Unacceptable frame rates and GPU usage.

On ultra, cannot get 60FPS, cannot set the game in actual fullscreen, GPU does not clock up fully and game does not use the GPU enough, frame rates hovering in the 30-45 region, why even have vsync as an option. This isn't acceptable for a 2014 game, if anyone knows of any magical fix to make the game use my full GPU power or set into actual fullscreen let me know.

Simply because your GPU isn't maxed out doesn't mean it's up to the job, I have 60FPS on everything maxed just fine in 2014 on mine.

1: Don't have fraps, nvidia has a thing called shadowplay, i also have dedicated capture devices.. lol
2: Um, a 780 is near top of the line, only bested by Titan 780ti and TITAN Z? Thats besides the point though, everyone on a 780 is having this problem based on another thread I found.

A thing i discovered, lowering the settings makes no difference to the usage, but frame rates increase. I am emulating 1440p resolution right now though, frame rates are exactly the same but usage has gone up. Weird.

What happens if you change the options in nvidia control panel for "Prefer Maximum Performance" instead of Adaptive?

Wait for a driver optimalization from nVidia, if it's a general 780 problem.

Every new game release brings with it some cards that have issues, which are usually picked up pretty quick by driver updates. Beta and development can only do so much, some just only show up when everyone and their dog connects their configuration to your game...

The real magical fix. Disable ESOHead add-on or update to the latest version. If you don't have ESOHead, disable all add-ons and check.

I see you have add-ons from the screenshot. Disable ESOHead or all add-ons if you don't h have that one and check frame rate.

Weird, I have a GTX 780 Ti running at 2560x1600 with maximum settings and i'm hitting 60+ fps (vsync on)

I'm using the latest nvidia beta drivers, and no addons.

I'm running a GTX 660 2 GB and am forced to run the game locked at 30 fps to play with maxed visuals. So yeah, this game seems to be poorly optimized.

550TI with i3 3470 (3.2GHz, stock) and getting 45+ fps with everything turned up full except shadows at medium. game uses 1GB RAM of my 16GB, although it is a 32bit process. Game is running from HDD not my SSD. I am using the older nVidia 334.89 drivers since the latest ones don't play nice with my card.

The game is very well optimised as far as I can literally see.

i can confirm this with my own high- end system, with almost every option on max (view distance default value). getting 40-60 fps whilst running around in cities "mildly" crowded with players, using this system:

- i7 3970X @ 3.5 GHz (stock)
- GTX titan
- rampage extreme IV motherboard
- 500 GB SSD
- -32 GB Ram
- nvidia driver 334.89 (since the newest version caused very choppy physics in elder scroll skyrim, rolling back fixed it)
- nvidea panel itself is on default values, no extra influences.

Nvidia already announced an upcoming driver optimization and sli profile for TESO due out "in April". Additionally when zenimax rolls out the true full screen also promised by them in thier last upcoming features email I'm thinking those will have a huge change on the performance.

I guess it might be worth stating my specs also, just to note that my CPU is running overclocked.. which "usually" helps in CPU intensive games like most mmo's.

I get from 45 to 60+ FPS, Flickers 61-62, with Vsync on. I have Nvidia control panel set for Vsync off and use the games Vsync. With Multiple Display performance Mode on and Prefer maximum performance on.

AMD 8150 OCed to 4.4. 28 - 30 % usage
I have a EVGA GTX780 SC ACX. I use Nvidia surround on 3-27" monitors. Resolution is 5760 x 1080.

MY usage is from 58% to 86%. Depending on how much scenery and players are showing.

Turn off vsync in in-game settings. Activate it and buffering in nvidia properties. Should help some.

I just upgraded from a GTX 580 to a GTX 780 and indeed the performance gain hasn't been overly impressive.
My CPU is an Intel i5-2500K @ 3.30GHz overclocked to 4GHZ

Admittedly it's rather crowded there, and out in the wilds my frame rate will usually stay capped at 60 (Vsync on). Most of the graphical settings I can change don't have much effect on the frame rate. Draw distance seems to be the thing that affects it the most.

Lowering the draw distance to 0 in that crowded place leaves me at around 90 fps. More fps gain than all the other settings combined. GPU usage at these minimum settings is around 35% only, regardless of the draw distance being at 0 or 100.

Could it be that the GPU simply is running at low usage because it has nothing else to do? Could it be that the CPU is causing the bottleneck when there are a lot of objects (players, objects affected by draw distance) on the screen, even though its usage isn't overly high either? Or do I need more than 8GB of memory? Or faster memory?, in order to also enjoy crowded areas at 60 fps with maxed settings?

doubtful memory issues.. plenty of games than run fine on 1600mhz DDR3. CPU and GPU not bottleneck, 16gb ram here and i get *** performance so.. either bad programming and optimisation or bad ram speed. take your choice ( i think its obvious)

You are not going to get 60fps everywhere no matter what.

I am running a GTX-690. Have not checked frame rate but it is not struggling on Ultra settings. If the game also uses a lot of CPU and it is not up to par with the GPU, that can cause a bottleneck.

Also, this game is not yet optimized for SLI as one GPU is doing most all the work. My card is liquid cooled but otherwise not having SLI support makes one GPU run needlessly warm.

Hopefully Nvidia will get a driver out containing ESO support.

I've posted this on other forums. This game is heavily CPU bound. I've got a G19 keyboard with an LCD monitor on it. I can see cpu usage (each core) and clocks and gpu usage and clocks and framerate. I've got a 4770kat4.2ghz and 2-7970's at 1150/1500mhz. I've got graphics cranked.
While I get decent frames, 70+ in most areas, dropping to the 30's in populated areas, I can see that a couple of the cpu cores are pegged at 100% while my gpu usage hangs around 60-80%. This of course is only one of my 7970's being used at this time. When my framerate drops, so does the gpu usage, unlike every other game where the gpu stays pegged at 100%
Looks like exclusive full screen and cross fire is not going to fix this until they optimize the game engine further. It's never graphics complexity that tanks the framerate either, it is when you get around other people.

MMOs by nature are mostly CPU bound. It's not an optimisation problem.

Hmm that's a bit disheartening to read, but at the same time a relief that it's not a fault in my system.
Well, what works for me is lowering the draw distance to 50 or so. It makes the frame rate more acceptable in crowded areas (50+ instead of 40+) though certain objects not getting drawn until you are closer is a bit disappointing of course, especially out in the field.
It might be worth considering lowering the draw distance when you plan to spend time in town and up it again when you are out in the field. If you can be bothered to do so. At least draw distance doesn't require a long loading screen after adjustment, unlike some settings.

I hope they can somehow optimize the game to make crowded areas run smoother, if that's not something that we can throw better hardware at.

I'd bet that is why some are seeing a low utilization. "Full Screen" in ESO is not true full screen so your card can't tell you're in a game. And considering how they've done that there's no telling what else they might have done that limit's the game's performance. Clearly this game could have used more "beta" time... but they pushed it out the door.

I am able to run the game at about 60 fps now after reducing the video settings to high preset + depth of field disabled. Either the ultra preset was too much for my GPU or my GeForce drivers are not quite up to date. I'm running 334.89 WHQL. Hopefully the next driver version will be better than 335.23 WHQL and let me play the game smoothly on ultra.

Macbook Pro(No whining, work computer.), running pretty much everything on max (except when PvPing) and getting between 45-60 fps, I'm ok with that, could lower shadows a bit to get a steady 60 fps, but meh.

I'm not really up to date any more when it comes to gfx cards, but if the 780 has SLI emulation, or 2 cores, maybe the game only uses one? Just speculation.
