If ESO could turn back time

I don`t know what ESO did to the game but my latency is mostly in the red and very laggy. ESO needs to turn the settings back to about three days ago. I have not had this much trouble from this game in a very long time. Please reverse the course you are currently using.

I wish whoever is maliciously attacking the ESO services would reverse their course and leave the services alone.

@ZOS_Kevin It's too early for an RCA, but what seems to be the issue?

We have determined that it was a malicious network attacks against the ESO service. Our teams are working to keep track of these and adapt with various types of mitigation. There will be additional ping times due to mitigation being active. Just wanted to be clear there.

They could. It would be called "ESO Classic". Blizzard has done it successfully ... in 4 expansions. They even managed to come out with a 2nd version of Classic ... Season of Discovery. AND WOW Hardcore. Yes, players went back to Hogger .. for a 3rd, 4th even 5th time. AND when they automatically upgraded your characters to TBC, some players returned to the classic server. Only to kill Hogger again.

    ESO Classic. Why not?

As has been noted, there are external forces impacting the game's performance and Zenimax is working on it. These malicious attacks change as Zenimax (and other affected companies) adapts to stop them.

But here is what I thought about when I saw the title.

If a company the size of and with the resources ZOS has to work with can't shrug of dDoS attacks then they are far less competent than they'd have us believe. As players we should never, ever, under any circumstances be able to discern whether or not the servers are experiencing a dDoS attack. How many other games have people played where the manufacturer blamed performance issues on dDoS attacks? I can't think of any, ever. dDoS is something a pre-teen can figure out how to do, and a schooled computer engineer can deal with while sleeping. The users of the servers being attacked shouldn't ever see any impact from the attack if things are being managed professionally.

I've seen it plenty. Even with big corpo studios like Blizzard.

They're rare because there will be a lot of protections in place, but people can and do go to extreme lengths to hit even large studios with such types of malicious attacks.

Which is the key point. Such things are usually more complex than a simple "DDoS a pre-teen can figure out how to do", hence also needing more than "A schooled computer engineer can deal with while sleeping".

As was pointed out in a similar thread FFXIV even have a page dedicated to when performance is degraded, and can often be due to bad actors.

So it's not an uncommon problem.

I honestly find it hard to believe something really impactful is being done to fight these malicious attacks. I mean, I used to have a 180~220ms ping with occasional spikes of less than 400. Now, while I still am within the same range, it's not rare for me to have a spike of 700+

However, to stick within the topic before some moderator cast their Thread Lock Ultimate skill (hehe), I'd undo the overland side of One Tamriel in some extent. Necrom did this adding quite powerful enemies roaming the map, but it went too far on World Bosses, making them almost impossible to solo — which sadly is what happens when maps “die” after 1–2 years.

I thought the same thing, and tried to come back with a witty comeback that related the title back to that, but I was rather tired that day and gave up. 🤣

This would not work well. Old ESO had its charm and classes had their own distinct identity, but at the same time it was bugged chore mess. No transmutes, no sticker book, no finder, vet ranks grind, no housing, no trials before craglorn, can't play with friends that are in different alliances. Only pvp was much better back then.

FFXIV, which seems to have a much higher population than ESO, has been struggling a lot with them this year. If you read their forums and Reddit, you'll see even more complaining than we have here.

Bad idea, eso classic? what will you do? FG1 on vet? there are no trials no dlc dungeons.
I do however like that each zone had its own faction and you had to finish the main story and then progress through the other alliance to see different zones, mobs overland were hard and you could easily die to a crocodile if you were under leveled.
They can do something about overland scaling (I think Matt said they are working on it in the end of year letter) I guess will see in April with the yearly reveal.
