What are the new provisioning recipes for?

I'm very happy my crafter can finally provide the world with delicious Colovian Beef Noodle Soup, but ...

Other than triggering my completionist's addiction, do the new recipies actually DO anything? They seem to not be part of master writs, they're not especially strong, they don't have special effects ... am I missing something?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy collecting them, I'm just not sure what for ... :D

It's pretty much the norm - we get new recipes, but they're not anything but "fun filler". I'd like the daily provisioning writs to use the new ones each chapter. Apparently not happ'nin....

This is probably not going to happen because it's restrictive to players, dailies have never required players to get anything beyond what is available in the base game. Every provisioning recipe you need for the daily writ is available from the grocer/brewer; so unless you want to move the recipes there, I don't see this happening.

Master writs using these recipes would be more likely.

True. I'd be happy with the master writs at least.

They've been dropping in the event boxes. I've got a few new blue ones, and I've been playing long enough to say that almost never happens. Safe to assume they're new.

they are for people who are just starting. let's say they pick Gold Road first, then these are the better recipes they'll find first

I have no idea HOW new they are, I haven't been playing for a while - but I rarely ever got any new recipes before and now they're dropping left and right. And I like it ... :D

Thanks for the replies - so I take it there's no hidden "Cooks of Tamriel" minigame or "Collect them all to get your fancy Azura pinup poster" quest I'm missing out on.

I had to double check my addons because of this, but no, my main crafter still has 568/570 recipes learned so no new ones.

And has your addon been updated with the new data?

I think it's just the blue recipes that have always been in the game but drop rarely. My main does know them, but most of the alts do not.

Apparently the recipe mentioned in the OP has been in the game for quite some time at least, as the UESP page about it was last changed 7 years ago. So I'm guessing the same goes for the other rare recipes that are dropping.

OK thanks for the replies. My main learned all the recipes a while back so I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.

My working hypothesis is that it's just for flavor (pun intended).

Except for some recipes from earlier expansions (Orsinium, Clockwork City, and Summerset come to mind), new food/bev recipes are pretty rare things, so the consumables crafts have been pretty stagnant. The gear crafts at least get new motifs, furnishing plans, and style mats with new expansions. But we haven't seen new Alchemy reagents since Dragonhold (I think Dragon Rheum and Dragon Bile were the last ones), no new recipes since Summerset, and no new runes since Imperial City.

I think I'd like to see ZOS do something with Provisioning, though. Maybe have the Provisioning writs accepted in a particular zone require recipes from that zone (they could still be turned in anywhere). The daily writs only ask for green recipes (no points into Recipe Improvement needed), so have the Provisioning writs in Murkmire, for example, ask for Argonian dishes or the ones in Wrothgar ask for Orc dishes or whatever. A player couldn't get a localized writ if they didn't have access to the zone, so it's not like it's a roadblock to base-game-only players.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

At this point new recipes should only be added if they have additional effects like the few unique event recipes for WW, Vamps, and fishing. Maybe add foods that buff other things like harvesting? Foods that add resistances? Pickpocketing buffs? Not a whole lot of creativity going on in Provisioning.

On a side note, what happened to the fabled alchemy rework?

And has your addon been updated with the new data?

If they are using Character Knowledge, then yes, because Character Knowledge does not have a hard-coded list of recipes and furnishing plans and instead it scans the entire in-game item table every major patch so that its list of recipes and furnishing plans will always be up to date, even if its addon author were to be run over by a bus tomorrow.

It's been years since any new provisioning recipes have been added to the game, and the recipe that was mentioned in the first post has been in the game for nearly a decade.

The reason the recipe may seem "new" is because it's a CP 10 recipe, so it's a recipe that the vast majority of players will not encounter through typical gameplay. Some people may spec characters with intermediate provisioning levels to farm recipes at these "rare" levels, but those kinds of people are themselves few in number. One nice thing about recipes from events is that they cover a wide range of levels, so people get drops from levels that they typically would not encounter.

To be fair, I don't even know whether the recipe was one of the "new" ones I recently got, I just randomly chose one I've never cooked myself and that sounded charmingly un-epic ... :D

But the CP10 thing would indeed explain why I never got those "new" recipes. It's been a while since CP where that low.
