Wisteria

While doing Tanlorin quest I noticed that Wisteria might have been a way cooler companion. At least I'm finding Wisteria more appealing than Tanlorin. Her voice acting and accent is much better and she's a really good-looking character. Feels like a missed opportunity here. It would have been great if we could choose between both characters. What do you think?

I find Tanlorin to have the most annoying voice, personality, and one-liners of all the companions so far. As soon as I'm done leveling her for her perk, I'll shelve her.

I don't know much about her personality yet because I just started today. The voice is really likely to become annoying after a while, but for now I even find it funny because it reminds me at times of Awkwafina's voice expression. For me, it's more the look that I don't really like, especially the colorful tattoos and that cyberpunk purple hair that is out of context for my style of play. Then Wisteria caught my attention, which I think is impeccable, the appearance and voice acting. I think she would actually make a really cool companion.

Tanlorin feels very Dragon Age: The Veilguard to me, which isn't my cup of tea stylewise but if they appeal to other folks, that's the point, I suppose. I agree though, this character does seem like she would have been more up my alley.

I can't stand the performance of Tanlorin's VA. Sounds like a kid's cartoon character who's always talking in an abrasive and juvenile tone no matter how serious the situation. One-note, shallow, and endlessly irritating.

Comparatively character looks very good, also after reading about companion's personality, dislikes and looking up clips of performance literally anything would do better.

No, Wisteria would not make a good Companion. Play through Tanlorin's entire questline (all three post-recruitment quests) and you'll discover why.

Ok. Now I'm curious. I only reached the second part. But even if the personality is worse, there's still the whole visual aspect of Wisteria that I like better than Tanlorin. And at this point Tanlorin's voice is starting to annoy me a bit, and I think I already understand why: it sounds a lot like a contemporary rebellious teenager, and out of place for the style of this game.

This is exactly one of my problems with the voice and personality.

It is *way* too forced cheerful and childish.

I agree, she is the worst companion in the game by far. Most annoying voice ever. Took me 3 days to get through her first quest because I can't stand listening to her. Eventually just turned the volume down and listened to music while speed reading through the dialogue. Her voice aside, even the quest is boring.

Have to agree that personality wise Tanlorin is the most annoying companion. But I do like her one-liners and I absolutely love her rapport likes and dislikes. She kinda likes everything I do while questing, making for some easy rapport gaining. So overall she is a good companion for me.

Another thing I dislike about Tanlorin is her haircolor, this severely limits her options of colors to create an outfit with. Tanlorin's special ability(keepsake) is really useless though, maybe have her special ability be that lockpicks can't break anymore or that we won't need lockpicks anymore.

But yeah, Wisteria would never make a good companion. Hyacinth however, would. I like his tinkering. (Does this also foreshadow crossbows for ESO? With the handheld ballista design being mentioned.)

Yeah I played through her questline on PTS and she mostly reminded me of Eveli Sharp-Arrow, with the added ‘bonus’ of whining every time she sets foot in the Mages Guild. 🤮

I just finished the Tanlorin's quest and haven't changed my mind. I still prefer Wisteria, and the lack of options in the story was really a big disappointment. It further reinforces the idea that it would be very interesting if we had to choose between the two. (at the middle of story, obviously not at the end)

Furthermore, Tanlorin's voice and attitude throughout the quest becomes increasingly tiring. It's very forced, ends up sounding like amateur theater. :#

Unfortunately, all the female companions in this game have very childish ways of speaking, which is also why Wisteria would have been an excellent opportunity for us to have an alternative with a more adult voice expression. Wisteria's voice acting is actually very good, unlike Tanlorin's.

For now, Sharp-as-Night remains the best overall and my only choice.

Whereas I find them the least annoying voice, best personality and great one liners. I'll still be shelving them when Im done maxing all skill lines, just like I do with all companions, because their combat AI is useless.

Haven't seen her in game, but I looked up the quest on youtube and noticed she's voiced by Laura Post, which is enough to sell the idea to me, lol. Visual design is decent, she looks like a cool roguish type, not under or overstated, unlike Tanlorin with that purple overload. Pity it didn't happen. I agree with the above posts that we could use a mature companion who isn't just comic relief or/and insane. You'd think an Altmer would have been the obvious choice for such a character, but alas.

Being rather grumpy sometimes I really enjoy the bright and perky even though I do like to grumble.

Eveli is a great character and Ember & Tanlorin too. I have a low gravelly voice (and talk/shout a lot while playing) so these characters serve as a foil to my gruffness.

Tanlorin's quest is not as emotionally deep as my dear Zerith-var's however.

Tanlorin is a little too always-chipper and starts off calling us "friend" practically instantly--otherwise, there are a lot of parts of their personality and backstory that I do like! I like their voice acting (the dialogue writing could use improvements like I mentioned) and I like what they've made of their life as an outcast.

I really like that Tanlorin's complete questline showed their personal growth and showed us more about their backstory, but I think the writing could have taken the character's emotions more seriously so that the upbeat parts were more balanced.

Sometimes I think they want a Companion to have a personality trait, like "upbeat" or "smarty-pants", and cross over the fine line where the voice lines seem one-dimensional or tropey, like with Tanlorin or Azandar.

Honorable mention to Hyacinth and Snapdragon--a tinkerer or retired spy–type of Companion would be really cool. Wisteria is a good supporting character, but doesn't have as strong a personality as a Companion for me. Maybe people like her more conventional looks, but I feel like she's a great quest character who could have even used a bit more backstory.

That's a fair opinion. I said Wisteria wouldn't be a good Companion to swap with Tanlorin because
Wisteria is the main antagonist who is slain in the final boss fight of the questline. She couldn't be a Companion because she is killed off.

I can definitely see how Wisteria could be a desirable Companion if the writers made a new character with that character design. Maybe in the future we'll get a Companion who looks like Wisteria and has a personality reminiscent of hers.
