What's Happening With Vengeance?

From the Patch Notes:
Vengeance Campaign
- Added Weapon, Assault, and Support Skill lines. These maintain the same scrutiny to minimize server performance impact, similar to Class Abilities. Some functionality has changed on abilities to maintain this level of attention to server performance impact.

So it looks like Vengeance is getting some more skill lines which I think is great. I didn't see any announcement or indication that Vengeance would be coming back though. Does this mean there's going to be another test or a permanent campaign added? I'd love some more information about this. It could be the most redeeming thing about this patch.

Because the PTS is laying the framework until the next major update, that means ZOS is planning a Vengeance test sometime between now and the release of the Q3 dungeons and world event

We'll probably learn more about it closer to when it happens. Scheduling things like this can be hard, considering players will be busy with new content.

We mentioned in the ESO Direct Post Show that we would be doing a future test and add in some requested items, like Weapon, Assault, and Support Skill lines. So this is setting up some of the ground work for that. We will have official times at a later date.

Thanks Kevin, I missed that announcement.

They’re essentially adding more and more to vengeance until they see where that tipping point is as far as I know

@ZOS_Kevin When will the PTS have Veng turned on - if it does can it be a separate campaign? Unable to test these changes currently

I (and I know a fair number of others agree) would rather play a "broken" Vengeance than even so much as queue up for Gray Host.

Will the test be mandatory, as in will we be able to still play standard Grey Host, or will vengeance be the only option?

I'm of the completely opposite view. I have no interest in helping ZOS eliminate the PvP I log in to play. People just aren't realizing what they're advocating for when promoting a vengeance mode; they're advocating for vengeance to replace what we currently have because ZOS is not going to support two different PvP formats at the same time. They won't.

I think they will. They've supported multiple different rulesets of Cyrodiil simultaneously before, so why would now be any different?

It's the opposite of perfect. People won't stick around for a vengeance mode for any notable period of time because it's just to cookie cutter, limited and boring. It almost completely removes the ability for skilled PvP players to perform better than someone who's never PvP'd before in their lives.

The removal of the current PvP system will result in a mass exodus of players from ESO which will hurt everyone, including those who don't have the background to recognize how bad something like vengeance is for the game and player retention.

Your prediction is based on one iteration of something ZoS says will have many iterations

Yes. I am advocating for live Grey Host to poof gone. What's the issue? I don't want laggy unbalanced snorefest PVP. I want what Vengeance had because it actually worked. I would like if both could exist but I feel no sentimental value towards Grey Host.

Having played since beta and predominantly in Cyro for the VAST majority of that time (sans a couple total years' worth of unsubbing and most recently being stuck with PVE & the occasional dip into Cyro due to the unenjoyable experience Gray Host has become), I have to say:
I know precisely what I'm asking for. I have played every possible aspect of Cyrodiil in this game, from all three factions at one time or another. I played every available minute of my IRL time while Vengeance was up. It is incorrect to assume things.

And stating your predictions as though they are already fact simply because you want to convince others serves no one positively. ZOS has traditionally supported two or more play modes actually: no-cp, no-cp/no-proc, and all the while under 50 existing during all of them... the argument is toothless.

The way I see it, folks like you should actually be advocating to have Vengeance up in between test periods. That would at least show us all whether or not your predictions are correct before it potentially turns into a permanent thing. Seems you and those who agree with you would have MUCH more opportunity to point out the failures, the weaknesses, and make arguments as to why it needs to not go live.

With Vengeance unavailable, it's all conjecture.

And I GOTTA disagree with this, too:

I still fail to understand this feeling some seem to have gotten during Vengeance. It took me a minute to adjust but it was not long at all before I was absolutely outperforming others. People seem to throw around these blanket statements as though they are fact. Stuff like this and "only the bigger number of players win" and "small man groups didn't work".

Yet, I've got videos of us winning 3vX, 5vX, and zerg surfing a defense where 20ish of us pushed at least a sieging side of double our numbers. And the same situation with all of these happened to us, too. I still vividly remember getting absolutely wrecked by a clearly experienced 3man team by Ales when I had probably 10 friendlies around me (10 ppl if I had to guess - we far outnumbered them though).

    My point is:
Vengeance was NOT as bad as so many people like this want to make it sound! I personally believe these are just folks who are scared that they won't enjoy it if they become the bottom tier of super-mega-wicked-meta-builds and have no more newbies to wreck over and over.
