nerf for no reason. I think whoever is in charge of set balance is out to see if they can be the most hated developer of all time. There was no good reason for this anymore than there was to kill Stormfist or change Relequen. It's their game they have the right to change what they want and how but many of the "balance" changes or "fixes" in the last few years just seem spiteful.

I mean it’s a logical nerf. Hard to complain about this one. There wasn’t any good reason that just one monster set had a better one piece than the rest.

I think this may have been to account for some other critical chance increases elsewhere, but Minor Berserk is so easily sourced now that Slimecraw will be pointless to use as a two-piece. The opportunity cost is too great when there are better, but just as easily accessible, options.

Maybe change the minor berserk to something more useful. Major Brutality could be interesting for some builds that can't pre-buff.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Was that a ninja nerf, though? The particular post in the notes thread containing the bit about cost reduction glyphs was last edited at 12:45pm Eastern yesterday, so it was certainly included by then. I remember reading it when I looked through the notes at about 5pm.

Guys this doesn't have to be the case.

I remember when they tried to do the same thing to the monster sets that gave a line of stam and mag for the 1pc (now that I think about it, how much do I want to bet it's the same person trying to make this change ;) ). First thing I did was go on to the forums and explain why that was utterly pointless. And you know what. It worked! It can be the same deal here!

Simply put, the two-piece isn't all that hot these days so people mostly only use it for the 1pc bonus when they really have nothing else better and they want more damage on a crit-oritented build. That's a lot of 'if's in there. Removing this bonus on the 1pc means almost every player in the game is going to insta decon it. Another set, dead and buried.

The only ones that will hang on to it after such a change will those that truly don't know any better, love the look of the helmet, or are just starting out and it's the only thing they've got.

There's a monster set that grants major resolve (mighty chudan) that has 1.2k health bonus on 2 pc. Slimecraw should've never had buffed 1 pc to begin with, but I think they need to buff its 2 pc. 100 bonus crit just seems a bit off when mighty chudan literally has an extra health line.

To be fair, it’s not worthless now, just even. For PvE DDs running it for the one piece, they’ll have no reason to deconstruct it. It’s still tied for best 1-piece, and has no disadvantage/advantage over other 1-piece crit monster sets

Chudan is in almost the same boat as slimecraw I think since it's a common effect, but Chudan does have a Major effect not a minor. Slimecraw would need to receive a major effect, or a rarer minor effect for it to have value as a 2 piece set. Minor Slayer or minor Brutality would be useful for some builds but wouldn't add any additional power creep to organized group play.

They made it so the 1 piece isn't better than any other 1 piece crit set. The 2 piece is still more crit than any other setup.

That said, with multiclassing I'm seeing people at 75-85% crit in the parses shown. I know it's with highland, but still. There's a lot more crit chance available this patch.

Exactly this. There's nothing wrong with having a single item be it's own unique thing. It wasn't overpowered. It wasn't doing anything that stagnated builds. I don't think I've ever once seen someone complain about it. Being what amounts to a 'unique' item is fine, desirable even, in my opinion. I think more 1pc monster bonuses should lean in to this in fact.
